I played the hell out of this song when it was released. The singers that you didn't recognize are Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam & Chris Cornell from Soundgarden.
Lol I always thought it was great that are so few lines in the actual song. It's the same verse over and over, like a strike chant. But can still be so good. This song made me realize that Chris Cornell is the greatest rock screamer ever.
Dude! Chris was in your top 10. He wrote this album as a dedication to their friend who died from an overdose. A one album tribute with members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam before PJ was really a band. Chris sings 1st verse, Eddie Vedder 2nd verse and Chris hits the big notes. 😊❤
It doesn't get much better than this for me. I could live in happiness if this was the only music I ever had. Eddie and Chris are amazing on vocals. Almost not fair to have them on one song together
I love that you analyzed the lyrics rather than just the music and how you could imitate Chris Cornells voice so well. He left us too soon and we miss him. RIP brother.
Lighthouses are so symbolic too..saving lives and a beacon of hope. I worked at a maritime museum that took care of 2 lighthouses so i always notice them. There is beauty in the simplicity and with all this talent and great lyrics it's all you need
This song is always a trip to listen to from the aspect that this record was made very quickly before either Soundgarden or Pearl Jam had truly entered the wide public sphere. so right before anyone really knew who either of them were, we got a song recorded with what turned out to be arguably two of the best male rock singers of all time together.
Nic. Only your Top 5 boy Chris Cornell sounds like that 😄. Just proves you need to do more Cornell, either solo, or with any of his bands: Soundgarden, Audioslave, or Temple of the Dog. If you want to do more Temple - I suggest Reach Down or Times of Trouble.
This was a super group of members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. The vocals in this song are epic! We lost Chris Cornell to early as well as Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, and Scott Weiland. I was a card carrying member of the Grunge Era! It was an amazing time in music. They played the angsty soundtrack of my high school years in the 90s.
I just don't understand how everyone says a power group of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam but people forget the fact that 2 members of Mother Love Bone are also there. Damn it this whole album is a tribute to Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone SMFH
I think it was the live version of Chris Cornell's song "When I'm Down" when you put him in your top 5 vocalists, or maybe it was the live "Say Hello 2 Heaven", or "Beyond The Wheel". Either way, Cornell belongs in everybody's top vocalist charts, RIP Chris
This song is incredibly deep and meaningful. I usually end up just enjoying it rather than breaking down the lyrics and meaning but it's too important to not recognize what he were trying to say when Chris Cornell wrote it. He was conflicted about gaining success in the music industry. He didn't mind taking money from the wealthy and powerful record companies (I don't mind stealing bread from the mouths of decadence) but he didn't like the idea of helping the very same record companies take money from the fans who work and struggle for the money (and they're farming babies while slaves are working). The powerful could have meant anyone though, so the message is relatable for so many other circumstances. That's just touching on the meaning. There's a quote from Chris that explains it much better than I did. "I was wanting to express the gratitude for my life but also disdain for people where that's not enough, where they want more. There's no way to really have a whole lot more than you need usually without taking from somebody else that can't really afford to give it to you. It's sort of about taking advantage of a person or people who really don't have anything." Sorry for the long message but you seemed to be curious about the meaning behind the lyrics. Thanks for the reaction.
This entire album is worth a listen and reaction. I have a 3 hour drive I have to do at least 2 times a month and I play this entire album every time. It’s near a perfect album. Fleetwood Mac has a perfect album with Rumors for reference…
I'm homeless. For 4 years. Have had people steal from me. I get stuff out grocery store dumpsters. People slip money sometimes. Then I get good food. This tears me up. I use to make $19 hr
@thatsingerreactions32 CHRIS CORNELL WROTE THIS SONG IN LIKE 1991 ; HE AND EDDIE VEDDER HAD BEEN CLOSE SINCE LIKE 1990, 1991 AND THEY BOTH SANG THIS TO RAISE MONEY FOR CHARITY FOR MANY MANY YEARS..
They actually met during the recording of this. Eddie came to sing with Pearl Jam (not yet named pj) and was hanging around the studio while other pj members were recording this. When Chris had issues with the low part, Eddie stepped up to the mic and nailed it. They became great friends afterward.
AAAAH....Trust Your DJ....Search Chris Cornell -the singer with Eddie Vedder, or Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden or Pearl Jam....then 1990....their CAMERA MAN NEVER STOPPED POSTING THE EARLY SHOWS! He has all the Rights too. Amazing , Chris at like 21 or 22, before the scene was even known about outside of the NW. Amazing chops!
Glad im a gen-Xer, Ive seen Pearl Jam, Nirvana,Soundgarden,Faith no More,Rush.Led Zep ,Tool,Sabbath,Alice in Chains ,The Specials , The Jam ,Buzzcocks.Madness, The Beat,Depeche Mode.....My word what a youth i had.I pity kids today...do you want to see Taylor Swift dad...er.......maybe
Chris Cornell was one of the singing seattle rock gods along with Layne Staley...Both were two of the finest singers of the nineties and that generation.
Oh....yeah, Temple of the Dog was created as a tribute band to the friends who died from heroine, a major problem of the 1990s rock scene.....Say Hello to Heaven is the song about their dead friend.
Temple Of The Dog consists of Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell (rip) of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden+Audioslave respectively. Chris was the best Vocalist Grunge music had. RIP. Both are great, Sound very similar but Chris has more of a Soul vibe in his singing.
This was pre-Pearl Jam Eddie. Chris was looking for someone who could sing what he had in his head for this song and wanted someone else. They couldn't do it and the story goes that Eddie, who used to be a gas station attendant, was in the studio building and heard Chris working with the song. He walked up to a mic and started singing and the rest as they say is history. Not too long after, Pearl Jam formed. There's more to history than that, but, it is interesting stuff. Also, R.I.P. Chris. Great reaction as always!
Chris Cornell gave us his gift on tape and walked off into history. Mental Health is something we need to take more notice of and care of those struggling with it. If someone in your life changes behavior suddenly or over a short period talk to them and listen!!!.
God Dam. I’m a 90$ music freak and I didn’t know that. damn. Fo real? One week, pre-PJ, and Eddie didn’t know how he sounded? Kinda like how we ALL don’t recognize our OWN voices on an awnsering-machine recording? Wow. Well, he sounded pretty good. Chris, we’ll……. Been there. Heroin will make you WISH you were dead, then it will MAKE you dead.
How are you not hearing Chris Cornell-AGAIN?????!!!!!

To bad we can't 'see' them being legandds

should not be in his top 10 if he does not even recognize whose voice it is

Basically Pearl Jam with Chris Cornell. That’s the Soundgarden drummer, who later took over drumming duties for Pearl Jam some 20 years ago.
in this song the rich that you refer to, are specifically the big record labels. RIP Andrew Wood

Not Steven Tyler, that is the incredible late great Chris Cornell….may he rest in the arms of Jesus Christ
NOW WE'RE TALKIN
Did he dead seriously say one of them looks like Steven Tyler?! If that's what he said, then he has no idea who Steven Tyler is.
