8 More Weird Esports That ACTUALLY Exist

- Not every esport is played in massive stadiums for thousands of dollars. Most competitive games are a little smaller. A little less glamorous. A little….stranger. Last year, we told you about the weirdest esports we’d ever heard of. But then, we found some even stranger, more incredible scenes, and we had to tell you about them.
Here are eight more of the weirdest esports that somehow exist.

osu definitely can be a big esport. generally what happens for major tournaments is that songs are selected and then maps are made specifically for the tournament (in standard at least, mania often has well known maps mostly) with a couple of well known maps thrown in as well. Because of this, what could happen is that music companies could license songs or artists to have their songs used and then maps would be made for the tournament. This already does happen somewhat, as featured artists do exist which means that there isn't copyright issues with any of their songs because they are being played in osu.
Biggest tournament yet coming up now will use only featured artist maps in finals afaik.
The format and audience needs improvement. The 4v4 best of 7 is boring for people who aren't invested in the game or the teams/players. Also osu, while many gamers have played it once in their lifetime, there are too little people that are truly dedicated to the game
@@yesman4974 Myon. no. cope harder.

@@yesman4974 it's fine what's the problem? you still have a veto system, even for the tiebreakers in most cases
It's so cool to see the OWC, BTMC and Sotarks on a theScore esports video.

i dont care if it's weird. esports is esports and i just love that i live in this wonderful era where video games has a professional scene. hahahaha.

osu! being an official esport is entirely viable, when we do tournaments we almost always use song that we were given permission to use, like music from featured artists who allow us to use their music.

As a counter blox player I can confirm, it's sometimes worse than csgo as far as sweats go
those kids are demons bro. they run in no util one tap with a deagle wide swinging
As a fellow counter bloc player, I can confirm this statement
Only thing I hate about that’s game is even if your on low ping it feels like your on 200 ping
As someone who plays counter blox, it has more cheaters than csgo.
Frrr
osu! isn't really a weird esports in my opinion, it always had the possibility to be really big (if you don't count the copyright issues).
I don't really understand how osu is a weird esport because a rythm game is fucking hard even when you look at it for a second moving your fucking hands at the speed of light just to get that number 1 place on the leaderboards

Damn, I am so proud of osu! for getting more and more public, especially during r/place.
osu eSport is actually a real deal already
And boy its always a banger
Finally someone talking about osu, i spent 9 years to climb in the ladder. I got enough time to witness every single epic moment in osu story and i fucking love it, i always wish for us to be bigger
Seeing counterblox up here is pretty funny. But I will give it to CB, everyone took it extremely seriously. Was honestly just as competitive as the csgo comp scene at a low level.
Ayy toosmart
This indie game I used to play “Bean Battles” was a very competitive game that had a lot of tournaments. It’s as it sounds, a battle royale where you are beans. If you make a part three definitely include that.
Bean Battles is amazing price/quality wise. Just because all of my friends could afford it we still see it as one of our favourite games
@@Mrkzgames agreed, very fun game and back in the day I used to play some tournaments and make some good videos on it. All of that for 50 cents was a steal!

HetStrand moment

Melty Blood is one hell of a game
great mechanic and solid arts
hell its made by typemoon, one of the greatest "indie" game company in japan
type moon didn't "make" it. they hired another doujin company french bread to make the game which was an astounding feat considering the source material that they have to work with is a visual novel therefore they have to come up with how every single character would be animated in a fight. french bread would later on release their original title under night and recently worked with type moon again to develop type lumina.
Please, don't say "Smash clone". It's a well developed genre these days: platform fighter. Smash is the one that started them all, but most of these other games aren't "clones" becuase they don't want to be Smash, they just starts on the same concept. Doom isn't a Wolfenstein 3D clone, for example. "Clone" isn't a pretty word
It would actually be interesting to get a listed video on underdog or underrated esports scenes
I feel like comp csgo/css surfing would be interesting to cover here. Quite a small scene but really fun and challenging imo
As well TF2 rocket jumps or other movements
"I don't think seeing Leonardo take Zim on will ever sit quite right with us."
He says as the premiere platform fighter allows Minecraft Steve to explode Sephiroth with TNT as Luigi wavedashes away from Banjo Kazooie.
Okay, sure dude lmao
absolutely love to see Counter Blox in the thumbnail. Spent 3 years in that when I was younger, even ran the 2nd biggest league as an Admin. Fun fact; a large portion of the competitors used cheats, though would face punishment if caught still, game staff was really secretive, with one prominent member who was previously a high level pro player, was caught using triggerbot, and there was just constant toxicity. Really fun time, but Jesus it was a chaotic cesspool.
Tbh waiting for a full episode on osu
Akshon eSports has a really good video on osu
@@Tejan45 more just covers the history of the game rather than the competitive side of things, i mean just a day ago a guy managed to earn more from a single score than any other tournament win ever.
They are certainly weird... ty for ure hard work bois
The 4 dollar cube game on Steam Geometry Dash had a small run as an Esport. Back in 2021 there was an attempt TWICE to have a Geometry Dash World Cup, where players would race on incredibly difficult community made maps. They would have 5 representatives for each country, or region, (US Midwest, Southwest, etc.) and basically the further you got on a level the more points your team would receive. Overall it was alright, it wasn’t really entertaining to watch but it was a fun concept
As some who has played real comp dbd in the past the game on a really high skilllevel is really unfun unless you start putting in impost rules outside the game for the players. Hexies tournament was a truely great one though that did feel well balanced so maybe we have a good step in the right direction.
comp dbd as a whole is just a massive joke lets be real here
I never thought THE TURBO GAME had a 300k tournament LOL
even when im a csgo main, i still play counter blox competitively for fun. its pretty alright actually

I’m one of the larger commentators for a really small esport for a game called shell shockers. An io game that almost everyone I know played in elementary school. It’s quite literally eggs with guns. No prize money but leagues that run these games have relationships with the developers and a lot of teams have gotten in game cosmetics to commemorate them winning large tournaments.
melty blood isnt a weird esport. It's a fighting game ffs. Just cuz it's a haha funny bathroom game doesnt mean it isnt a serious title
This. Very strange choice for this list and even an odd choice for a token FGC item (Arcana Heart, Sailor Moon, Windjammers and many more FGC games are much stranger...). Very excited to see it at Evo though, Melty has always been great to watch.
@@va818 it's another reminder of how this channel treats smash/fgc content as mostly a joke
Preach
Ikr CS running on toasters is equally a meme, but they treat it like the holy grail of eSports. Obvious bias is obvious.
Melty's history as a poverty game makes it weird. As a game though, it's just a solid anime fighter.
The Sailor Moon fighting game that was literally just a meme turned into a real tournament, that's a game that's weird in premise and in it's history.
You should put the indie game Cards and Castles in the next one, it's a card game with a thriving competitive community with tournament being held every week for around 100 dollars via dischord.
There is such thing as a Beat Saber World Cup (BSWC). Countries assemble teams to compete for the title. As far as I know it's all community ran. It even has songs specially created to be mapped and played in the tournament (such as Camellia's "Toxic Violet Cubes"). That's about all I know about it.
The tc2 clip gave me joy
There is a game i played called Standoff 2. Its basically CS:GO on mobile, it even has its own minors and majors. Dont know if you put it on the list before, but definetly worth checking out
Hey as a competitive counter blox player, Yeah it's really sweaty sometimes more than CSGO. Respect to my counter blox friends
Mannn I used to play counter Blox when I was like 12, it actually brought me into cs.
7:01 ANOTHER DIMENSION
coincidence or not?
this hits different after the roundtable
you guys should’ve used the clip from owc 2018 i think where bubbleman fced that one map, most hype moment in all of owc history imo
Bubbleman FCing maps nobody else FCs 1v4ing people, doesn't that happen everytime he plays?
Bruh I thought the Osu! Esports scene was big and respected enough not to be called weird. Like the local scene is booming as it is, already recieved at least 6 months of osu!direct just playing community tournaments. That's at least 15usd lul.
This videos are addicting
i host minecraft minigames tournaments. have been doing a series for a 5 years now and its stayed pretty hype
you guys definitely need to do a deep dive video into the osu community
I hope to one day see Backyard Baseball 01/03 on this list. There's been a competitive league for a few years now! Former champion here - been a while though.
turbo snail racer dude looked like he spent aloooot of time on
shell shockers the browser game underrated competitive scene, has whole leagues made and has the game devs on call for prizes for season winners.
might play melty blood after watching this
The weirdest shoutout of another RUclips channel lol
Another weird esport: Gundam Versus franchise. Each year, at EVO, there is a tournament held. There are also plenty of tournaments held in Japan but there are some in North America. Definitely enough to have a small spot at EVO.
A fighting game and a card game are weird esport?
yeaah this channel's standards get lower every day for this kinda stuff, the fact osu is on this list despite having (iirc)yearly world cups for all four modes and having licensed songs so no copyright issues just baffles me
@@Ethereal6541 yeah, it feels like they have stopped doing much research about the topics they cover which is sad
I think OSU! Has the highest skill ceiling of any game out there
I actually remember playing Turbo Racing way back on mobile I miss those days.
4:41 Oh god, the meme came true. Guess Who became an esport.
"The Okay hand gesture is Not Okay"
Shocked NASB got on the list… I mean I guess the scene is small so it makes sense but the game is fun
Competitive paintball esports would be dope. XD
Holy shit counter blox is actually mentioned?!??? I was in a pro counter blox team(i got no play cuz I was benched the whole time and then got dropped) when I was in 8th grade and I remember bragging about it for the entire year.
Half of these are legit regular competitive games and not weird at all imo. NASB and MB are both fighting games so it makes a lot of sense
7:51 the current featured artist program is doing well right now especially the monstercat partnership so maybe the copyright issue is gonna fade
I can defend the Counter blox Esports for not being weird because its a great experience for younger people that cannot play CS
Your so right
Half of the people I ineracted with on cb admits that they play on potato pcs
Since you guys talked about Gwent. You should do a story on the user who posted a custom Gwent card on the Gwent subreddit every day until Renfri (Character from the book and show) got put into the game. CDPR just announced her finally after what I think was like two years.
Lets see if Renfri guy isgoing to spoil it
The dude who won six figures in a snail mobile game has got to be the most bad ass dude in gaming, and I’m not even joking.
Total War: Warhammer
Souls-Like multiplayer PVP?
How is Melty Blood weird? Outside of it being based on a 18+ visual novel, and the melty blood being played in bathrooms. Osu is not the only rhythm game with an esports scene on top of that.
I think you guys should cover some arcade rhythm games like Sound Voltex, beatmania IIDX, maimai, CHUNITHM etc. next time. They are pretty competitive games in the top level and even have their yearly "world championships" with the Konami Arcade Championships and King of Performai. Beatmania IIDX, Sound Voltex and Dance Dance Revolution even have their own esports leagues created by Konami themselves.
the problem is konami would literally just shut down their channel if they even started talking about any of that.
@@Sinaeb even if they would just show tournament footage from their channels?
@@MooncakePuff I'm a bit exxagerating, at worst the video is just going to not be visible to anyone. At best they just won't get any money from it.
so does osu? also konami would destroy the whole platform if a single frame of their footage gets uploaded here
no pls
Honestly, I've seen hype plays with DbD. More so with the killer Deathslinger. Since it IS a 4v1 game, they have requirements that the survivors must do before being considered the "winner". Honestly, as much and a fan I am, it is weird lol.
1:00 nice reseach .... Dorks
I think a really fun and interesting thing to talk about is the "Valorant Accent" Sinatraa and Zombs sort of made big. I'd love to see a video on that :)
Why is Gwent a weird esports game. Does that mean other card games like Hearthstone have to be weird too? I know HS , Magic and others are much more popular compared to Gwent. But Gwent is faster and better supported than Cyberpunk. Would like to point out that CD Projekt has a Soldies game which I think requires more brains than other online card games.
But thanks for promoting Gwent.
it's probably because if it being a minigame in witcher 3
Counterblox was so fun lmao. I actually wanted to get into it “professionally”, I even joined a team at one point. The footage on the video is pretty old footage though, that’s like OG 2016 counter blox roblox offensive. Nowadays it’s just called counter blox and the graphics are much better (take that with a grain of salt). There’s even their own controversies in that game lol. For example the Castlers guy at 1:09 is one of the developers for the game and also had cheating accusations at him because he was just so good at a roblox game (he had like 8000 hours on cs iirc). The accusations were started by another roblox youtuber named TanqR. He lost against Castlers in an Arsenal (another game by the devs of CB) tournament and got so salty that he accused him of triggerbotting. Since TanqR has such a huge fanbase, all the Stans accused Castlers of cheating. Castlers was also on Team Cringe which was like the Sentinels of CB. They were the most popular team even if they weren’t necessarily the best. The team also has people like Aimer (now plays Valorant), kamo (or kamoyes) which plays Valorant competitively in Poland, and howaims (idk what his specialty really was, but I have a rare knife from him lol). Highly recommend the game if you can deal with the fact that it doesn’t get updated much and the devs don’t really care about the hackers any more.
Edit: kamoyes (Kamo) is basically the simple of counter blox
and he uses triggerbot
@@moss816 see what I’m saying? 👆They just spawn in randomly as soon as you mention Castlers.
@@v12val there's more than enough proof, there are more videos exposing him than you would think.
@@moss816 even if he does use a triggerbot, arsenal is so easy you can destroy ppl who triggerbot and wallhack with barely any resistance, you can talk shit all you want, theres still skill involved even if he cheated because of how easy arsenal is
@@Ethereal6541 false, and by no means am i shit talking him.
You guys should definitely check out the game “identity v” it’s similar to dbd and apparently there is a esport scene
A cool video to make would be on mobile esports and their scenes as a video suggestion. Nice video!
I remember Krunker has its own FaceIt servers
I was so surprised to see osu! & DBD here in a theScore video, I actually thought these 2 were quite known

osu! being included is no shock as rhythm game itself is pretty bizarre genre game out there
lemme tell you about minecraft *bedrock* edition competitive 4v4 scrims on treasure wars on the hive network. its crazy
some of my friends play melty blood and they meme the shit out of the whole bathroom thing and its hilarious

MELTY BLOOD??????? YOU ADDED MELTY BLOOD
Osu isnt that obscure if you pay attention to rhythm games. The one that probably needs to be added to this list is GeoGuessr which has weekly tournaments for top players with prizes between $250-$1000 now
I don't think Gwent should be on this list tbh, I mean you have the more recent legends of runeterra making a big splash in eSports while having equally uncommon origins.
ive played counterblox for a few years now
theres alot of hackers i can say
i love that game though its fun
Why is osu and cbro seen as a weird esport? its totally normal
Melty Blood isn't a weird esport.... that's like calling blazblue or dbfz a weird esport, it's a fighting game, those are commonplace....
that and couterblox, it's not weird that a shooter has an esports scene....
shrek super slam is weird because outside of being from the early 2000's and also being based on an IP that only lives because of memes it was clearly never meant to have any sort of competitive nature to it
If only Friday the 13th had an eSport. I could have been a contender
Slapshot: Rebound
Finally games my laptop can handle 😂😂😂
Melty blood has made main at Evo. Just because it can run on a toaster doesn't make it wierd or niche. This channel is built on CS eSports for Christ sake. That game runs on toasters too.
The funny thing about Counter Blox is that Roblox has unironically a better anticheat than CS2
You guys should cover Slappyball. It’s one of the weirdest and most under appreciated esports there are.
These are weird....but in a good way.
