    I think you should always try the cheapest one first in your future taste tests. In these times most people will struggle to afford any branded foods which is shown by the sales of cheaper versions.Keep up the good work and help people realise branded food is overpriced.

      Thanks Peter. We agree we should always try cheap first for a few reasons as a follow on from our previous video. When a price difference is of a multiplier rather than a few pence it is always a concern. Thanks for your comments, very much appreciated. We've more comparisons to come.

      Hi Anne, we learnt a lot from the previous video. It's possible the brand item had tickled our taste buds and affected our judgement. This time we made the decision to try the own brand first. We also cleared our taste buds with water in-between. We need to be careful otherwise we might become too professional 😅
      This one worked better and we think it was a more reflective result for anyone watching which is really the purpose of the channel.
      There is more to come, the microwave is going to be busy. Still plenty of recipes to catch up on too.

      Thanks for your comment which is interesting. It is not something we have noticed but usually only having one tin at a time with nothing to compare it would be something that could pass unnoticed. Even looking at the ingredients it might be hard to spot too as the ingredient ratio could be changed over time.

    Generally speaking I stay clear of Heinz products as they're overpriced and not that good. Having said that the beans and sausages Heinz are the only ones with gluten free sausages. So the Heinz b&s is the only Heinz product I'll buy.

    • @ShaneAndLisa
      @ShaneAndLisa  2 года назад

      Thanks for adding this Matt. Do you think this is a factor to influence the price due to cost of ingredients?

    • @Matt19matt19
      @Matt19matt19 2 года назад +1

      @@ShaneAndLisa I think it's a coincidence as making them gluten free is simple and doesnt cost any more it's simply using rice flour as a bulking agent of the sausages instead of wheat. It's a very simple change to make it's just not something most manufacturers think about, I think Heinz have done it by accident. The biggest annoyance is in soup. Wheat is used to presumably thicken soups but you can buy a soup from one brand it's gluten free but then the same type of soup from another brand they whack wheat in it 😂.

    • @ShaneAndLisa
      @ShaneAndLisa  2 года назад

      Thanks for the explanation on this Matt. Nearly all the products we've put in front of the camera we have read flour in the ingredients. This is quite a wide ranging issue then?

    • @Matt19matt19
      @Matt19matt19 2 года назад +1

      @@ShaneAndLisa it's just a case of reading what you're buying. After a while you get used to it and know what to buy and avoid. It is nice though when you can get "normal" products that are gluten free as you don't get charged the free from prices. I just buy the Heinz beans and sausage on offer so I'm usually paying £1 a tin. The worst offenders for wheat being used as a bulking agent is sausages, soups and sauces. I'll find often the extra special, finest etc will be labelled as gluten free because they don't add bulking ingredients to bring the costs down. I've just had the 66p Asda just essentials pizza (it's not me that needs gluten free) actually alright. The amount of cheese is pretty good but I did add some extra mature cheddar for some extra flavour.

    • @ShaneAndLisa
      @ShaneAndLisa  2 года назад

      Thank you for the background, this is certainly something for us to think about. Until we had to start looking at the ingredients quite a few things have been made apparent about the ingredients actually being used in products. It seems there is quite an array of factors; price, food type.

      They were really so close that there was no difference between them. There was a very slight texture difference but not enough to account for an extra £1.28. The cheap ones are a winner 🏆

      @@ShaneAndLisa it’s quite interesting to me that for the same price as a can of Heinz beans and sausages you could buy some decent butchers sausages and a can of decent beans from Aldi or Lidl, mix them together and feed twice as many people. The sausages in Heinz beans and sausages are just as trash as all the 45p versions - they’re just crappy ‘Vienna sausages’ (as the Americans would call them). When I was a kid a tin of Heinz beans and sausages was considered cheap filler when your mum couldn’t be bothered to cook. Now they’re apparently a premium brand 🤣
      I think we attach too much significance to these brands, and it’s largely based on childhood memories and what we used to eat. There should be a difference between a genuinely worthwhile ‘overpriced’ product (using better quality or more expensive ingredients) and one that costs a lot simply because the brand spends a lot on telling you how great they are.
      I sometimes splash out on an expensive ready meal like a lasagne because it’ll have cream, pancetta, red wine, San Marzano tomatoes, PARMIGIANO REGGIANO or whatever in there to make it special, whereas a Tesco budget one will be discernibly worse. Things like Heinz beans are surely just chucking your money down the drain.

    • @ShaneAndLisa
      @ShaneAndLisa  2 года назад

      @PotatoPirate At 1.70 we can agree with you that you're in the price where better purchases could be made particularly if there are two to eat. It is an interesting point you make about childhood memories, perhaps why brands are bought out, the childhood brand image is valuable to be merged into bigger food brands.

      @@ShaneAndLisa they're at least as good. For the price you're paying you'd expect the Heinz sausages to be higher quality. Apparently some of the own brands use sausages that actually taste like sausages rather than little hot dogs - I think Sainsbury's is one of them.

    • @ShaneAndLisa
      @ShaneAndLisa  2 года назад

      At 1.70 expectations are far more than what is delivered in the tin. Thanks for info re Sainsbury's. Added to our list.

  • @anthonymaddaford8474

    To all the people saying Heinz beans aren’t as good as the cheaper alternatives? That’s mostly based on price. I bet if they all tins of beans were the same price 99% would choose Heinz as it’s a superior product.
    Are they worth the huge price point? No. Are they objectively better than the competition? Yes.

    • @ShaneAndLisa
      @ShaneAndLisa  3 месяца назад +1

      Excellent comment and mileage for a fair point. We had given this some thought previous and when we are in front of the camera on a comparison video we said it should be done as a blind test, that way there is no influence on price/looks. Wishing you a great evening, Shane and Lisa xx
