      @Scooby I would argue that while some choose not to use a looting bag, the majority of UIM use a looting bag to increase their storage capabilities. I think that would be considered integral if the vast majority use it, as the same way HCIM use a 1 click teleport whilst doing pvm, I would consider that integral to the game mode.

    These are all way too true. I’ve wanted to commit to playing UIM for so long, but the biggest one for me is the looting bag thing. Having to play LMS to maintain the looting bags just sounds horrible.

    As a ~2100 total UIM, I totally agree with everything in the video. I love the game mode, but there are so many small QoL changes that could go a long way.

    End game UIM here..
    The game mode is definitely inconsistent, but that is what makes it fun to play (and I think a few things SHOULD be ironed out).
    Needing to learn strategies/specific mechanics is what keeps it interesting.
    One of the core principles of the mode that keeps it exciting is strategizing. I think this needs to be preserved at all costs.
    Anyway,
    I completely agree to make changes to the Ward death/ornament kit storage. Ward is kind of garbage at least, might as well alch (the upgraded piece) for 3m and just keep shadow and maybe a sang or toxic staff with no offhand. Going to corp for an arcane is just not typically worth the time .That being said, it's still definitely a little screwed up that it's kept on death. Also, I guess it's not my place to say "keep x or y item".
    Orn kits don't change functionality, they're a great way to show off what you've achieved on the account. Having to drop a fang kit/scythe kit etc is pretty shitty.
    STASHes... Shesh, that is a can of worms that got opened, but realistically, it should only include what the clue step asks for (I.E. no storable bowfa etc). It's kind of too late to backtrack on this, but for example, Masori mask should NOT count as an Arma helm etc. Leave the current functionality as is going forward.
    Spice rack... At the end of the day, whatever IDM if we have spice racks or don't, but it just is way too much more effort than just getting the level, spend a few extra hours to unlock it without the hassle. I don't see why it is something that needs to be changed.Just get the level so you don't need to boost it.
    Buyable looting bags... No.
    Looting bags are meant to be PVP items. If a UIM wants to gain the benefits (the mode is all about being flexible, thinking out of the box to make things work etc)... They should need to do pvp/wilderness activities. I find LMS reasonable.
    Also, I think if a UIM wants to use a bag, they need to understand the mechanics of it and risks it involves. It's similar to deathpiling. Pretty safe, just need to understand the specifics.
    You also seem to have dumbed down getting a bag. You can easily get them at edge skeletons, deadly red spiders.. Thugs... 90% of the time, you can do it without any risk while you're deathpiled with a cheap weapon/wildy sword.
    There's a method to get bags without even stepping into the wilderness and doing LMS (edge skeles).

    The biggest issue about using death banks isn't just how sketchy it can be to reobtain a looting bag.
    The biggest issue in my opinion is that it doesn't. require. your. bank. PIN.
    All of your stuff is free for the taking.

    I've always felt that having a 3 item PVP death would be really nice on uim, allow us to actually participate in wildly content more than like a d scim, or crossbow. At the moment the risk isn't worth it unless you happen to have items you don't really care for already.

    Great video! I've been feeling all the anti-qol building up on uim lately myself. The recent ancient staff upgrade being untradeable was so disappointing, it feels like theres no real reason it shouldn't be tradeable. To add more qol I'd like to see, although this is more nitpicky, it's about reclaiming rewards that have been made possible to buy/get more than 1 easily. Such as diary rewards. There is just no quick-buy version, you have to go through the menu of how many you want to buy. Non-uim buy 27 ardy cloaks once, but uim buy one ardy cloaks 27 times. I feel it adds up on the tedious fatigue that I feel shouldnt be there, such as looting bags.

      The amount of untradeables that have come into the game recently has definitely been a point of frustration for a lot of UIMs. I think Jagex hasn't given this much consideration because they're likely just unaware of how this impacts ultimates. I'd love to see the quick buy option that you suggested as well!

      They were in communications with uims about the shield when it was coming into the game. The ancient staff was strange though. I kinda thought they would make it an actual stash with the attachment. Also the fact that you can only but 1 staff per account just make the first one 80k and then make all the other ones 160k.

    More ways to obtain looting bags would be nice. It could even be sold by Perdu. It kinda fits with the sorts of things he offers. I'd also love to see a Dramen Staff from Perdu; he already has Lunar Staff for 60K so a similar amount for Dramen doesn’t seem unreasonable and it would benefit non-UIM who happened to lose this as well, which is the whole point of Perdu.
    I'd also be all for improving storage options with STASH, Spice Rack, and such. TBH, I wouldn't mind if let you store kitted amulets in the Treasure Chest; much like the STASH Units, it is kind of inconsistent which kitted items you can and can't store there. storing a bunch of BiS items may be a bit strong for UIM, but there is little reason why you can store a Dragon scimitar (or) but not an Amulet of fury (or); they are both Elite Clue Kits that work the same. If they are worried about this being too OP for UIMs, they could make it like the Dragon gold-trimmed armour were all of it uses the same space so UIM would need all of them to take it out (i.e., all 3 Zenytes plus Occult in same slot in Master; Berserker Necklace and Fury would be single slots in Hard and Elite respectively).

    What about introducing the ability to buy Looting bags from Slayer Masters using Slayer points? They could be fairly pricey, but like you said, it would still be better than the current alternative.

    Very good video analyzing the current issues with UIM. On a seperate note, I'm so glad the 750 total level and 30qp requirement to participate in LMS fixed the bot problem! (This is sarcasm.) - Looking at STASH units, I personally ignore all game mode. I believe that the STASH unit storage should extend to anything that you can use on a particular clue scroll step as that is what they are intended for. I believe it's currently inconsistent?

    re: stash units - it should be based on the clue IMO. If an item is valid for the clue, it should be stashable. That should be the line.

    Great video. Only issue i had with it is when you complained about lms. Its literally never been packed with pk bots as long as ive been playing any of the ironman gamemodes. It takes maybe 20 minutes to stack easier 20+ points to use for looting bags.

    The ornament kit case would need the ability to store the mutagens from Zulrah because those are essentially ornament kits as well and they make the Serp untradable once used. The problem is that the mutagens are one time use so not sure really how it could work for UIM.

    Recently started UIM myself a couple a months ago and funnily enough had the same thought process regarding looting bags as you. My idea was kinda catered towards benefitting pvpers as well, a one time payment to the emblem trader (1m maybe?) to unlock the ability to buy bags from him for 50k. if you kill someone in the wildy the pker gets the money (like barrows or other untradables already) and makes it simple for uims as well as any other account type wanting to do wildy stuff like slayer or revs

    Lms even has a fairly steep total level requirement for new players (as a safeguard against bots) so it's even more of an issue for new UIM. Perhaps looting bag should be simply obtainable from an npc in ferox?

    What about allowing untradeables in the looting bag? Especially with the new crystal armour recolors, we're kind of locked out of that fashionscape unless we want to lose 2-3 inv spots now, or have to recolor them every time.

    What's people's view on Crystal armour storage? It takes 6 looting bag slots for the armour seeds and/or 3 perm inv spots for the set?

      I'm in favor just because I dislike chargescape so much. Throw a super steep corruption cost on the armour then allow it to be stored at that point. I like CG, but I know a lot of people don't and would rather not spend their time coming back time and time again, or pickpocketing elves

      Only spot UIM's typically keep helm for is for their first inferno kc.
      No, crystal should remain untradeable. You should need to charge it for the benfits.
      Also, it's kind of garbo these days. Masori rush is about the same speed (unlock toa vs unlock priff) and it's magnitudes better than crystal (imo) because it's not permanently on you.

    My main uim issue is the ancient staff. You can only buy one after Desert Treasure is done. It is a super important item for any account.
    it is required for ancient magic if you do not have a master wand. The only 2 ways to get a staff after losing it or dropping it, are from mummies in the DT pyramid which drop it at a stupidly low rate, as well as poison you or throw you out due to traps. The second way is wilderness, which of course for a uim, is almost a no no. it means risking your death bank or a ton of progress.
    You could argue that sure kodai is storeable, but how many early / mid game uims would have that?
    And now with secrets of the north and DT2 coming out there are going to be a few upgrades to the staff to make it more useful.
    I don't see why they cannot let us buy more staffs from the guy in DT for an inflated price, even if it's like 300k or something to not cause a market crash.
    if they really don't want more staffs in the game, let us store it on an occult altar or something, just anywhere to keep it safe.

      @@ZorteOSRS I'm not yoga :p and people have always told me that the kodai wand is storable inside the magic armour case in the poh, not checked myself though. I do agree that after dt2 that could be a good reward / unlock, even if it's overly priced, it's a safe option

    Honestly there should be a storage item storage in the house for empty storage items eg. coal sack, herb sack, seed box, looting bag, rune pouches, heck even the flamtar bag, and that coffin thing from shades of Morton.
    All items would need to be empty of course to be stored. But why not allow storage for these niche qual items that often take so many hours of time to re-earn that they’re basically unusable on uim unless you just have exorbitant amounts of time to waste. Give us a storage shack to store store items. Please jagex, I beg thee.

    I absolutely love the idea of storable ornament kits. Unlike all the other ideas mentioned, storable orn kits are purely cosmetic and don’t provide any utility to the player whatsoever.
    I can understand both sides to the rest of your ideas, and I’m not sure what the right thing to do would be.

      Always nice to see a fellow UIM creator around here :) I appreciate comments like these that show people are giving this thought rather than running with a knee-jerk reaction. You and I are deep into our UIM journeys and wouldn't be the main beneficiaries with most of these points. I think some people outside of the UIM community look at asks like these as selfish requests, but it's quite the opposite: these are for the next UIM generation. I love ultimate ironman. I want this community to grow and thrive. I feel that sometimes elitists members of the community put their own egos and accomplishments above addressing issues with the game mode. I'm a firm believer that it's okay for the next generation of UIMs to not have to suffer just because I did. All of the suggestions I've offered here came from that vein of thinking: keep the core identity of the game mode intact, but also make some improvements that will help accessibility and allow the community to grow. Anyway I'm rambling, but I felt it was worth expressing my motivation here. Thanks for stopping by!

    I literally didn't know about the ornament kit thing because there's already an example of one that works. The rune scimitar God variants can be stored in the oak chest. I didn't know that the other kits weren't storable.

    I think you should just have a permanent looting bag that you're able to access at various locations throughout the world. Maybe have a Loot Bag Teller that helps you with that. Would fix a lot of problems

    Really well made video!
    UIM storage is a tricky topic and I can't come up with a solution.
    I believe Jagex shouldn't design content specifically to ensure it caters to UIMs. I think it's fine for UIMs to be an after thought as long as necessary changes are made so we aren't compeletely fucked over or can't objectively complete crucial content such as diaries, bosses or obtain skilling outfits etc.
    However, with new updates bringing new forms of storage for Ultimates, it's hard to come up with a "correct" solution for how UIMs should or shouldn't be able to interact with the new forms of storage because every UIM has their own perception of what it means to be a UIM. Where you draw the line for breaking the spirit of the gamemode for things like the costume room and stash units will always be debatable within the UIM community.
    It's worth noting that the "I suffered so you have to suffer too" mentality also works the other way too when you consider making something harder. Take a look at the inconsistent dangerous deaths with regular hardcores and group hardcores. Jagex didn't update the dangerous deaths for regular hardcores because it wouldn't be fair to hardcores completing the applicable content in the future such as COX and the Inferno. Sometimes the "I suffered so you have to suffer too" mentality is justified in a game like OSRS where players invest thousands of hours into the game.

    I would love to see a uim qol poll that addresses these points. I've forgotten just how annoying getting lootbags can be and I don't see the harm in bringing them back to slayer shops even at a steep price. The ward is such a flex on a uim and I bet so few have one. It's a shame its STILL bugged months later

    I never played UIM (only play HC), but could relate to many issues as HCIM mode also has a lot of inconsistencies. Specifically when it comes to death mechanics. For example ToA is inconsistent with the rest of the game and PvM activities except ToB, wherein you lose the status when disconnected / world hopping etc. inside the raid. However, at the same time it is inconsistent with ToB due to the fact that it doesn't only involve combat, but also puzzles. In other words getting a disconnect in ToB means you're in combat anyway, so your character either dies or you teleport out with RoL / defense cape. In ToA, on the other hand, you disconnect and lose status just standing and chilling in a corner of a puzzle room. Feels like there should be some dedicated community manager or targeted surveys so that they can understand these consistency concerns and dedicated communities better.

      you guys are objectively correct, but in my totally subjective opinion, making a recording of my mouse clicking 3 iron rocks 28 times and dropping the 28 ore then repeating it approximately 115,000 times to get 99 mining IS a form of QOL. i have other video games to play and only so much time to play games in the first place! i'd never be able to experience all of the content in OSRS in at all let alone as an ironman if i actually bound myself by the usual restrictions. it is really fascinating to see the mindset and playstyles of people who play ironmen though (especially UIM).

    I think it'd be wild if you guys had zero stashes or death piles or any of that. Literally play the game with your bag and that's it. If you get two bandos chest plates, you either drop one, alch it, or drop trade it if you can even do that. that would be brutal

    Prospective UIM player here, how many of these things have changed? I know that Looting Bags were added to the Slayer points shop, but have there been any others?

      Most of these have fixed. I'm a few months out of the loop, but AFAIK the ward death behavior still hasn't been corrected and the ornament storage hasn't been implemented (but Jmods mentioned that was something they'd like to explore in the future). Playing a UIM will give you a completely new take on the game. It's a fun time, give it a shot if you're on the fence :)

    Really liked the ornament kit idea. It's not only a problem for UIM but for mains and regular irons as well. The problem being is if you get a torn kit for example, and are early or mid game, it becomes a permanent bank slot space until you kit that area of the game. It's getting punished for doing well?... Shitty mechanic on their part.
    Spice rack is another great idea as well, I don't get the logic they are using there, you would still have to catch all of them, TP to house, store them, and repeat. That's a hell of a time sink.

      @@Nes924 The gp sink of buying bank space shouldn't really just be the end all be all of keeping items. If that was the case then the whole idea of STASH units and even the costume room would just have no reason to exist because the logic would always be that "oh well, go make money for bank space.".... Let us not forget about items that are only obtainable for a limited time such as the silver necklace, all of the golden items from Priest in Peril, etc that people might want to keep.

    Just a regular ironman so I cant speak of your struggles but I do wish as a whole they would make game rules more consistent across the game, which as you say will make the game better. Also, it's hilarious you can't even use a Spice Rack, made me laugh.

    Love the video. The idea of an ornament kit case is perfect as it just adds flex, not function.
    Further to your point about the ward, strange old lock picks from sepulchre are similar, except you can bag them, and if you die with one bagged, it appears in your next looting bag until you destroy the bag in the wildy. I wish there was someone at Jagex who could be given a list of bugs/QoL changes focused on uims and actually update these issues.
    Lastly I feel like there are so many things that are randomly untradable like the new sceptre, either there should be more consistency or untradables should be baggable

    Well going through this, I completely agree on the ward and if its a bug/error then it should have been fixed immediately anyway...
    I love your idea on the ornament kits and think that should get polled with the spice rack.
    I'm pretty impartial to the looting bags, I'm fine to death pile and kill red spiders but I'm pretty minimalist and don't have many items, tbh even if they were added to slayer shops for 20k, I still probably wouldn't bother using them
    But the stash units I find a little weird anyway, specifically being able to store upgraded/ornamented items and even the bowfa stash seems kinda weird (although I'll still happily use it if its there) because there are so many exceptions and specific case scenarios

    How about an Ultimate Bag? Works like a looting bag but you don't have to go to the wilderness to store items you got in a team raid (making the whole team wait for you)
    Can hold untradable items so you can store the ornament kitted items
    Cannot be banked or withdrawn from. Only way to retrieve bagged items is to die
    Looting bags can no longer be used by UIM and they have to be bought from the ironman armor giver for some amount of money
    Maybe all accounts get access to it but they'll complain about not being able to withdraw items from it so maybe not

    There is no problem with forcing UIMs to do LMS to safely obtain looting bags. Looting bag originated as a wildy item and even today can only be used in the wildy, it makes sense you get one through PVP. Its only 1 point per bag, which is 10 minutes of LMS at most. OSRS is largely a game about doing chores to make progress, and removing the need to do content just because players hate it doesn't make much sense in this type of game.
    By this logic, since most ironmen hate doing agility for amylase, Jagex should just make amylase buyable for gp

    Awesome and well thought-out video as usual man!
    I am playing 2 UIMs at the moment (one is a more snowflake account and the other is a standard UIM account going for quest cape) and I do agree with what you're saying here as the inconsistencies sort of make decision making more difficult at times.
    I am sort of surprised that ornament kits (at least TT ones) aren't storable in the POH chest - the beginner clue Rune Scimmy ornaments are built to work this way, why couldn't all ornament kits act this way too?
    Sort of a side note from your video, I am sure there will be people that disagree with this but with all of the Wilderness updates happening lately, for it to be a bit more inclusive to UIMs, I would love to see some way to keep 1 item on death in wilderness if you use Protect item. Basically, what I am saying is still make it so that we lose everything on death but if you pray protect item, you can keep one. It just means, we have more opportunities to do wilderness content because we can one-item monsters. Then we don't have to re-gear everything again after dying.
    I am just thinking have it so that this ability can only be used in the wilderness.
    Imagine that reluctantly decided to do some wildy content after spending 30-60 minutes creating expendable gear, that took you months (longer than normal/regular irons) to get the level to make them, get a lucky craws bow drop, only to never use it again in the wilderness because you're scared of losing it. It would be a flex to show off but that's about it.

    Really wish we had any reasonable source of looting bags. Even if they kept the tie to PVP, put it in the PVP Arena reward shop too, since that minigame features an MMR intended to give you a more fair fight and reward learning, rather than throw you in too deep every time. A buyable looting bag would be a godsend though. I've been dreading learning some bosses because I only have 5 stored bags in LMS and the new point scoring system really punishes noobs like me. Where I used to get 4 bags from 1 kill, now I just get 1, and getting 1 kill is already hard for me - and it requires skills I have no interest in developing or using, because I don't enjoy PVP.

    maybe a bit of a hot take looting bags should be able to hold untradeable items.
    there really isnt even too many use cases for this, Itd really just be being able to bag say my blowpipe without having to uncharge it or trident with the same thing.
    i think the biggest use would be crystal armor but honestly seeing how we can already store the bowfa in a stash unit completly by itself its kinda w/e imo
    also this could be somewhat limited by not being able to store degradeable untradeables like crystal armor.
    this would also completely fix the orn kit issue

    I always was of the controversial opinion that the Ironman Tutor should give out looting bags to UIMs. Buying them at slayer masters is a decent alternative. Giving a player the choice of either risking their entire wealth in wildy or playing a pvp minigame is forcing someone into a pvp scenario and I really dont like that.
    Not even mentioning you need to be good enough to get a least one kill in LMS to even get one bag.

      They truly had to fix a lot of stuff to make the mode even possible in the first place. Back when you could only store outfits if you had the entire outfit, meaning you take out full proselyte and cannot store just the helmet, or you have to get full rogue and full graceful to store them rather then one part at a time etc.
      But yeah at this point I think they truly need to do something at least for looting bags.
      Jagex could always says you are not forced to get a looting bag to play an uim too. You are forced to not use banks but the rest of the content you can do. I think if they polled the thing about looting bag it would pass with flying color, same that happened with the death mechanics getting revamped and your stack following you when you die. Imagine doing wildy content, power goes out and there goes one hour and your stuff on the ground disappear.
      Going in the wildy and being forced to do it is stupid but it is a part of UIM. Some UIM got pked for billions just taking one step out of it. Part of the game but IMO this should be changed.

      looting bags are so easy to get already. UIM is supposed to be about figuring out ways around things. ward should be fixed. bowfa should never have been allowed to be stashed as its a completely different item to a crystal bow. spice rack shouldnt be allowed, just get the spices as you need them just like you always have done

    If I could make any change to the gamemode I'd simply make protect item work in the wilderness. Especially given the new wildy update I really want to grind rev tasks and snag a wildy weapon, but the fact that it would only be usable for one life just makes it silly.

    One more point, i do feel it will be cool if we could buy back toa jewel from perdu for like 500k because it feels bad to alch it because you want to do other content and now go super dry on it to get it back from toa at a 1/180 and you can still roll on the other jewels.

      If you go super dry on it its actually really really bad luck cause its base is 1/180 but your completions increase your odds so youre actually getting a better rate than 1/180 it caps at like 3 times more likely or something like that the info can be found on the wiki also if you get one dont alch it until you get the one you want because you cant get dupes!

    I would really love if they did something to alleviate the construction dependence of uim. Yes, it would seriously decrease the challenge of the game mode but goddamn if you want to do anything above early midgame it's almost impossible without >80 construction

    i will never play UIM, but I think it is a very awesome game mode. Maybe they could create a UIM looting bag with a change of color that allows untradeable storage. It could be acquired through maybe some type of skilling method or tasks from adam at lumbridge and could change the color to white because I think it would look cool. For some reason I know a lot people are against specific updates for specific accounts specifically ironmen, but I don't see why you guys can't have a simple QOL update that makes the make more feasible compared to easier.

      At this point I feel it's time to allow untradeables to go into the looting bag! There's just so much untradeable stuff now. The alternatives we get are stashes, which is way more powerful than just being able to put some crystal armour and ornament stuff in a bag. I don't think this has to be an option just for uim, although niche use, some non-uim might benefit from it as well like getting clue scrolls on your wilderness slayer task.

      Just gotta say... Part of the mode is deciding to keep which items are valuable. Untradeable bags is a big no-no.
      There's a lot of UIM's that have hardly any untradeable and if that's how they want to play, that's fine. There's also a lot that sacrifice a lot to keep specific high value items, and suffer for it (crystal armour being the big one). That's how it should be.

      @@runesr4nerds I wouldn't say its a big nono now compared to before where I would agree more. The game keeps evolving with more and more untradeable niche items and the restrictions havent followed to compensate for them as much. You still have to keep your untradeables, it just replaces a slot in your bag instead of a slot in the inventory for the most part. The idea of "can I afford this slot?" has been replaced by "this is untradeable, I won't keep this". To be honest it allows for more difficult choices with the same limited inventory instead of a more narrow set of choices.
