I'm really appreciating your guidance on Chinese dramas! As a newbie to Chinese drama series (I'm from Scotland) I don't think I previously understood the sheer volume of dramas being made in China, and the length of most of them in hours of watching. I watched a few of the palace dramas last year and thought they must be unusual in length, then The Untamed, Word of Honour, Fairy & Devil and several others and now yeah, I've got subscriptions to iQiYu etc and I can't keep up. So to be told, from an insider perspective like your's, what is worth watching and what is less so, is very, very helpful. Thank you!
in my decades of watching chinese dramas I actually had problem with the long continuous series of recent years. I'm used to the 20-40 episodes, unless it's an anthology series.
Same here, I'm so eager to watch Chinese dramas, good ones, but I don't have the time to find out whether they are good or not myself😂 It's an amazing job Avenuex is doing.
Welcome down the rabbit whole. Another European here that had the same experience. And now I am hooked. Even though the quality of the dramas vary in quality there are so many to choose from! Kdramas are also worth the watch if you haven't tried those already. Viki is also another good streaming service.

Just finished From Repair to Pair, watching Forbidden marriage, Again My Life, Unchained Love, The Blood of Youth, gonna start Choice Husband right now and rewatching Imperial Coroner with my sweetie - he will also love the short animation stories your recommended.

I'm loving all the characters in The Blood of Youth it has the best friendship/bromance drama since WoH. Especially the brotherhood of Ao Rui Peng and Li Hong Yi they're always for each other ❤️

The last wuxia I enjoyed was WoH and before that The Untamed. I dropped SSS because it's boring and have dull costumes and martial arts.
I absolutely love Blood of Youth. I feel like you can ship almost any character with almost any other character. And I've never seen Ao Rui Peng in anything before, but I'm absolutely loving his himbo energy 😆
I first saw Ao Rui Peng in Poisoned Love and got interesting in his acting. I have been watching for his new dramas. I think he's a newbie.
Blood of Youth is so awesome made me who's not a wuxia fan to to follow a wuxia drama and I love both Ao Rui Peng and Li Hong Yi. Where can I watch their special variety show that Youku made for them for free anyone knows?
@@laylaisabel7183 On Youku's platform, website or app, there are short videos of the three main male lead actors doing challenges and such together. I don't think one needs a VIP membership to watch those. The way Youku classifies these videos might make them harder to find - sometimes right on the homepage scrolling down a bit while other times, nowhere or among a series of unrelated short videos.
Blood of Youth have so many boys friendship its the closest to BL we can get! Exactly you can ship anyone! I love Ao Rui Peng the most too he has an adorable energy! He was in A Female Student Come to College before but that show was super trash with bad acting, bad plot everything bad I didn't even recognize him

Blood of Youth is a great wuxia drama! I never watch wuxia normally only watch xianxia drama and donghua but Blood of Youth made me chase both drama and donghua!
You're enjoying Blood of Youth because it's the best classic wuxia in the past 20-30 years! The CGI fighting scenes are fabulous and it also has many cute boys with cool characters and close friendship it's the closest to BL we can get!

I grew up watching wuxia dramas way back since the golden days of TVB and TBoY is not a classic wuxia drama and far from being the best even in recent years. It’s more to fantasy wuxia which I also like but maybe(I’m not sure), why I like it so much is that the characters have chemistry and they’re all so pretty…

Are you going to make a review on Blood of Youth? It's the best classic wuxia! It has humor, friendship and cool characters and the fighting scenes are magnificent with beautiful CGI! ! I rate it higher and better than Snow Sword Stride.

Zhongguo Qi Tan anime first 3 episodes are all tales of yokai. First ep is based on 1 chapter of the 100 chapter Journey to the West. The monkey king, pigsy and sandy are considered to be good yokai. Before the novel Journey To The West was written, I heard the monkey king was already being worshipped. In current time, there are statues of the monkey king in some temples. Yokai who are worshipped are gods or in japanese called Kami.

if have time, maybe can discuss more china anime which are sometimes quite similar to dramas, and some voice actors probably work for both dramas and anime.

omg i still hadnt get around to reading Three body problem.... i need to read it first to make my own opinions, before i watch the adaptations
The Three Body Problem animated series was such a let down, was really looking foward to it because I relly love Ling Cage.
So far the Tencent drama adaptation stay true to the source material, definitely way better than the animated series.
Also I really love YAO - Chinese Folktales, I hope more people can watch this show!

Knockout is about the communist dictators of 1 province fighting gangs and some communist dictators who protect gangs. Chinese title seems to mean knockout force. It is similar to In The Name Of People which I did manage to finish. Main actor plays a cop in both Be Reborn and in this drama. Ep 2 to ep 12 goes back to 10 years ago and depict the close relationship of the cop and a fish seller who later became a gang boss. Some actors from In The Name Of People are in this drama also. Hard to keep track of the communist dictators hierarchy in the province bec just too many of them (they should probably try to flatten the organization and get rid of those doing nothing). All I know is the dictator at the top is like an emperor. Hard to get rid of gangs bec like in japan, the yakuza seems to be already part of the culture and also part of the political institutions.
Choice Husband is actually not bad story wise; it’s problem is with its pacing and I think it would’ve been better had it not follow the novel too closely.
Knock-out is quite impressive with its earlier episodes with its crisp pacing and story telling. There’s not a dull moment in the drama and needless to say, the acting is good.

Choice Husband is bad and boring. If you have extra time please watch Blood of Youth, this one is a great drama with great wuxia and excellent acting
@@laylaisabel7183 I was watching it and I dropped it. Now that Three Body is on, I’ll probably dropped Choice Husband as well, until I have time to catch up. But with more dramas coming up, I probably won’t be returning to either of these drama.
For reasons unaware to my conscious mind, "traditional" Chinese animation styles, or whatever they are, cause my mind to reflexively lose any desire to watch.
Tencent is airing a two male lead short-video fantasy drama, about 7 min per ep. I watched 15 eps. Kind of interested in the male leads past lives but each chapter's main story felt like "I learned something" after school special. Have not decided whether to keep watching.
Despite fear that ban on new BL adaptated donghuas/dramas might lead to platonic two/multi male leads donghuas/dramas disappearing, a few such adaptations, new or continuing, have recently aired. Good for me. I've long "outgrown" anything that twists itself out of shape for the sake of "love and romance".
Did somebody mention torturing a male lead? OK. That's on my list to watch out for. It's OK. I've already been in therapy.

HEllo, i would like to ask a question here to all who love C-drama and Kdrama: what are the good costume/historical/fantasy drama of this year. i taste run towards political intrigue/investigation. i dont mind a bit of romance, but i dislike when it is the main thign of the story. liek so many here, there is SO MUCH beign release all the time... i get lost very easily,. and i dont have much time to listen... so, i try to aim for those i will like the most. thank you
Three Body Problem book 1 novel starts in the 1960s cultural revolution (started in 1966) when the communist dictators persecuted educated people and closed down the universities to try to turn most chinese into farmers in communes. The drama Like A Flowing River depicts the resumption of colleges and college entrance exam in 1977, after dictator deng won the power struggle and switched china to state capitalism. Drama starts in 1979 northeast china with a female astrophysicist who is depressed bec her father was executed in the 1960s persecution and bec her project destroyed a forest, so she replies to aliens from another planet to cause human extinction. In 2007, a secret organization is causing quantum field physicists to commit suicide and the international coalition china branch invites a beijing nano engineer to help them infiltrate the secret organization. The anime is set in the future that has robot delivery guys walking the streets and the world already knows about the fight against the aliens, and seems to be covering book 2 Dark Forest. The anti alien coalition invites a sociologist to join in the fight against the aliens. Book 3 Death's End has a different heroine. Three Body drama shows plenty of the inevitable environmental damages from overpopulation and overconsumption so it should be avoided by those prone to depression.

I know a lot of Cdrama fandom will tell me off, 不喜歡就不要看。 But l must say why Kdrama still kept it in line, reasonable in every aspect. Why they are in international market in Netflix. We are in film industry, not in beauty pageants. C drama actors美容成東方的西方美人，男女一致，some of them almost all look alike. 😂
yao chinese folktales (Zhongguo Qi Tan, chinese strange tales) is probably similar to the anime Folktales From Japan. Yao guai is yokai in japanese.

Choice Husband is soooo good! It's the best of the period dramas i've seen so far. Blood of Youth is good but it leaves me cold and the plot isn't important to me. Choice Husband has everything. A plot that drags you in, good script, good acting, an evil queen dowager. I didn't have much hope for it in the first three episodes but i think this is at least a 1.5 gold mine, maybe even a two if it sticks the landing.
You have so many dramas to catch up. I am barely interested in anything. I started Blood of Youth, Hi Venus, and Meet Myself, but stop cause I got bored. I have a lot of times but have nothing going. The only thing I am still interested in is the Candy Crush game.
If look at the blood of youth anime and prequel anime, it is obvious that the main target audience are male youths, so it is understandable that some females might skip this drama. Blood Of Youth animes have similar target audience as shonen manga and anime.
Not true many females are watching this show and having a crush on Ao Rui Peng ❤️❤️
I just checked out Choice Husband and couldn't last the first episode. I suggest everyone not to watch and waste your time. Bad drama.

Blood of Youth is annoying. I like some of the things they're doing and the disgraced prince is cute. But the costumes are real ugly and they don't even have power creep - every single character is like god tier powered from the beginning.
Meh, I prefer low level wuxia.
Low wuxia project has been harder and harder to do. Blood of Youth has a prequel. The script is done. The feedback about the project is positive. But, as the author-scriptwriter posted, the project has difficulty signing actors - good-looking , young and willing to do the exhausting work of high wuxia-low xianxia for low pay - not even new art/drama school graduates. Blood of Youth young main cast don't look like they could proficiently ride horses. Low wuxia should be much less attractive to young people.
Apparently, there is a chasm between actors who choose stage dramas and those who want to be on screen. A new actor needs a very thick skin to withstand all the nastiness for being on screen. Thus, the pool of willing actors might be much smaller than expected.

@@JanPospisilArt Good ol' days, actors were trained in fight choreography before filming begins. (US films and some TV shows still make cast do that.) Blood of Youth young cast were not much trained ahead of time but were supposedly quite obedient about following fight director's instructions. Still, plenty of complaints about them not being good-looking enough or simply outright ugly, especially the venom spewed on that young actress who portrayed SiKong Qian Luo. An exhausting low-paying job that brings oneself much online hate... Worth it?
Issue here is somehow too many cdrama viewers have developed a narrow dichotomy - proper drama vs idol drama. Such audience expectation also limits choices in lead casting.
I heard the director of Blood of Youth have invited many popular young actors but none of them want to do Li Hongyi character. Most young actors now only want to shoot easy idol dramas!
Disagree the costumes for Blood of Youth are great have wonderful colours. I avoid most wuxia because they either have dark boring costumes or bad hairstyles or both, only WoH and Blood of Youth I can watch because they have striking costumes and great brotherhood chenistry
