  • “MadMax” 2001 Maxima update
Just a update video on MadMax
    It has 243,366 miles
23 years old (made in Nov 2000)
    Nissan VQ30DE v6 Engine
Just cleaning it up for sale “as-is”
    - clean inside
    - clean outside
    - patch coolant reservoir
    - new front brake pads
    - seafoam cleaning (skipped)
    - new rear struts (video published)
I got a really good deal on the rear struts, Quick struts complete unit
2 quick struts for $72 off Amazon. the were branded as TOPAZ but when they came they were really Duralast from Autozone. I have used a TOPAZ part from eBay 1 year ago and it worked out for me. The TOPAZ struts where the same identical struts would of cost $212 at AutoZone.
look for a video on this install. The only reason I decided to move forward with the rear struts replacement is because they were a pretty good deal for what they are, and the install did NOT seem that bad. 2 bolts in trunk ( 13 ft-lbs ) 1 bolt holding the strut about 80 ft-lbs.
It will do somebody ok for just kicking around locally or for a project car.
No long trips more than 2 hours would be my guess. Unless they replace the transmission and rear main seal.
It has some quirks which will be disclosed in sales post “AS IS"
special thanks to youtuber ‪@CarsNToys‬ and his extensive videos on 1997 Maxima which is the previous Generation Maxima from this one. Same Engine . Maxima Model years 2000 and 2001 was a improvement on it.

FYI the ABS Light , scanner said this. on line there are very few places that have this same code. and one place with solution I cannot get to because it requires a paid login for ASE certified mechanics to get to it.
    www.iatn.net/techhelp/27/1704/2001-infiniti-qx4-3.5l-abs
I am not a Mechanic. just handy and know a few things to get by, or to keep shops honest.
    "ABS light on fault codes
    8f (Control Unit 17),
    8d (Control Unit 15),
    8c (Control Unit 14)
is what scanner reads. not much help in the codes. "

What problems I know on the maxima assuming that the rear struts are replaced :
      - rear main seal oil leak and other oil leaks means you have to add a lot of oil between oil changes
      - transmission neutral safety switch adjustment or switch
Just if it happens I just take it out of park to N and put back in park and then it starts could be just an adjustment or $30 switch part it’s been like this for 3 years.
      - transmission code p0744, it’s lost O/D (4th) but all other gears work after transmission flush and 2 bottles Lucus and seafoam trans tune. It’s been drive. 41k miles since p0744 came up
      - ABS light on and don’t know why, maybe ground issue
      - AC compressor is weak and weak AC
      - 1 of tires needs replacing soon and the other 3 are ok but not great
      - rear rotors could stand to be replaced but they will do just fine
      - broken fog light bulb
      - cruise control switch and bumper , it’s an easy fix just rarely use it so I just disconnected it rather then spend $40 or so for new switch and bumper
      - hood support strut , just use a scrap peace of wood to hold up hood as seen in. This video.
      - could use an alignment

@@dfields9511 yes oil leaks like that hard to do especially if not able to get to them
