    LIKE if you think electric 2-wheelers could tempt you out of your car & SHARE if you want the world to go electric
    Niu scooters are currently the best selling scooters in the world - and they are electric! Designed for an urban environment, this Niu GTS-Pro is not built for high speeds or long ranges, but it has enough of both to make it the perfect electric solution for commuting and last mile deliveries. It has two batteries, both of which can be removed to be charged anywhere making charging easy but not the fastest. It comes with an app and some cool tech which allows users to see how the scooter performs as well as locate it and turn it on remotely.
    It might not be the fastest two-wheeled electric vehicle, or have the biggest range, but it's comfortable, enjoyable to ride, nippy and lets face it, it looks pretty cool!

      These go too fast for being classified as a moped/scooter since they go up to 43 mph or 70 km/h, and a moped/scooter can't go legally faster then 28 mph or 45 km/h, so you probably need one of the motorcycle licenses, and if you have a motor license that is great, but why would you limit yourself to 43 mph or 70 km/h?
      Probably not safe to go on the Motorway if all the other traffic goes at a minimum 20 mph or 30 km/h faster then you can go, on highways in the Netherlands the max speed limit is 100, 120 or 130 km/h, i don't know if in the UK there are roads where you can go faster than 60 mph though, but that would mean in the Netherlands other traffic can go 30 to 60 km/h faster than you. (including lorries, and they will try to overtake you, they already do when another lorry is going 100km/h)
      - So you probably need a motor license to operate these.
      - Probably not safe to go on the 60mph+ roads
      with other traffic being much faster.
      - Not allowed to go on bicycle paths (speed difference between bicyclist and this is too large)
      Why not get an Electric motorcycle that can atleast safely maintain motorway/highway speeds?
      at a minimum of 60 mph or 100 km/h, you might not be the fastest road user but on roads lower than those speeds you can atleast keep up with the other traffic and not be a nuisance like the hated cyclists that has to share the road with the car driver.
      Or if it is solely for city driving, why not get an Electric moped/scooter that can't go legally faster then 28 mph or 45 km/h? So it falls under the AM license. (more people probably have an AM license than an A, A2 or A1 motorcycle license)
      for some positivity, i like the design and removable batteries.

      Well done story. But he should have mentioned the Niu GTS-Pro, is just one of many electric two wheelers that NIU produces, to address the naysayers issues with this model.
      And I did not hear anything directly said about ride SHAREing, other than some of its security features which has fueled its growth.
      Just hope the company hints come true and it willl be built and sold in the USA too at some-point.

    I am a NIU owner since more than one year and I am very happy with the vehicle. I already did 6000 km with it (about 3728 miles). A couple of corrections:
    - The turning signal sound it's indeed cringy but you can change it. There are 7 different sounds you can choose from already installed in the vehicle
    - The electric motor is not inside the body of the scooter, as the gentleman implies. Its inside the wheel of the vehicle, in the rear. Important detail, since this means that the scooter even lacks a transmission belt: one less piece that needs maintenance or needs to be changed eventually!

      TBH, the electric bikes in China have had removable batteries for many many years. They pull them out and take them into the flat/office to charge. You can even plug them in at various places along the roads...many places have chargers specifically for this and charge for the privilege, of course....often they're (push)bike places, and offer other bike services like repair/etc.

    Nice to see how the bike world is coming on with the change to electric. Please continue to keep us informed. I do like the fact that you can remove the batteries. It makes it possible that you could either replace them when they do eventually wear out or possibly even fit an upgraded battery as better tech comes to market for extra range. The biggest issue I have with this bike is the lack of a top box or mount to fit one.

    Our batteries would last longer if the local government decided to install charging in the city centre car park. But for the moment they prefer giving planing permission to new gas stations, so we end up cycling our batteries very quickly. CAR PARK AND RESTAURANT CHARGING ARE A MUST. That extra hour of charge makes a world of difference.

    I would like to get one of these but the pricing is sort of messing with my head. Specifically the fact that the second battery adds 60% to the price, it makes sense because it makes it a different category of vehicle, both practically and legally, but the difference between $2900 and $4600 is kind of huge and has me looking at gas-powered scooters. Also the knowledge of how cheap they sell in China. None of which is entirely rational but it makes it more difficult to decide.

    So this scooter is a budget offering, and has to be welcomed on that basis, thanks for the intro to it. For micro-car alternatives, the Kandi K27 now getting test-driven in the USA, you mentioned this diminutive little car I think, sometime? Anyway, one reviewer said sticker price is about $10k US and with tax credits in Colorado, he got it for $6,000. I mean, it seats four, keeps you out of the rain and goes and stops. Allegedly it’s not been crash-tested, which I suppose is pending, but this is a step above a Twizy at least. Really, a very cool option if it passes the necessary standards. Someone spoke about the dealer network, but really, it needs compared to a used car of the same price, and there’s no backup if something goes wrong with one of those in reality. My experience is, either it’s a Kia type long-term full guarantee, or it’s the first three weeks of ownership, or you have zilch.

The speed is adequate. They’re on special offer at the moment at 125 quid off, so about £3475 for this one, The lesser cheaper models are a bit slow, I won’t bother with them unless you’re 16.

  • @JustWasted3HoursHere
    @JustWasted3HoursHere 4 года назад

    That first statement about finding the electric vehicle that's right for you is absolutely true. Although hundreds of miles of range is nice, for many (most, even) less than 100 miles is completely fine. This is the case I found myself in when I began looking for my first EV. I work less than 10 miles from where I live, so about 20 miles a day on average for me. I found a used 2016 Kia Soul EV with a range of about 93 miles (and also in great shape: Only about 17000 miles on the odometer, one owner, well-kept, etc) for less than $13000 and it has been and is the best car I have ever owned, by far. I look forward to driving it every single day and when I have to drive my wife's ICE car for any reason it just doesn't excite me.
    So, moral of the story is look at what YOUR particular needs are and investigate your options thoroughly. You may find that you don't need a brand new Tesla Model 3 but could get along quite nice with a previously owned BMW i3, Fiat 500e, Volkswagen eGolf, Kia Soul EV or many other choices. Check used car sites like carvana or cargurus and see what's there. Prices start at well under $8000.

    if vehicle makers stopped designing and building cars and bikes like we traditionally do and say built a bike around a larger capacity battery, we would have vehicles that would go a lot further and faster. In terms of 2 wheelers, think of a brick with 1 wheel at each end in the middle. Then place a seat, handlebars, lights and controls in the appropriate places, we would have a much better proposition.
    As a biker myself, I know how much power you need to safely ride in traffic (no biker is ever truly safe in traffic), and sadly I don't think this has. Nor do these types of bikes have very good range, particularly when travelling in mode 3/sports mode.
    I am 57 now and sadly I believe that by the time these vehicles will be what I would describe as fun, I will be too old to enjoy them. Life eh!!

    Would it be useful if such vehicles have a pedal option to cover the last mile?

    • @MrAdopado
      @MrAdopado 4 года назад

      No because it would need a new "drive train". There is no drive chain or belt so there is nothing to attach pedals to. It would not be feasible to add the necessary sprockets/bearings with the large hub motor ... so unfortunately not possible with this particular design (some others do accommodate pedals because of different design).
