Cam I follow you for long now and I can confirm that this video is the greatest and the most impressive you've already done on your channel. Great scenery and amazing shots (like the aerial view of the car on the bridge). Mate, you've level up so much that no one in the cycling youtube game could fight with you (even GCN ^^). Can't wait for the next one ! Thanks Cam :)
Great video Cameron, since you asked, the "golf ball" thing on top of Great Dun Fell is a radome which contains both primary and secondary surveillance radars which are used by UK air traffic control (NATS, National Air Traffic Surveillance) and also a repeater site for air traffic control communication with aircraft amongst many other antennas that are up there :)
I think getting the drone out a couple of times to watch the motorhome drive over bridges etc would have saved some time. Also filming the motorhome drive away, then driving back to get the camera. 😁 but despite the title, it sounds like the challenge was more of a side thing. You can't trump the experience as a whole really! Great video!
Great video Cam. It doesn’t matter if you succeeded or not. The fact you made another cracking video for us to watch and enjoy is what matters. Keep it up fella.
What a fantastic video! The challenge, the scenery, the aerial shots, the crazy weather for May. This had it all. Really looking forward to the next challenge. Thanks Cam!
Nice idea and video (as usually). Last time i climbed the Lecht i left my arm warmers at the top forcing a 2nd ascent. Balls. Next up for you might be the biggest climb in the UK which i think is the Bealach Nam Ba - sea level to 650m and back to sea level in about 15km. But if you do go, the coastal loop to get back to the start is arguably harder than the climb itself. Its just relentless ups and downs. Borrow the van - its stunning up there.
Bealach na Bà at Applecross. “Bealach na Bà is a winding single track road through the mountains of the Applecross peninsula, in Wester Ross in the Scottish Highlands. The Bealach na Bà is just one feature on this road, being its highest point and site of several corries. The historic mountain pass was built in 1822 and is engineered similarly to roads through the great mountain passes in the Alps, with very tight hairpin bends that switch back and forth up the hillside and gradients that approach 20%. It has the steepest ascent of any road climb in the UK, rising from sea level at Applecross to 626 metres (2,054 ft), and is the third highest road in Scotland.”
I think the clock should start at the base of the first climb, that normalizes the challenge for anyone else who wants to attempt it regardless of where they might live. Great video, cool scenery! Would love to cycle in some of the scenic spots of the UK. Say hi if you're ever in Boulder, Colorado USA!
The answer is: YES YOU CAN! I also make videos for different projects and now started my own vlog... Small details like you placing the camera down and coming back cycling to the van, doing the drone shot, etc... those take time! If you did not spend time filming, you would have done it. I would take an hour out of the total time to make it fair. So you did do it under 12 hours. Congrats mate!
Loving the challenge - great to have you back smashing the content! Only one problem... Marchlyn Mawr in Snowdonia looks to be higher than some of these... gate at the very top is at ~640m according to the OS Map! 😉
Good effort on Lowther, but snow up there in May is not that uncommon. The golf ball at the top of lowther is for civil aviation radar equipment and along at the next hill of Green Lowther is for British Telecom as my dad used to work for BT and maintain equipment on Green Lowther. The buildings that you passed at the bottom of the climb store snow track vehicles for civil aviation and BT so that they can get up to the top of the climb in the winter as there can sometimes be 4ft or more snow drifts on the hill. The snow tracks have rubber caterpillar tracks to drive on top of the snow. It is also why there are snow poles on both sides of that climb up to the top. 👍
Living in northern Italy I was quite shocked when you showed the height of that climbs (and even more when I learnt that the biggest UK mountain is only 1300m!!). I'm so used to see big climbs topping up at over 2000m, 600m are like the first hills you encounter from the plains around here
@@simonwillgress The Italian mountains can be as bad for gradient, worse even, than some of these. And they go on 2 or 3 times longer! I've done Lowther Hill, and the 10% is "only" 2km, the 12% only about 800m. Monte Serra by Pisa is 4km at 9.5% - from the Compito side. Ouch, ouch, ouch.
Great video as usual, Cam. However, we demand that you revisit this climb 11:32 and go for the KOM anytime you're even remotely close by. That KOM is ours! (Quick before Ed goes on a UK KOM Tour! xD ) 15:56 What are you saying about the Scottish scenery, aye? ;) Next time an even harder challenge for you; Can you ride to Formby and successfully find the beach? ;P
@@Cameron_Jeffers Got to do the full climb though, from Sanquhar doing the full Mennock pass, to really claim that KOM. Does it count if you drive up more than half-way to get the sub-segment? :)
Great vid, nice idea well executed. Jasper Verkuijl did a stunt like this - riding every province going from the southern to the northernmost point in the Netherlands (I wouldn't be worth doing all the dutch peaks) in 24h. I'd like to see someone do Lands End to Lowestoft.
Ah did Great Dun Fell in April... it was awesome. Nearly threw my full sleeve jersey in a hedge to collect on the way back down - glad I didn't it was a freezing ride back down! God knows how you descended it in all that snow, its a scary climb without the ice potential - if you didn't just walk some of that near the top I'd be amazed!
A lot of the attempts at Lowther hill will have been people whose climbing started at the bottom of the leadhills - either at Abington, Elvanfoot or the other side up from the Mennock pass. If you drive up to Wanlockhead and start from there - yes you're going to be a lot fresher. You're only doing half the climb! The Mennock pass side is the longer climb. Try that.
When I saw the upload I was expecting something like this as I saw the data from dun fell you was up there last week as I was hovering the segments as the same day I was up lamps moss which also has a lot on snow up there
great video great climbs. did you do killhope from the west side, heading east? (the official seg for 100 climbs is that way). chapel fell and dunn fell are two of my favourites👍👍👍. there is a fantastic loop called the big 4 which is chapel fell, dunn fell, hartside and killhope in a full 88 mile loop. worth a go.
Cameron, hate to break it to you but your geography of Scotland is a bit out that was Glenshee you climbed to my local ski centre on the second to last climb and you were closer to Blairgowrie than you were Avimore. It is a good road tho and I have thought about going up it on a bike. Great vid tho can't wait to see more of these time limit based challenges! Love the content!
Hi Cam, Great vid. It is Cairnwell (not Cairnell). I know it is Scotland (I'm Irish and living in Scotland) but they deserve the correct spelling. And what happened to Belach na Ba at Applecross? Surely you've heard of it? Cheers Don.
I remember climbing Great Dun Fell - my uncle helped build the radar station at the top back in the day! Had my first proper crash on the descent on a good day so fuck doing it in the snow 😂
Cam should have done an Andy Hampsten from the 1988 Giro and ridden through the snow to take that KOM. Perhaps a cool follow up video during the summer could be “taking the KOM on the UK highest climbs”

thats a pretty cool fact... Thanks!!
@@Cameron_Jeffers It also has the highest flushing toilet in the UK.
@@mactoshdog arguably the better fact.
Same thing for Lowther Hill. It's a NATS radar.
if you stayed in your kit it would ave probably saved like an hour, great effort anyway cam 💪🤜🤛
But then the kit would get really nasty, because it couldnt dry, and driving in cycling shoes is also terrible 😂

i can honestly say great dun fell was one of the toughest climbs ive done in england. fair play!
That shot of the van at the end with the drone 👌👌 Scotland is such a beautiful place

In my eyes you made it well within as your timer should have started at the base of the first climb. Well done in crazy adverse weather conditions.
Loved this video Cam.....dramatic scenery and a great challenge....you always deliver...amazing
