Wrestlemania IX was outdoors at Caesar's Palace and they did lean HEAVILY into the Greco-Roman aesthetic.

They did a poor job emphasizing the theme of Wrestlemania IX. Maybe show her a clip of the show or something, like Undertaker’s entrance. I’m sure She would’ve given it a higher rating.

Using the same logo again is a weird criticism to me like, Wrestlemania is a brand, building a consistent identity for it is obviously an important part of recognizability. Star Wars has almost never changed its logo, because it’s the part of the iconography of the brand.
Idk , they already had an established event , so they could change it without losing the essence
@@lithium8083 but Wrestlemania isn’t just an event, it’s a brand that occurs outside the show itself. Merchandising is a big one, the Wrestlemania logo becomes a feature in and of itself, it needs to be immediately recognizable, and a consistent logo is part of that.

I stopped watching when she put XX below 2.
XX is objectively genius. The diamond/emblem design, the texture, the minute arc skew on the word Wrestlemania; it's all cohesive, creative, and unique in comparison to the rest.
Putting it below the copy/paste logo with a "timeless" neon pub 2 sign on the back is an absolute shit take.

That’s exactly what I was looking at because that Wrestlemania 18 logo looked WAY better than that. Continuing with that metal look from 17 she liked.

Something that I noticed is how graphic design ideals have changed over time. Sophie's looking at this through the lens of modern graphic design principles, and I feel that some of the earlier ones may have been rated higher in their own eras.
I agree with 80% of her choices but yea, they should have had someone older be the judge

I don't know if I agree with that. If you look at other logos from the same time period it still makes the Wrestlemania logos look dated.

For WrestleMania 18 & 19 they didn't use the actual real logo but some fan-made version off of pinterest.

I am also a graphic designer and I'm sorry Sophie but some of those takes are baaaaaad, some of the things you put so low are such great logos, I guess its interesting as a graphic designer who is also a wrestling fan, great video guys

You should have Sophie design Wrestlemania logos based on different cities. Eg one for Seattle, Las Vegas, Denver, etc

I like this idea. I haven't looked at her work so I'm interested to see how she tackles the concept. Also, I think the WWE bare logo itself is trash. It's not timeless at all and showed up during the attitude era and it just screams 'remember the 90s, bruh? that was THE BOMB!' Not a fan.
Or she can do it not on video and just present it on video.

As a New Orleanian, I'll take both of ours being B designs.
Fortunately our city does make for easy logo ideas.
Also I'll note the "Saints' Logo" technical name is a Fleur-De-Lis. It's actually a centuries old heraldic symbol, and was heavily associated with France/French Nobility.
New Orleans being founded by the French, we absolutely kept the symbol.
The one at CAESARS PALACE was "GREEK" LOL

I never understood why they promoted WM 25 as the "25th anniversary", it's not… WM 1 was the original event, WM 2 was the 1st anniversary, WM 3 the 2nd, and so on. WM 25 was the 24th anniversary, and WM 26 the 25th.
I've been saying this SINCE that year.
I absolutely bet that was a Vince thing, and no one had the nerve to correct his mistake. I did notice they've not used annniversary in their Wrestlemanias since.

If you’re not a wrestling fan and have no attachment to these logos, and have to go through 40 of them, you’re gonna get sick of them after a while. If the Wrestlemania 2 design was used for a later Wrestlemania, I doubt she would have given it an S tier rating.

Wait...did Dante say Wrestlemania 33 is one of the worst Wrestlemanias in recent history? It has some downsides, but it has a lot of good stuff on it too. I'd put it above 32, 34, 35, and 36 for sure.
I felt the same way when he said that. HHH/Rollins killed it. Hardyz returning. Neville vs Aries was amazing. Brock vs Goldberg was good for what it was. Not to mention Shane vs AJ and Owens vs Jericho....idk why he thinks that.
@@mattg5257 The show ends on a low note with Taker/Reigns underwhelming, the women's match being forgettable, and Wyatt/Orton being a complete mess. Thankfully Brock and Goldberg was a fantastic 4 minute match or else everything after Rollins/Trips would've been bad. It was a poorly laid out card in that respect.

I don't think I've ever actively thought about the Wrestlemania logos and whether or not I liked them, but now that I am, I don't think I like any of them, or at least 90% of them because it's all the same fucking font with the W and M having long tails and boardering the entire thing. Lesnar vs Goldberg for the Universal Championship - even tho it was a fun little match but a world title shouldn't involve two part-timers
Wyatt vs Orton for the WWE championship (Wyatt should have won, Randy had nothing to gain. Wyatt needed his big moment)
The IC title was on the pre-show
The tag titles match alongside Hardy's return was Fantastic!
Undertaker vs Roman was a pretty slow paced match. Undertaker was way out of shape

I'd agree as someone who is a general wrestling fan. Pretty much the only great moment of it was the tag team ladder match. Then again Mania has been really average for some time now. The second half of 33 was god-fucking-awful. A Seth/HHH match that dragged on to long, a 6-woman match for a world title that went, what, four minutes? Women's evolution at work there. Cena and Nikki against Miz and Maryse, oh god, talk about something that should've been on a B PPV undercard at best. Both men's world title matches were terrible, and then the night was capped off by possibly the most depressing main event in Wrestlemania history? I don't blame people for thinking it was legitimately crap. Worth noting at that time, the biggest WWE alternative was New Japan, and their annual Wrestle Kingdom show just happened to be one of the greatest wrestling shows ever.

Logos were themed with the location a lot earlier than they said. Pretty sure the 20th Century Fox looking one was in LA. And WM9 was at Caesar's Palace. That context as they went might have changed some stuff.

I have to speak in defense of the X8 logo. I don’t know where you found that shitty knock-off logo but that is an inaccurate representation. It looks like it was redrawn by a middle schooler.
Fleur-de-lis is the logo on the New Orleans logos(and Saint's helmet)
This is pretty funny. I used to work at WWE and worked on the WM30 logos when they were having the event in New Orleans. I know the designers who worked on a lot of these as well.
Would never hire this girl for a job though lol but everyone has their own takes and opinions of course.

@@Reovio-xx7zj She has terrible taste in my opinion in design philosophy and seemingly has no sense of continuity or consistency. Familiarity is a huge importance in graphic design in my opinion. Simplicity is also very nice--if you can skirt the line of simplicity without going minimalist and keeping style, I'd say you're an excellent designer.
@@DanteLaBrieexactly. it’s an annual event so saying like the first 10 are bad because they’re similar is insane. they’re trying to build a brand and while you’re trying to build a brand you’ve got to keep some form of consistency, continuity and familiarity.

Main issue with WrestleMania 25 is that they branded it as the 25th anniversary of WM when in reality it was the 25th edition of WM. For that reason alone it should be bottom tier.
I don't respect a lot of her creative decisions on these logo placements. Can't do it.

wrestle mania 9 took place at a location called ceasers palace, hence the roman theme on the logo, the last WM events WWE base their logos on location (texas , logo had horns, cali , had a youtube play button etc )
Wrestlemania 9 was in Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas (hence the Roman theme). I feel like that context would've moved it up as it's no a bad logo considering the time and tge logos before it.

I liked 31. It was tied into the WWE Network that had just launched, hence the play button. It represented streaming and new tech. And it took place in Silicon Valley.

The first WM Logos especially 1, 2 and 3 it just fits for that era as a graphic designer myself 😄, let's not talk about the fact that the WWE was in 80s mode in terms of logos and presentation till 1997 the latter being 1998 when ditching the block logo
