Well I love Hung Fu
Kung Fu Hustle is one of those movies that never gets old! My favorite scene is the Epic Fail of a Knife Throwing Assassination Attempt leading to a hysterical chase scene.
I remember getting this film for Christmas in 2004 at the age of 19 and I watched it every single day throughout college; usually twice a day at least and it never lost its humor!
I watch this film every year with my family and we crack up every time. We always imitate Jane’s run 🤣 those scenes kill me every-time
That knife throwing fail is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I still roll over laughing, hoping I won' t pee myself.
The guy who plays the husband of the landlady is Yuen Wah. He was one of the iconic child Peking Opera troupe known as 'The Seven Little Fortunes', which included Jackie Chan.
Wah was always known as the best acrobat of the troupe, and his incredible skills were perhaps best displayed in fellow 'Fortunes' member Sammo Hung's epic masterpiece EASTERN CONDORS.
Thats so cool, I didn't know that.

@@RolandDeschain1 landlady actress name is Yuen qiu. The Yuen name given to the student of Peking Opera. I forgot the name, but Jackie and sammo also given Yuen name. Tho, they ended using their curent star name
@@satyayana1399 Jackie's and Sammo's Yuen names were Yuen Lo and Yuen Lung respectively, in honour of their teacher, Master Yu Jim-Yuen.
Another Yuen that is worthy of note is Yuen Biao, who was almost as acrobatically agile as Yuen Wah and was very good at tricky kicking combinations. Yuen Biao did a lot of doubling of other people (sometimes he even successfully doubled Sammo despite the clear size difference between the two).
One of the men using the stringed instruments as a weapon is the late Fung Hak-On, who played a lot of villainous roles in classic Hong Kong action movies including _Police Story, The Magnificent Butcher, Warriors Two_ (as well as a rare good-guy role in _Snake In The Eagle's Shadow,_ the film that started Jackie Chan's success). He also had a brief fight with Donnie Yen in _Ip Man 2._
Sadly he died in 2016 after losing a two-year battle with oesophageal cancer, but he came up with some incredibly memorable bad guys during his heyday!
What many people doesn't realise when the Landlady beats Stephen Chow with her slippers she actually really did put in real efforts. The crews actually told her to hit him hard as pay back for Stephen's hard demands from his crews. It was so good that Stephen Chow insisted those shots were kept eventhough he said it was painful.🤣
Landlady is probably my all-time favorite character, what an amazing film this is. Saw it in theater upon release in the US, it was packed and everyone was really into it and having a great time. Happy to see you ladies watch this again!

The emotional scene in this movie, the guy robbing the mute girl that he once tried to save during childhood, always gets me teared up, no matter how many times ive watched it

The biggest diffculty of Hong Kong's movie is that it is so hard to do the tanslation of Cantonese, the way they were saying was so funny, Steven Chow was switching the formal and informal way of speech in different sences and that made the humour. but however, hope you enjoyed it!
Many Chinese Kungfu movies were made with reference to Wuxia novels. The musician killers were one of them, as in Wuxia novels when your Chi is extremely strong you could use any thing as a weapon, so in this case the musical instrument was used as a weapon, and it was the chi that was projected out of it (portrayed in the movie as knifes, fists, undead soldiers, etc) that was lethal. Similarly, the Beast's toad style was also from Wuxia novels, it's the technique of a super grand master villain and is extremely well known among Chinese people.
Do you remember when the musicians first met with the axe gang, they said the no. 1 killer could not find any worthy opponents, and decided to check himself into psychiatric care lmao.
Stephen Chow loves movies so he references a lot of famous ones in his movies. In this one I recognize the shining, ghost busters, jumanji, spiderman, shaolin soccer (one he was in previously), bruce lee (not sure which one but the silent threat landlady does is a famous bruce lee move).
The beast did tell the power couple all he was interested in was killing them or being killed by them. He specifically said that before the fight even started. When he surrendered the power couple should’ve remembered. And taking the killing blow. Instead, they’re good people and allowed them to surrender.
39:49 The beast was saying:"I've lost" instead of"Master" This is where he finally admits that he lost.

Its hard to digest the fact many people around the globe hasn't seen this movie...
Nowadays reactor will always say that this is not the type of their movies, because they're supposed to watch it in 2005 or 2006 to think that Kungfu Hustle is a masterpiece, especially for teenager..
I watch it back in the day and I'm glad my brain didn't know about graphic or cgi yet..
So, because you guys watch it in the modern days, you have no right to judge the 2000's movies..
It's okay to think that it's not your cup of tea, but it was really good back then..

The kungfu in this movie are from the legends in 5000 years history of China. Someone believe they did exist many years ago and represent the top state of kungfu. Anyway, no matter ancient Kungfu or today's Kungfu, besides the usage of fighting, it conveys a kind of philosophy from Chinese culture, usually if you do better in Kungfu, you will know more about the philosophy that may contain the way of living.

The reason The Beast turns into a toad is because there is a famous series of books in China that features toad style Kung Fu
The ball being crushed was not quite unnecessary. I'm pretty sure it was intended as a throwback to the previous Stephen Chow film with a lot of the same cast called Shaolin Soccer.
It was Stephen Chow telling the fans (and the Studio) he wasn't going to do a sequel to Shaolin Soccer (though I kind of wish he would).
You should watch Shaolin Soccer. Aside from being another great Stephen Chow movie, "no more soccer!!" makes more sense lol

You need to watch Bruce Lee’s final (and greatest) *Enter The Dragon* 🐲 as well as the current series based on his ideas, called “Warrior”. It’s like an Asian Game of Thrones-type drama, mixed with Tarantino, kung fu films, and a western.
Mags, the husband of the old lady with the cigarette was a famous stuntman in Asia in their youth, along with Jackie Chan. He was in Marvel’s Shang-Chi. Both of them were in Enter The Dragon.

This movie has a lot of jokes that go over most people's heads in the West because they are poking fun of *Chinese* and *Hong Kong* pop culture that people in the West miss. That is just how funny this movie is though, Westerners miss a bunch of the humor and are STILL laughing their butts off. A small explanation on why the kung fu is so weird. In Chinese, Japanese and Korean mythology, martial arts can be enhanced by chee, which adds mystical qualities and abilities to it. The ghosts that came out of the musical instrument is not even that strange in the old stories. You want to see some REALLY weird stuff check out the Chinese legend of Journey To The West. One of the main characters is a shape shifting rock monster that imprinted on monkeys when it first became aware and keeps its monkey form as its main form and is a super kung fu artist.
