Outstanding work. Your patterns are top notch. The craft you display is indicative of strong hands and a creative heart. I will purchase patterns to support your endeavors. Vids are great, music is spot on. Keep it up and push forward the craft.
I've purchased a few of your patterns from your Etsy store and they never fail to impress. Just picked this one up as well, and I'm looking forward to putting my little flair on it. Your video production quality is also improving! Can't wait to see what you do next.
Thanks Jason! I'm working on it 😁. Would love to see some photos of your work when you are done! I have some stationary stuff planned next, but I'm always open to ideas for hunting patterns!
Thank you! The padding for this was a piece of leather that was later covered in suede. I use Tandy Eco Flo dyes, for the reddish tinge I add a few drops of red dye in my brown dye 🙂 I couldn't tell you the exact blend, I just happened to get lucky with a nice cherry color in this case.
@@foresterleathercraft Just one more quick question, I'm having trouble working out which size shoulder cartridge slot size to use for a .300 Winchester Mag..7.62mm. Do I use the .45" or .40"....I'm new to gun slings & cartridge sizes 😆
@@64greene 300 Win Mag is a tough one. It's actually quite a large cartridge (the shoulder diameter is unusually wide). You could try using the 0.45" diameter strap, but the diameter of a 300Win shell is actually closer to 0.5" so you might find it buckling a bit in the end. I'm working on a new rifle cuff pattern that should be more accommodating to larger shells but it will be a little while before it's ready unfortunately ☹️
@@foresterleathercraft well I'm glad it wasn't just me thinking this was difficult to work out, I've been researching this all day getting an education on cartridges, lol, typical my first sling customer comes up with a challenge! I really appreciate your help & replies & look forward to your new cuff pattern...in the interim I'll try to sort something out for this one customer...wish me luck...I'll need it 🤣
Getting ready to start this project but don't want to drill holes for the attachment since the rifle I'm going to make it for is old do you have any suggestions.
What kind of rifle is it for? My initial thoughts would be to make the sling the same way and just omit the swivel hardware, then use lacing or something like that to secure the sling to your rifle. It's hard to say what will work best without seeing the rifle though.
Where do you find the longer post snaps/caps/etc like that? Every time I think I am ordering one with long enough posts I end up kind doing layers to hide the error. lol
Hi! I just used the Tandy long-post snaps for the thick pieces on this one (they are 0.5" post length). If you need to order something a little longer than what Tandy has, consider getting something a bit longer than 0.5". Also keep in mind that my patterns pretty much only use snaps decoratively. All my assemblies are held together with stitches, so if you're just barely able to tighten the snaps, that should be okay. I never design my pieces to have a snap hold a load.
Hey Justin, thanks for your support! I use masking tape for this. Often, the narrower you can get, the better. Amazon and office supply stores usually sell it in widths of 1/2". I personally use 1/8" masking tape because it minimizes waste, but I had to special order it. Depending on where you are, you could try office suppliers in your area and they might have something thinner. One note with using tape - if your leather is waxy, the tape might have a hard time sticking and you will need to use a wider size. Please feel free to reach out with any more questions and I hope you love the pattern!
Have you ever done a video specifically about securing the template to the leather with your tape method and then doing the stitch punching then cutting it out? I keep running into issues at this point. I’ll tape template to leather and do my stitch punching then cut it out and my cuts were cutting into my template (want to reuse) and I also tried tracing the outside of the template on the leather and marking the stitch punch holes to complete after cutting everything out but the stitch punch holes were too close to edge for that method. Details of this step would be awesome!
@@justindupuis4383 I haven't done a detailed video explaining the process, but this video shows how I used to do it with a little more detail: ruclips.net/video/-JgqYPGsA1M/видео.html What issues are you running into? If you aren't already, I would recommend using Tandy Pro 2mm chisels as I design the pattern for 6SPI chisels. I do plan on doing a saddle stitch video [hopefully] soon and I would gladly go through the punching process during that!
Thanks KM! I'll probably get a simpler rifle sling pattern together for people who don't want to go through a 12 hour build. Also, simpler = more comfortable in my experience 😁. Other than that, I have some more stationary things I'd like to work on (planner covers, glasses cases, etc...) Other than that, I'm open to suggestions! Always looking for more hunting gear ideas!

I love this pattern. Is your padding piece just leather? And what dye & colour did you use....I just love the colour!

what is the big hole in the sling for?
This is just a loop for your fingers to hold onto. It's easier to let your hand hand from the loop than to try and grip around the body
Nice gun what caliber
