Considering the fact the original voice actor was an american, all the serbian words he spoke are mostly accurate and well-said. Some were a bit harder to understand at first, but it's done pretty good. As a native serbian, while I was playing GTA: 4, I used to laugh everytime I heard Niko swearing or saying anything on serbian whatsoever. Especially when he confronted Darko.

Strange, because I’ve heard other “native Serbs” saying that his Serbian is awful, and that it sounds broken.
@@YaBoiBrendo it's not that bad. He does have some very awfully spoken serbian words, but at least he did say them correctly. The one and only thing that's a major problem is the american accent that is preventing the voice actor from speaking serbian words fluently

Vladimir Mashkov was going to be the original actor for Niko but he rejected the role because he didn't know what it was about and he wasn't interested. I think if Rockstar told him it was for GTA then he might've done it.
I wonder if the pronunciation is good. I remember reading comments saying it sounded all wrong and other comments saying it's very accurate. Even the wiki states that it is mostly wrong, and considering Niko's voice actor is from the USA and doesn't speak Serbian, that makes sense.
No. As a serbian, i can tell you that the pronunciation isn't that good tough...

Well, you can understand it, but it's clearly said by someone who was instructed how to say a specific sentence without knowing the language. Some are almost spot on, while some are way off, overall it's mediocre.

Rockstar used to claim that he was from "that area" which was Yugoslavia. And the story in GTA 4 played loosely on the Yugoslav wars while pretending not to. They really did a good job painting Nico as a runaway war criminal who was betrayed during the line of duty while not jumping onto overtones of the actual wars that happened in Yugoslavia.
Now they are saying "Oh he can be Bulgarian, Romanian, and Russian too". God help me, Rockstar. I guess they have to do anything to sell the game in other regions on this planet too then?
Besides the Russian language sounds like people slurring words like a bunch of drunks far more than any other language out there does. Hence the major differences. Serbian is far too simple when compared...
