A show of Billy Football trying different obscure sports like the old travel channel show with Dhani Jones would be some of the best content Barstool has come out with
I clicked on this and was genuinely worried for anyone in Billy's path. And I hope Billy doesn't catch any charges, aggravated assault with deadly weapons, aka them handss boyyyyy
The Billy saying "this isn't a joke to them" might be the funniest unintentional joke he's ever told. The way he's giggling while saying that I'm fucking done lmao
To clear some things and add context to people unfamiliar with Handball: 1. Actual handball is NOT played on grass fields. It's on closed indoor courts, you need the surface grip to properly make use of 90% of the skillsets required in any serious competitive environment. Also gives much needed consistency to the grip of the ball - which diminishes quickly on grass fields even after just 1 pass with a ground hit or a dribble. Grass fields is something I've only seen in the US, doesn't exist anywhere where the sport is played competitively. 2. No, a team of quarterbacks could not do anything even in a low 5th division league of international Handball - let alone the Olympics. The time they would need to practice skill and team work would put them all in their 40'ies or 50'ies before they got it all nailed down, and at that point they would be 20 years past their prime. Handball is one of the most played sports in the world at the highest competitive level, only surpassed really by Football (soccer). The level required to even pass high school tiers of play is immense. And it's not just about having the physique and being able to throw a ball. It's about understanding all the rules, the tactics, the tempo and flow over 2x30 minutes with zero breaks. It's about reading opponent moves and tactics, predicting their plays.. Oh yeah, and you need a keeper who can reliably defend against 80+ mph throws with less reaction time than an F1 driver. Good luck getting that from a quarterback with no experience. 3. It's a very fast paced game with constant back-and-forth play. You attack, you defend, you counter. You need players with speed that rivals pro runners, players who can hold their own in a defense like Rugby players, players who can act as playmakers and ensure everyone is on the same page. And you need to know exactly where the limits are, because it is a physical contact sport where people will be right on that edge to keep you down and prevent you from scoring, but if you overstep that line, you get sent off and your team will play at a major disadvantage for 2 minutes with 1 less player and a big defensive and offensive gap to fill.
Handball has 2 roots. 1) A older outdoor 'field handball' variant, developed in Germany in the 1920s or so, played on grass soccer fields in the soccer summer off season. 2) The indoor variant on the smaller 20x40m field invented a bit later in Scandinavia, where lots of snow makes playing outdoors hard for 9 months of the year. After 1950, many clubs in Europe played outdoors on the big field in summer, indoors in winter. Around the 1970s, the faster indoor game became vastly more popular (esp with TV audiences, which is where the money was), so field handball became largely extinct. However, lots of pre-season invitational tournaments are still played outside in summer in Europe, because -it's fun -you can fit 4 small handball fields onto a soccer field and thus have 4 games in parallel, which speeds things up a lot when you have 16 or 32 teams playing for a cup. Most towns actually have 2 soccer fields, one for practice, one for games, so you can fit up to 8 handball fields in there, if needed. I my home town we have a yearly tournament with youth teams playing FRI+SAT, women on SAT and Men on Sunday...
No he wasn’t actually. His moves are smooth and not half bad yes they were nice but he’s far from mastering the sport. Coming from a handball goalie that plays for more than 6 years
@@rebeka_jerala164 yea he's pretty much at the level any newbie with a bit of athletic tendency would be at. Really nothing major on display here, and US handball is already very low bar to reach.

Men's World Championship in Handball starts tomorrow, January 11th. USA will facing Croatia in their second game of the group stage on the 15th of Jan. Let's see how they manage against a European opponent, a team that ended up 15th in the last World Championship. A country with a population of about 330 mil people have a great potential but, let's see how it develops in the years to come. Great sport if you watch the real thing and not "this thing", whatever the Americans believe it is, in the video above. Bless them!

About the physicality in handball: The ice-hockey team in my town (northern Sweden) discarded handball as physical game for training-purposes - since they didn't know how play right, they didn't know how to be physical right. To be physical in handball you need to know how to do it properly, it's not allowed to just smash an opponent or plain body-slam one, it has to be done right...

In Jr high we had an "alternative sports"class you could do instead of PE. Someone's dad was a USA Olympic handball player and came and taught us handball! It was awesome but yeah it kinda does feel like a game invented for 3rd grade PE. It is REALLY fun though!
I'm from the town where Handball was invented. I've never ever seen it played on grass! I'm not sure you can even call it handball 🤔 And here's why: Soccer became SO popular towards the end of 19th cent., a PE teacher found that the boys wanted to play it ALL the time. But when the field freezes in the winter, it's very dangerous for your ancles to run on. So the PE teacher put some thought into it, and came up with a proto version of an INDOOR ball game. A PE teacher from an other town "sophisticated the rules" and we've loved it ever since. More boring historic facts: The gym hall they first played it in was build in 1750, as in exercise room for the garnision, on top of a town gate (Landporten), dating back to mid 16th century. Weird handball fact: The Norwegian and the Danish women's national teams have a unic Olympic record from Sidney, 2000: The first two counties to have a married couple playing AGAINST each other in a final!
