So on one end we have the idealistic to the point of foolishness Federation and on the other the xenophobic authoritarian Terran Empire. Now what if - try not to faint here - there was a middle ground. An alternate universe where humans became an interstellar people, allied with like minded alien species and MAINTAINED MILITARY READINESS in case the Klingons, Romulans or any number of hostile factions decided " we don't like your faces" and warped into orbit of a member world and started launching antimatter missiles. Starfleet could remain the scientific, exploratory arm of the Federation and characters like Stammets wouldn't find themselves in the rock and a hard place scenario where he joined as a scientist but finds himself playing the soldier. One of the most foolish things the Federation did was disband the MACOs.
I'm slightly disappointed that Lorca is from the mirror universe... I was expecting his PTSD to change him, but he's such a great captain - I was hoping he'd stay for season 2

Damn, man has his name given to his STYLE of acting! 😅 Not saying he can't do decent, but generally half his scenes were deliciously, heartwarming oh, and yes laughingly indecent. I myself, when anyone comes even close to his.... style, I say good boy! That's the spirit! Star trek is a comedy science fiction at heart! 👍👍👍 Acting wise of course.
