Luckily on the casual matchmaking I´ve noticed that not many people are using shields, not sure if it´s because of lack of awareness of its existent, or if people just hate the current iteration of the block stance. It´s a shame, I can´t enjoy the 2v2 nor the 1v1 ranked of this game anymore. That being said, thank you for explaining the huge problems of the current shield fest problem. Off-topic: Have you seen Combo Devils? The game looks sick, seems like an attempt to mix traditional FG elements to a platform fighter. I think currently it´s not publicly open for testing, but damn, I wish it was. Idk, maybe you like what you see there. Really love your in-depth explanations and opinion, keep it up and take care.
The game has definitely come a long way and I love it and want it to succeed so I'm biased, but you can't help but question many of the decisions the dev team makes. Char balance, half assed mechanics being added namely
bro I know you've ranted, but I also need to vent a little bit about this game and I'm going to use nubia for example So for some stupid reason, nubia is an assassin. Yes a slow moving assassin with terrible frame data... that makes sense pfg. She should've been a bruiser. she's a literal WW clone so using WW to base nubia off of would've been smart She should've had more kill power and damage than wonder woman as well as better neutral with better range but with slightly worse frame data. THAT'S KINDA THE IDEA but again pfg doesn't get it. for some reason they saw nubia and was like "yeah let's make a too honest of a character even though we have samurai jack and agent running around doing only lord knows what" and gave her all sorts of whiff as if she was wielding a battle axe. not to mention for some reason nubia has less kill power than ww, dude she's supposed to have more kill power but easier to be killed. THAT'S THE DIRECTION THEY SHOULD'VE WENT but again this is pfg. Literally in any fighting game where there's a spear or bo character, that character has solid neutral but somehow even a top 150 nubia player like myself keeps getting stuffed by shaggy's jab, I dunno. If I were to make a fighting game right? whether it be a platform fighter 2d or 3d, I would always have a "ryu" type character that every other character measures up to. let me give you some archetypes sword and shield character: a ryu archetype character. with solid defences and mediocre offense and average movement speed. His/her attacks have short range but are not comital. spear archetype: a character with decent damage, mediocre defenses and one of the best neutrals due to mid range dominances but who's frame data makes it difficult to deal with rushdown characters. I mean it's that simple This game is just a hot mess.
you think just like me man. I'm a solo developer using unreal engine 5. and these devs have no idea how to leverage frame data. There's an intersectionality where the beauty of animation and frame data meet and pfg just doesn't get it. These guys can't handle making fighting games, maybe they should focus on something simple like fps games.
They threw away the core fanbase for shields trying to bring in new players.

Yo you did a really good job of explaining what's happening behind the Scenes with shields as far as hitstun hitbox hurtbox.
