Switching my two sets of carbon HiFi wheels has always been the best and fastest way to have "two bikes"... the road set has 32c rubbers and the rough stuff gets 45c rubbers.
I did this with a 3T Exploro for a couple years, and now I roll like this for my SupersixEvo SE gravel, shallow lightweight DT Swiss wheels with Cinturato M 45c, deeper Token wheels with Cinturato H in 38c for commuting and winter slop, and a set of Santa Cruz Reserves 52/63 deep wheels with GP5000 30c tires for longer touring episodes like a RAGBRAI.
How did you guys decide on no lights for a highway ride in the rain dressed all in black. Informative video for those who wouldn't think of this basic mod. Love your content... Keep em coming!
Love it! 2 Questions that your wisdom will inform: 1. Have you found a great handlebar bag that works with out front GPS mounts? 2. What boot warmer/dryer do you use?? You're a legend!
Newspaper or thin cardboard works great for drying shoes, stuff it inside the shoe and leave it near a radiator, if they're really wet replace the paper a few times.
Great idea - I've enjoyed converting my Polygon Bend R2 from 650b to 700c as needed depending on my ride for the day. I can actually fit a 27.5 x 2.3 tire on the front, but only a 2.1 on the rear. Great wet ride.😊👍
Love this! I have a cross bike with 700x33 cx tires, another set of the stock wheels with 700x28 road tires, and a set of 650Bs with 2.1 knobbies. Almost makes me not regret selling my road bike and my freeride bike. Almost.
I tried this. My usual was 29x2.2 and I got another 700x40 set. I didn't love it. A friend of mine advised against it, but I was stubborn and did it anyway. It's like he said it would be: a gorilla in high heels.
Did that with my XC hard tail MTB. Got some 29 x 2.1 gravel tires for fire roads, gravel, and bike packing. Got 29 x 2.6 for the non-gnar single track.
yup! after a few years of riding 700c wheels, I finally took the leap for a set of 650b's (Logos Ataras) and they've been a blast. I'm not an expert, and a recreational cyclist at best, but I noticed a difference. The bike felt fun and playful.
I have two set of wheels for my gravel bike and it makes a big difference. If I didn't already have two sets I would take a look at those Seido wheels they looks nice.
Did the same thing but went with 35s for my Cinturato H tires on Firecrest 303 wheels. Fast road bike. Then 27.5z2.1 Rutlands when the gravel is sloppy or bikepacking. Love it for when I’m not in the woods on a stumpy evo
Have a road bike with big clearance, recently bought a gravel bike with even bigger clearance, buying a alt wheelset for the gravel bike (650b with small tyre) seems like a great idea something I'll probably gravitas towards at some point. Right now happy to separate the disciplines but can clearly see the benefits of having a bike (or even bikes in my case) which can be switched out seems like a no brainer. Big out of action? Jump on the other one. Enjoying the videos, recently subscribed - hello from cold and wet England!
I roll 3 different sets of wheels and tyres on my Planet X Tempest Titanium gravel bike Dustin, 43mm Bruce Gordon Rock and Roads for mud and knarly stuff, 45mm Hutchinson Override’s for summer dry gravel, and 32mm (which actually measured 34mm) for the road-my gravel bike is also my winter road bike. In fact I am going out this morning-just swapped the wheels as we were going road but it’s still icy so we are going gravel. I would love to come and ride with you but the 6,000 miles and 10 hour flight is a bit of a stopper.
Just gone down that route too, got me some road wheels and some slicker rubber for the road... Slogging it out on gravel tyres is hard work on a road ride. Been thinking about it for a while.... Looks lime good ol' English summer time there... Enjoy 👍
Was just about to ask the name of the artist for the first song - wow, great work Ron! Also loving that there is at least one other person making cycling videos with non-generic boring sample music stuff. P.s. more Ben in videos! Great character
Coincidentally, I just setup a new set of Hunt 650b’s for my Niner which came w/700c. Absolutely love what they do for dirt riding 👍🏼 Thanks for the great vids DK- 🤘🏼Get Rad!
I’m currently holding off getting another wheelset, currently have 650s that came with a Craigslist aspero buy. Running the wtb bye way 47mm and still making em sing. Last night I did dream of getting back to something over 70psi and close to 32mm once more to switch between 😂😂
Free is free of course, but it's a gravel bike with slightly skinnier tires. Put some road rain tires at least if not full slicks and let him feel the power.
I am literally in the middle of doing this on my Trek Checkpoint. Got some old roadie OE wheels and some Vitoria Zaffiro Pro Control in 32C. PS, you coming to Colorado for the Old Man Winter ride?!?
I tried this but went back to swapping tires only on my favorite wheels (and I’ve got the sealant stains to prove it). Too much fiddling with brake calipers and indexing.
That's interesting, hiccups on a ride is new to me, but it makes sense since it's a muscle spasm in the diaphragm (I think) which is part of the pelvic floor group of muscles and cycling (or any athletic activity, really) engages those hardcore. I bet that's something a pelvic floor physical therapist could help to address.
Done and dusted, already. About to take the schwalbe big Apple 🍏,off and on with the Specialized Renegade Control T7. Me thinks chain numbers will count. When do you have to run the same chain with its own cassette ? Fortunately I have a 9 speed cassette so not real pricey to replace. By the way it’s a @Specialized #TurboLevo #hard #tail but I m 73 and phukin enjoying Gr8 way too, have 2 bikes!!! Enjoy your show with rides in the *high* country, and don’t spell that one wrong ✌🏼🤙🏼
What if.. what if my triban rc100 only costed me 270€. Assuming I got the same exact budget wheelset it's got (because it's not bad, but I also kidna wanna do a disc conversion) would probably cost me 50 bucks per wheelset and another ~40 bucks for tires.. Is that worth the effort?
Dude that ride looked like a slog. You should try the maxxis refuse sometime. They come in skinny to super wide but they have a little nubby tread. Way better than the mini knob approach.
This makes lots of sense, but using gravel tires for the road bike? Not. Some 28C or maybe 32C with no tread like those 40C has. sheesh. Okay... after watching more, he is a slightly larger guy? I weight 180 and run 28cs on the road. He might could go down to 35C but still without the aggressive tread the 40C has.

How are you liking the supersix? I just got my cx version
Thanks Dustin, really enjoyed watching this!
That weather is just grim 😬

This video is long enough, dirty/rainy, dynamic, nerdy, friendly and really good sound ! Thx to exist !

@@bikesandstufff I've done that for years and want to be lazier... haha I've seen boot warmers in videos past and I'm curious what he uses.
Depends how big a bar you need but the Attacus bar bag works fine for this for me
Hello Dustin! Love your videos! This is actually something I have been interested in doing to my old Diverge. Hope you are doing well! Happy New Year!
Great idea - I've enjoyed converting my Polygon Bend R2 from 650b to 700c as needed depending on my ride for the day. I can actually fit a 27.5 x 2.3 tire on the front, but only a 2.1 on the rear. Great wet ride.😊👍
The production quality of your videos is great. Always enjoyable to watch.

You’ve got it dialed!!!
Rolling serotonin indeed. Lovely vid Dustin!
That Boltcutter fucks‼️ totally missed what you said it was during the live EBD. Hope to see more of Ben. I laughed out loud a few times.
❤️❤️❤️

This 2-wheel set solution is a great option -- really good music choice too -- thank you Mr. Lewis -- :)
More Ben in the future.
Did that with my XC hard tail MTB. Got some 29 x 2.1 gravel tires for fire roads, gravel, and bike packing. Got 29 x 2.6 for the non-gnar single track.
FWIW, you might need to re-allign your disc calipers if the rotors start rubbing on one wheelset, and not the other!
I had this exact issue when I did this a few years ago, as well as having to reindex my gears - not quite as an easy, quick wheel swap as I'd hoped
yup! after a few years of riding 700c wheels, I finally took the leap for a set of 650b's (Logos Ataras) and they've been a blast. I'm not an expert, and a recreational cyclist at best, but I noticed a difference. The bike felt fun and playful.
Love the music...Ron rocks🤘
I have two set of wheels for my gravel bike and it makes a big difference. If I didn't already have two sets I would take a look at those Seido wheels they looks nice.
I wish I would've known about Seido. I just bought a pair of 700c wheels paired with 32mm Panaracers. Loving the two bikes in one deal!
Gore Shakedry for the win! 🤘🏽😎
Ben with the best cap in the land, GSC forever.
Did the same thing but went with 35s for my Cinturato H tires on Firecrest 303 wheels. Fast road bike. Then 27.5z2.1 Rutlands when the gravel is sloppy or bikepacking. Love it for when I’m not in the woods on a stumpy evo
Love the Pirelli Cinturato's. My go to tire on two wheel sets in 700 x 45 . black on stock wheels, and tan side walls on my Hunt's

I really like the frenetic editing on this one. Return to form.

2 wheel sets for the win! I would have done Specialized Pathfinders in 38 or 42 for longer life and better hardball speed!
Your videos rock man. Love the content.
Just gone down that route too, got me some road wheels and some slicker rubber for the road... Slogging it out on gravel tyres is hard work on a road ride. Been thinking about it for a while.... Looks lime good ol' English summer time there... Enjoy 👍
I have a pair of Mason x Hunt Adventure wheels for gravel and a pair of Spinergy GXX carbon wheels for the commute, less space than two bikes!
no such thing as a slightly outdated Porsche. These things age like fine wine and like you Ben!

Great idea been doing it for a bit now on my Diverge and now on my new Giant . I have three sets . Awesome 😃
Excellent video editing on this video.
Thank you very much!
Why not with 35mm slick like panaracer slick. Will be more road and off road also will be fine
Thank you for the video, my brother. I’ve been thinking about doing this instead of having two bicycles smart move yo
Whoa I have the same Boltcutter. :D 700x42 with Terravail Cannonballs for everything.
I’m currently holding off getting another wheelset, currently have 650s that came with a Craigslist aspero buy. Running the wtb bye way 47mm and still making em sing. Last night I did dream of getting back to something over 70psi and close to 32mm once more to switch between 😂😂
Those wheels went fast… they got the dklein bump
Seeing the “control” & “confidence” signs, you should turn your handwriting into a true type downloadable font.

Yes love this spread the knowledge!❤ keep pedaling ✌️ 3d printing a low poly Porsche as I type this
Best bike vids.
I tried this but went back to swapping tires only on my favorite wheels (and I’ve got the sealant stains to prove it). Too much fiddling with brake calipers and indexing.
For those who can’t afford two bikes this seems like the way to go.
we love ben
That Ben is a funny dude...

I took this concept to the extreme and added the rest of the bike to the spare set of wheels.
Ben Magaziner official fan club.
Please more Ben
Ben has the jokes and he's awesome!

Wow 48 miles over 4.33 hours in that weather, that's 30 miles and 3 hours post having fun.
Hiccups in the cleats, Apnea in the sheets.
LMAO
Hell yea dude
Chuckles
You need 2by for Cinturato Gravel H
Maybe I missed that bit but was he riding with SEIDO tires too or just the wheset?
let everybody telling truth ) thx for your content ) its reminds me life without w//r...

Cheers
How many black/gold Boltcutters we got in this town!? 🤤
What if..

Is that worth the effort?
30mm or 35mm Schwalbe G-One Speed for road and very light gravel. G-One Bite or Ultra Bite for gravel. 40mm would be way over kill for pavement.
different strokes for different folks
Ben`s saddle seems to be a little high, his hips are slightly rotating.
Hey Dustin! Why are you riding without a helmet?! *Dad laugh*
is there a pnw accent?
Soft vowels, think fooorest, hooooorible
This seems like one of those things that people do on youtube but not in real life.
Kachaoeew
Dude that ride looked like a slog. You should try the maxxis refuse sometime. They come in skinny to super wide but they have a little nubby tread. Way better than the mini knob approach.
Ooooo man i wish am your friend 😅😅🤣🤣
Between my road bike and my MTB why do I need a gravel bike?
long distances on fire rides/bike packing adventures, it helps
Is Ben not a out of the box thinker?
Just poor
Only if you can afford two sets of rims though 😢
cheaper than 2 bikes
Also truth! I’ve almost saved for my 650b set :D going with the hunt 650b adventure carbon :)
700x40 for road? That's fatter than the 38mm tires on my gravel bike😁
To me, Ben's seat is bit high
Guy doesn’t need food nor water?
😂
I guess it was a strictly zone 2 ride

Is wearing dark riding clothes on dark bikes with no lights on a dull weather day advisable?
I was thinking the same. DK is not known to be color-shy; where's the high vis orange?
@@tongpocalypse151Yeah, precisely. Even in the Summer I have daytime running lights on my bike and wear bright jerseys.
Thank you for confirming my suspicion about water being for liberals 😂
🤣😂
His fit makes my hips hurt..
But damn, that bike though…
Lock them 'bows for extra stiffness
Ben!
Fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
Gravel bikes crap off road and crap on road
