    I refuse to be sad or apologize if I'm no longer attracted to some plants I liked years ago. I give away or sell. And like you said, once they are gone, it's like you can take a deep breath of fresh air. It's okay to be "DONE" 😉I only have one philodendron left....Jungle boogie 😊

    I honestly don't think I have ever regretted giving away or tossing a plant. I agree that I usually feel relief to be rid of it. I started to get swayed by philodendrons when I got back into the plant hobby, but quickly realized that they are not for me. I don't want to deal with moss poles or plants that I have to chop up all the time. Just not my thing. Hoyas, on the other hand . . . well, that is a whole other story. Haha

      Same! After a year and some months of owning houseplants I've learned that I love Alocasias and anything in a hanging basket a lot! Was not sad to chuck my Calathea and Diffenbachia out! I've learned to avoid monsteras too. So beautiful, but too big and clunky for me.

    Omg i would snap your hand off for the variegated giganteum if I lived in London, it's been on my wishlist for a while! I've been planning on what I can get rid of too, I have a bunch of plants i now refer to as 'the plants I'm looking after for strangers' because in my mind they're aaaall leaving my care at the plant swap!

    All of these philodendrons require moss poles to size up. Before you ditch the Tortum, but it on a pole. Mine is sizing up, and it’s turning into my favorite plant!

    I’m not completely over philodendrons but I do understand the overwhelming feeling from having plants I no longer love. I have given away so many plants and once I did I felt so much relief. There’s no point in keeping plants that no longer bring you joy.

    I understand getting bored with certain plants, especially if they aren't performing as you'd hope. Purging is more common than a lot of people care to admit. I do think, for some people, the accessibility to so many once hard to find plants has made collectors want to "trade up" to new and rarer plants (that come with the higher price tag), hence the recent trend of youtubers filing their cabinets with young anthurium hybrids, which in my opinion, all start to look alike. Mixing genus' keeps a collection interesting, which is part of the reason I appreciate your channel.

    I adore philos, but you do you, grow what you love!
    Philos and begonias are my favourites...actually all the plants are my favourites lol...
    The tortum is a bugger though, hard to deal with, and the reverted islemanii...but the holtonianum - eep that's a very cool plant! Can't pay for your airfare to Australia and the 6 months of quarrantine for it though...🤣🤣🤣 that definitely needs a pole, warmth, light humidity...it would be a much cooler plant with those things, hopefully someone will pick it up and give it that! :)

    If its not making you happy when it puts out a new leaf, if it's more stressful to take care of than to get rid of, I'm with you 100%. Put your time and care into the ones that you love! I'm down to 2 crawlers- 1 zebra gloriosum and 1 sp. columbia platinum that I'm trying to convince to like poles instead. We'll see how it goes...

    I just stuck all of my anthuriums and Alocasia outside. Also any philodendron that got too big or I didn’t want to mess with. There are some expensive plants out there. 😆 Give them away, put them outside, move them ON. 💚

    For me it is Syngoniums and Hoyas which are prone in my area of the world to massive infestation of mealy bugs. But I do still love philos, I just have very few of them, mostly pendant ones which I adore. It is better to keep that which you love and can grow well.

    I litteraly just got into plant parenting a few months ago. At the beginning I was just bying all of the plants i saw, and now I am allready purging the first 8 plants that I am not feeling anymore. Sorry, not sorry 🤷🏻‍♀️ I got the Birkin for 30DKR wich is around 3 GBP. I did not really love it at the beginning but it has grown beautifully with the summer and the right amount of fertiliser. I also got 2 smaller silver sword for 30DKR each, wich would be around 6GBP. I LOVE Them. I have the tortum on my wishlist. 😍

    I still love philodendron. Maybe it’s because I’ve only recently figured out what kind of moss pole works for me and I’m looking forward to getting my faves to grow big. I love the experimental aspects of plant keeping and I feel like philos give me that with the moss poles. I love the way their leaves matamorphosize as they grow large. My goal has never been to collect all the varieties of a specific plant genus. I only get the ones I’m drawn to. I have about 15 different species of philos right now and I can’t really think of anymore that I want. So I wouldn’t say I’m over them I just have the ones I want and I’m not looking for more at the moment. (Maybe one day I’ll get a whipple way or a variegated Islemanii for a decent price) I’m currently obsessed with collecting more Hoya and begonia.

    I think the first no id philodendron is a holtonianum and I think you also got that in your rare plant shop rescue box....that's where my one came from at least 😂😂 I've not given up on mine yet but I'm close... it's so slow to grow and mature even on a moss pole. I definitely could give mine better conditions but I'm not sure I like it enough to do that.

    My big issue with philodendron is that most drop leaves really fast if they go too long without water and then you have to rehab/propagate them to get them back to looking nice. It's a lot of work for someone as forgetful as me!

    Hey Emma, I'm thinking of the same thing, getting rid of plants that dont do it for me anymore...thanks for the motivation. Also, the Philo at 16:00 looks like a Green Congo. I am adding my Birkin to my list cos Ive completely fallen outa love with it even though it's finally starting to push out lots of leaves. I might just take that one out to my front garden so that I can still enjoy it but not have to do much for it. I'm also over the pink, white princesses as well as the Wizard. I still have a few philodendrons (11/120 plants) and I love the ones I have but don’t think I’ll be adding any more besides some “rare” ones that I’m waiting to come down in price. I also feel like my love for philos is that fading which isn’t to say they aren’t great but just been into Hoya and anthurium more (which is what is trending I guess). But I think also into other plants I wasn’t into before like pings and codex. I know I’ll come back to them. Sometimes I feel like my love for types of plants are like crushes that fade then come back 😂

I want to love every single one, and if I don’t love it I don’t get it. I don’t want to waist time and money lol. There are some people are obsessed with that I just don’t vibe with, or vice versa. And that is totally fine! Love what you love! I don't understand the obsession with plant families personally. That being said - if it doesn't bring you joy, get rid of it. There's no point in keeping things around that you don't enjoy -- and this goes beyond just plants. There is absolutely no reason to feel bad about it, at all.

    Is that because they don't perform well? One or two mature leaves with bunch of young leaves with every freakin nodes are activated in one plant is common Philodendron TC plant problem (So far many anthuriums sellers are growing from the seeds so they never gave me a problem but i think this will be a problem soon cause Anthurium is becoming a trend recently and people will create TC then going through pollination). I put a moss pole and they climb fine but the plant can't really put their full energy into pushing a bigger, lush mature leaves instead those tiny nodes with bunch of tiny leaves.....Not all Philodenron plants do this but I hate when that happens.

    Do you have a variegated cast iron plant? I can't remember but I just ordered some rhizomes, any advice?

    Ya know it be cool if you could donate them to a local college. I'm not into plants that climb and need poles I feel they need to be outside to do what they were designed for. I'm not a indoor Monstera girl put them on a t-shirt or jewelry I will wear them all day but in my home no I just cannot have a plant that large and wild it's sort of like keeping a elephant or a Great dane in a tiny home you just have to put yourself first.

    I really need to downsize too 😅😅 getting close to 200 & I have no space 😂

    If it needs a pole, no no not going into my collection. And as for letting go of plants you fall out of love with , I think it is healthy. Out tastes change and I refuse to feel guilt about downsizing . I have 3 large philos left and will not be buying more. They get huge and need a lot of space. So I say go girl, it is just a plant. ❤️

    I've been over Philodendrons for a while now; too much sprawl and just boring to me 😂. Have only 3 left in my collection not in mini-closed terrariums. And considering giving 2 of 3 away at next swap 😅.
    P.S. It may help to set numbers goals per year. Mine this year is 70 and I currently have 68. Forces you to do take one in/take one out and let's the overwhelm.😊

    I let a fussy philodendron Brazil, even with the pretty variegation, die. I have a heart leaf one that is enough for me. I get it. 😄

    Definitely not into philodendrons anymore- each year I have had thrips on them. If I dont love them anymore or they dont like my environment- I am not keeping them. I like to grow my plants large so why would I waste valuable space with plants that give me more stress than joy😅

    I have an honest question. What is the meaning of the word "alas"? You said this so much, but i never heard from any other english speaker and the internet can't help

    • @1faithchick7
      @1faithchick7 5 месяцев назад +1

      The dictionary says it is "an expression of grief, pity, or concern."
      "alas, my funds have some limitations"
      So basically the same as saying "sadly".
      "Alas I am just not feeling up to eating out tonight anymore"
      "Sadley I am just not feeling up to eating out tonight anymore"

    What is self heading?

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  5 месяцев назад

      self-heading philodendrons have leaves spaced so close together that the stem is not visible until some of the lower, older leaves fall off
