FARM UPDATE: 13 New Puppies, Rodney Has Left, Day Care Cancelled this Week & Luke is Driving Again

- There’s a few updates in this video that we would like to share with you all. A lot is happening at the farm at the moment 😅
Yesterday 13 new puppies arrived at the farm from the shelter. 9 are only 4 weeks old and another sad example of backyard breeding. Unfortunately in this instance, it is being investigated as a cruelty case and the parents have been seized. This is just so sad. These babies are so skinny and just need lots of good food, comfort and love right now. Another 4 on top of that, little Kelpie X Staffys that are 10 weeks old. Plus we still have the big 3 boys that have not been adopted yet. Goodness there is such a problem with irresponsible breeding, accidental litters as a result of not desexing, dogs returned after COVID and illegal sales over social media. Our incredible rescue organisations are more than stretched for space and resources right now. Something has to give as dogs are in need more than ever. What we are doing here at the farm is just a tiny drop in a very big ocean.
We have also lost Rodney, our bus driver. It has been unexpected but we fully understand how hard the job can be, the hours are tough. Luke worked them himself for almost two years when we first started and we missed a lot of family time. So we wish Rodney all the best in his next chapter.
The bus driver position is one that takes several months of training, so it’s not a job we can simply hire someone for immediately. Due to this, there is no other option than Luke doing the driving again for day care to continue . We are grateful it’s only 3 days a week this year. We also like to see a silver lining in all the hiccups, and we’re excited for Luke to be able to catch up again with all our doggie parents at the bus stops. It’s been a few years since he’s had this opportunity and he used to love it.
Because Luke will be driving again and away from the farm in the mornings and afternoons, we have cancelled this weeks day care days (Wednesday and Friday) so that we can get everything we need to organise here at the farm done, to be set up for when he is away. There is a lot to do.
Luke also wanted to give you an update on all the other rescue dogs in our care.
AND again, we want to express our thanks for your support. The positive messages you send us every day and the heartfelt words of encouragement. You give us strength. Thank you.
I hope Rodney knows he is going to be missed. He is the man behind the wheel in the bus, can anyone fill his loving shoes? We send him our very best wishes for his future plans!! We will miss You Rodney ❤.

Now we're "demanding" and relishing all pick-up takes. Freddo and Banjo have risen up the ranks to co-pilot ‼️ We're getting a glimpse of the Pawrents and are as excited as Luke and the doggos to see 👀 them race to board thr Bus ‼️

Dear Sam, my admiration for you is enormous: although the dogs' love, spontaneity, etc., may give you a lot of joy and happiness, I am sure that it is also a lot of work, constant dedication and thinking how to organize the whole enterprise, your young family, your home, etc.etc. YOU are the foundation on which so much of this enterprise rests! Luke's work is admirable, but I also think that he would not be able to do it as beautifully as he does, and in every sense, without you at the base of it all. No wonder if you occasionally feel a bit low when you see negative comments from non-understanding people, or simply have to deal with the emotional impact of a puppy that was stolen from your care, or of seeing the effects of mistreatment/cruelty by some humans for their own selfish reasons. Do you ever get a break? A chance to recharge the batteries? I often think of that, and I pray for you, with love.

Luke is the dogs leader but I often think Sam is the farm’s leader. She oversees everything including all of us! What a great testament to her, you wrote. I agree with all of it!

Shadow is an absolute credit to Luke's training. She's a little marvel - so incredibly chilled now, just a delight.

You have an international group rooting for everyone at the Farm. Many of us wish we could do more for the Farm, the source of the daily interesting and, exciting, to say nothing of donating your time and expertise to communities working with unwanted doggies.
If I was in Australia I would definitely give some of my time to helping at the farm I would love it x
This group - the overseas group, may be bigger than you think. We rejoice with you, laugh, cry, grieve your losses - which are ours too - and really, if wishes could be horses we'd ride up to the gates and jump off ready to pitch in.Can't imagine that you have enough hours in the day and we pray you will find another driver soon. I do think about the Fab Four waiting in cages for time to stretch, run, play and receive love from the man who understands them best. Stay healthy all of you and may things settle sooner than later.
A personal note about Miss Red - A good life not necessarily a long life. Miss Red may be vulnerable with her compromised immune system but one's heart melts at the life she is living with her sister Violet. Better a shorter life in Paradise than longer away from her true family. Having said that - I trust Luke and Sam to make the best decision for her.

So sorry to hear that Rodney's moved on, it must have been so tough for him to say farewell to all the dogs he's bonded with over such a long time. But the working hours are fierce and sometimes something has to give in order to regain a bit of work/life balance. All the very best to Rodney, he has a very sweet soul. 🙏🤞

I love to see Shadow healing. She spent her life in fight/flight/freeze and now she knows she’s safe to let that go. Lots of sleep and relaxation to heal the nervous system. 😍
Congrats to Chance for upgrading into the suite! All the shelter dogs looked great in their interaction with the pack. It’s incredible what you guys do in mere months.
Those pups are so cute. It seems lots of Staffy’s get sent to the shelter. I hate that. They are such an amazing breed but they get mistreated so often.

I can't think of a better more loving place for shadow and all the dogs to find the best dog they can be.

I'm hoping that adaption applications for all the pups start pouring in and they all find happy forever homes. Please Luke and Sam don't stretch yourselves too thinly.5 AM to 9 PM is a grueling schedule. Just a suggestion, perhaps two part-time drivers would be better than a full time driver, one for the morning and one for the evening. Everyone on this site is supporting your efforts.

This family (with 3 young children) has so much going on that they really need someone else to ‘step up’ and take on Ms Red and Ms Violet. I love all they do but I wonder if Rodney’s job could be job-shared, ie am shift, pm shift?
@@gotessasnap1 I don’t think anyone besides Luke is qualified to drive the van. They need a special license. They are going to have to hire from outside and then train them. It’s more than just picking up the dogs and dropping them off. They have to build a trust with the dogs (and the owners), too. And then there is the maintenance on the van. Rodney used to take care of that, too. Plus there are the odd hours.

I had to watch this again this morning. What I noticed was the confidence that Freddo exhibits. There is a pride when he is playing that says look at me, you can change and become one of the pack leaders. There is a gentleness about him now but you know he is not going to be pushed around! He is one of your many success stories that you should be very proud of. You should be proud of all the successes you have had with the rescue dogs. They now have a chance for a wonderful life and you all have done this for them! Thank you!

So sad to see Rodney leaving, I know how he feels, I totally understand him, I was a nurse my husband was working away only saw him every other weekends sometimes not even for a month because of his job. The children were working away, I filled my time by working 14hour nursing shifts day in day out. Up at 6am not getting home maybe 11 pm at night. I chose to do that, but it's totally different when you have a family at home, Rodney best wishes for the future but I will miss you not being on the bus, But the other side of the coin Luke might post videos of his trips into Sydney really enjoyed those times when we saw Sydney and the excitement of the dogs when they boarded the bus. Just love you all.xx

Luke and Sam you are totally amazing how you hit hurdles and jump over them with a positive spin on it. It is the only way. You can see how this work as all the dogs feed off all this positivity and are all happy and you then benefit from their happiness. All the dogs just worship the ground you walk on and you can see why you do what you do. Sorry to her Rodney going and I am sure he will be happy in his new job and I look forward to seeing his replacement as I am sure someone else will love this job. Love how the new Fab Four are starting to join in the pack. If I were closer I would love to have Mr Red I can't believe these puppies are still waiting for their forever homes but I am sure the Special homes are just around the corner. xxx
As I was watching this clip I wondered whether Dylan could potentially teach the new puppies that come into the farm program some sign language which would make them adoptable to a wider population as they would already know some of the basics for people who were hearing impaired.
