    Evening Stuart. I just picked up your post on Facebook on the Epic Naps page you very kindly set up for those of us that appreciate what you do for us hobbiests. I felt it inappropriate to cause a stir on the Facebook page, but I just wanted to let you and Ken know that the previews you've done for the whole of this new venture of Black Powder Epic Napoleonics, I for one am thoroughly enjoying and the insight you two chaps bring to the hobby. I've looked forward to everyone of those videos. I've also enjoyed your ACW series and you keep up the great work. As an ex military man myself my advice for what it's worth, ignore stupid ignorant idiots with a dopey opinion. If they can't appreciate what you chaps are doing then to hell with them. As usual keyboard warriors that are full of it. Keep up the great work and I for one can't wait for more videos of insight into Epic Napoleonics from both you chaps. Take care and keep the faith.

      Thank you Bill, I’m a very lucky man to have these, I will make sure I do lots of painting content to keep everyone ‘entertained’ while we all wait for our order.
      Hopefully you manage to get hold of a couple of mags for a sprue of each. There will be plenty on eBay as well as many subscribers just won’t be interested, they were not all that expensive with the ACW last year either. 3 mags is cheaper than a brigade box, so it’s almost worth picking extras up if you can.

    Very impressed with the quality of these, and thank you for sharing as ever. They look excellent, and what really stands out to me most of all is the quality of the horse sculpts. This is shaping up nicely. Thanks for the review. Have taken both Brit and French at Deluxe pre order level so I am in for a lot of work building and painting. At this scale and sadly at my age these are going to be less of a detailed paint job I think and I have bought in for both the massed ranks visual appeal and the game itself. I cannot lie however. Whilst I will be building these and collecting more ongoing the rumour of a possible next year release of ECW has me very excited. The quality of these figures at such a small scale is great considering the little lumps it used to be. It does raise the problem that rivet counters for tthis era will now not be wrong in moaning about incorrect kit and uniforms so maybe the hope a bit of paint will cover the gaps will not fly.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 года назад +3

      I think a simple ‘2 ft away’ kind of paint job will work just fine on these, it’s definitely a sensible way to get them on the table quickly, but there’s also enough detail for those wanting to take more time. The button counters won’t like this release no matter what, the people who get annoyed by this are the ones who get annoyed by Warlord in general anyway. I don’t get it personally, if a company makes something I don’t like I don’t buy it/give it much attention, especially when there’s so many alternatives out there.
      Epic ECW will be very exciting, I’m looking forward to getting into that as well when/if it arrives.

    Nice review, my British starter box set order is in. I’m going to hold off on the French and buildings until I’ve got the British/Dutch (and later Highland and Prussian sprues) to where I want them to be; my mate is starting with the French. I’m really interested in how to paint the line 95th into something else.
    I’m reading Bernard Cornwall’s Waterloo book at the moment - it’s an enjoyable intro and is certainly pitched at a canter - and think my units will be based around Picton’s formations around Le Haye Sainte.
    Looking forward to the painting guides but I’ll be looking to achieve tabletop standard with contrast paints.
    I’m on track to finish 20 regiments (14 completed so far) of ACW Union by end of December so the painting table will be clear and ready 🤞

    The busby hat hussars are a nice way to differentiate some units as Kings German Legion, not sure about others but epic scale cavalry is the game changer for me, 28mm cavalry is no joke to paint and often feels the least immersive part of the battlefield since there are so few on a base. 30 charging hussars certainly leaves a greater impression than 12.

    A very interesting and enthusiastic presentation; it would have been improved by filming the Initial review of the sprues against a plain background and maybe with a few close-ups? Sorry to appear fussy, but anyone with less than perfect eyesight, like me for example, will have struggled to see the detail you were describing.

    Nice review, a great scoop for the channel.
    I'm not sure I get some of the negativity with the game and miniatures, compromises always need to be made with any game. What I enjoy about playing in a historical setting is the whole "what if" aspect, for that reason maybe there are more rifles than were present at Waterloo because fewer loses were made in the previous weeks/ months.
    Personally I'm a bigger fan of the Peninsula campaign, but there would have been more countries represented at Waterloo, and it's a more recognisable settings to the person looking at the setting for the first time

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 года назад

      Thank you, I’m very lucky to have them, and definitely great for the channel.
      I’m totally with you on the negativity, I hate it in Wargaming, we’re so lucky to have a healthy pastime/hobby that we can all share, and some people seem to get so angry about the silliest things. There’s so much choice out there, if I don’t like something I just tend to ignore it and not give it any time. Nothing wrong with giving a fair review if something isn’t that good, or challenging the price etc, but some of the loudest negative voices tend to be people who have no intention of buying or playing something they’re moaning about 🤷‍♂️.
      I love the Peninsula, my own project will likely focus on that a bit, albeit with not as many Stovepipe shakos that I’d like.

      @@MiniatureRealms - Waterloo is such a natural place to start Napoleonic gaming, especially if you’re British. There’s the 1969 film for starters, and lots of cheap books on the campaign available second hand.
      I got into historical gaming through Airfix models at a very young age, but it was their Waterloo range that really started me off onto proper gaming with rules that actually worked to create something vaguely similarly to reality.

    great review!thinking about taking the plunge with the british, but would the provided bases be good enogh for the Lasalle game system?My friends are almost exclusively playing Lasalle, and the strip of the line regiments concerns me in regards to whether i have to cut the strips into smaller parts in order to accomodate them on different bases.

      Thank you. I’ll have to admit I’m not familiar with the basing system for Lasalle, these strips fit on 60mm wide bases. I’ve seen quite a lot of Epic ACW strips cut down to half sizes, but I feel the way the Napoleonic ones are sculpted that it would be much harder.

    I'm a novice wargamer and painter, am wondering if anyone else is considering using a coloured primer and some basic detailing to get the starter sets onto the table relatively quickly. I'm also considering trying contrast paints.
    I'd rather not spend months painting but perhaps could add a few more detailed front ranks later if I dont fully decorate the bases. If anyone has some handy batch painting tips I'd appreciate any advice. Great video and subbed

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 года назад +1

      Coloured primers can certainly be a very quick way of getting these armies on the table, add in as much detail as you’d like after then a wash and you’re good to go. Making sure you do the basing after goes a really long way to making them look great on the table. In many ways high level painting with with unpainted bases look worse than basic ones with nice tidy bases with a bit of texture and flock/tufts.
