A brief history of one of the most important companies in electronic music industry.
My Dad&Mom bought me an ACE TONE organ which seems prophetically lead me to be a Roland Boss user which then working for the main distributor company in Indonesia since early 1990 then be my best favourite collabs company compared to other world top brands distributed by my office: KORG, Technics, Ensoniq, EMU, CASIO, Rodgers, Johannus, Fostex, AKG, etc some no more but we are still friends) until now even though Roland Group is no more with this company. Rest in Peace Sensei Ikutaro Kakehashi San. Thank you for keeping the musical We Design The Future on. Cheers!
This was more or less a history of Rolands sound modules and cards used with PC's wich i really enjoyed You're in depth coverage on which modules and soundcards do what and how they are similar and the differences. Great video i learned alot! I also do videos on rare roland gear not coverd as much, so i had to sub:)
Great video! Thank you for sharing
Wow japan i didn't even know Roland is a Japanese company
Roland, Yamaha, KORG, KAWAI, Casio, AKAI. All of these synthesizers and samplers are Japanese companies. Also, companies familiar to music producers such as Sony, Audio-Technica, Tascam, TEAC, VSETAX, ZOOM, 🎸Fernandes, BOSS (a subsidiary of Roland), 🥁TAMA, and Pearl are Japanese companies.
It’s kind of interesting that a Japanese music company named their synthesisers amplifiers and speakers and other products “Roland”….
The name Roland is actually an old, German Name and it means “Renowned Land”
Also, it’s a surname as well and a first name. I love Roland products. I have two instruments a piano I synthesiser, and I also have 2PA speakers. So grateful that I have such amazing music technology.
Unfortunately, I didn't find out why it was named the way it was named.
@@KITR-UK i’d like to know why myself, but it’s a beautiful name, Roland, that is it suits the technology
Interesting, indeed; it only says the founder named the company Roland as he wanted to target the foreign market, but it'd be awesome knowing why he chose Roland
Here's the reason for the name:
・It is not a Japanese name. (At the time, it was common for the founder's name to be used as the company name.)
・It has two syllables and includes a voiced consonant sound. (I thought it would sound good and be easy to remember.)
・There were no other companies in the same industry that started with "R."
There is a theory that the company name was taken from Roland, the protagonist of a medieval European epic poem, but this is just a myth.
By the way, BOSS, a subsidiary of Roland famous for its pedal effects, was originally named "Megu," but the American joint venture company said that the name was too weak, so the name was changed to "BOSS."😄
Still there is Integra 7 as last Roland's rack module, which allowed to load 256MB GM bank, let's hope, that it sounds better, then my Fantom XR, which sounds DRY in GM/GS mode, despite, that it have logo General MIDI 2, to REVERB/ CHORUS commands he is totally deaf. :-D (you needs to adjust it manually, always).
It seems like I'll have to get Integra module and test it :)
TR 77 sounded great
Can you tell me what the correct Roland Sound card or module for the Mortal Kombat floppy releases is?
It just says Roland or Roland and Soundblaster. I tried munt and the Sound canvas vst in all modes possible.
It does not sound correct on any of them, because MK plays sounds on the MIDI module as effects to the
gameplay for block and some hits even with the Soundblaster together.
What seems like it should be a "thmup" or "smack" is a bell and a gong sound in both Roland modes.
And since there is a Roland only mode I always thought there must be 2 correct answers, a module for the
Soundblaster supported mode and a internal Roland Soundcard that supports digital audio playback.
Well, to be perfectly honest, I've never found out either. Mortal Kombat for PC always sounds horrible. If you want to play Mortal Kombat, it's much better to use some arcade emulator.
@@KITR-UK It's kind of a side quest of me. I'll figure it out one day.
sc-d70 is on my shopping list
Good choice. But beware of the fact, that you'll get SC-8820 bank in DOS games. It sounds better in my opinion, but it's a little bit different than SC-55.
Dis is company good and no good hwau mach selary comin plz sir plz repplai
You might want to find someone without the accent to narrate your videos so we can understand them.
Very incomplete . The family made other things in the begining, you must study a lot to know what they have made before they start the music business , just try and u will do it right .
Rolando spd 20 pad Renu ok
Maybe you'd like to change the title of this video. This is NOT a brief history of Roland corporation. In fact it's light years away from that. Also, the narration destroys the content, hire someone that really talks english. And last but not least, MIDI was Dave Smith's brainchild, not Roland's.
Despite midi is somewhat obsolete in gaming, it's still kind of alive in the karaoke industry, since midi is the format that they use.
Take this for example
A korean karaoke machine that uses a sc8820 (kumyoung kms-a300)
ruclips.net/video/XJV6Jxu-P9Q/видео.html
This one uses a sc55 (tj media pro-2000)
ruclips.net/video/kvw79gdTEyc/видео.html
I have to look into it. Thanks for the tip.
