Full Journey* Cross Country Class 43 HST Plymouth to Bristol Parkway (19/06/21)

- Welcome to another Railway Journey Video Onboard one of Cross Country's Class 43 HST Set. This Service is the 12:27 starting from Plymouth to Edinburgh, this was filmed as far as Bristol Parkway. The Video includes the set arriving in from Leeds before boarding and departing Plymouth heading North. I wasn't able to film the full journey after Bristol Parkway. But at the end of the video I included the set leaving Birmingham New Street where it continued it's journey North towards Edinburgh. The purpose of this trip was to visit my friends and relativies who live in Birmingham and I thought I take the opportunity to travel up on the Intercity 125 Set. The fare might have been step for the journey to Birmingham, but I didn't want the hassle of changing trains further up the line, so I took this direct service. This Service Called at the following station where I filmed the journey. Totnes, Newton Abbot, Exeter St Davids, Tiverton Parkway, Taunton, Bristol Temple Meads & Bristol Parkway. The Journey travelled up on the Plymouth to Exeter Line from Plymouth to Exeter & then from Exeter the train travelled up on the Exeter to Bristol Lines & then on the Bristol Temple Meads to Bristol Parkway Line. The Powercars & set that was operating the service includes the following below: 43301 + XC02 (41194, 45002, 42374, 42037, 42234, 42371, 44072) + 43357

Great video Ben! The rules are if you ever going past Newton Abbot always always always be on the south side of the train so you get the see wall!

Great video...nothing quite like a HST journey, I have an XC one 1st Class Saturday between Bristol and Exeter 😊👍🏽 43301 failed the day before yesterday (with 43357 working ok) itself a substitute set on the 1E63 15:27 Plymouth-Leeds (it got as far as Bristol TM for 220033 to take over 😧) It ran ECS back to Laira. The same day the incoming 1V50 06:06 Edinburgh-Plymouth saw 43378 shut down and fail at Exeter St Davids, leaving 43366 to run non-stop to Plymouth tackling Dainton & Rattery banks on its own 😟 Tuesday was not a good day for the XC HST’s 😟
Thanks for the comment. Good jolly ride on them. That's the only trouble with XC HST Sets as they don't operate alot of them and when one breaks down, its a bit hard to substitute a spare set to operate with them only based at Laira. Breaking down is all part of the rail these days. Any train however old or new do breakdown.
@@BensPlanesTrainsProductions spot on 😊👍🏽 I have noticed XC power car 43384 has not worked since mid December 2020 🤔 Last I heard it was off for a repaint, but it hasn’t bern seen since? 😧👀 43321 is having a cab repair at LA.. that too has been out for some time. Yes its a shame XC did not have more compliant HST sets and power cars as more South West to North East/Scotland services could be HST operated, giving passengers more space and freeing up the “XC Spam Cans” to double-up on more services where needed.
Yeah hopefully 43384 & 43321 will enter service again soon. To be honest I see where your coming from with taking more HST sets, but it is a fair amount of money to spend refurbishing the train, but also in a few years time the 221's and 222's will be available from when Avanti and East Midlands will operate the Hitachi High Speed on their services, so maybe the current XC Units might get a refurbishment carried out. Not sure whether the HST's will remain operating for them.
@@BensPlanesTrainsProductions inside word from Laira is 43321 is due back in 2 to 3 weeks time and 43384 mid September 😀👍🏽 God forbid yes there will be an abundance of those bloody Voyager/Meridian things in a year or two’s time..spot on 🤮 However, a 222 can not run with a 220/221 and vice versa and the vehicles are not set interchangeable either...so that could be a logistical headache 🤔 221101-221118 will probably come straight to XC when the 805/807 units enter service..I think that will be nailed on, giving XC 18 extra 5 car sets to “double up” on the busier services. I think they will retain the 5 HST’s for the near future as they have spent a fortune on the sets getting them compliant plus 43321 is getting a new cab, 43384 is getting some serious treatment, plus they hired in 43208/43239 as well, I don’t think Arriva/DFT would go to this spend if they were getting rid of them before 2025...but you never know these days 🤣🤔

@@BensPlanesTrainsProductions no I wasn't my bad I was thinking of a different day I was up in Cardiff that day but I must have been around then I went on a castle set and passed an xc hst
I did see plenty of spotters out and about taking pictures and videos along the route. Might have seen you when filming.
