Hi, this series is really interesting! Puts all the translated Korean bookstore section into perspective... a common thread through multiple books and authors explored and very good for chosing what to read when you like a certain book. I've read Dallergut Dream Department Store and Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop already (the latter being a recent favourite), looking forward to the others. Thanks :)

@@seoulbookclubbarrywelsh i was wondering if i could ask a question:
(what i probably should do is read more to discover the answer myself)
I've read Kim Jiyoung born 1982 and the vegetarian by Cho Nam-Joo and Han Kang. I noticed that in both the female protagonist is sick, or better: "sick". But in a way that moves away from them as an individual and more as a pars pro toto for 'women'. And the individual woman isn't "sick" but more that woman are made sick by society.
I only read these 2 books that are possibly part of a wave of korean feminist literature (would you agree with grouping them together in this genre, or do you think it is too easy and dismisses nuances), and deriving a trend from 2 is not best practice. I was wondering if you could confirm this as a motif in this genre, or if it is more "coincidence" that i just read the 2 that use this imagery.
(also in general i have read maybe 5-ish korean books so not a lot!)
      thanks!

Thank you so much for the lovely recommendation once again! I always appreciate your thoughtful suggestions. I have a keen interest in exploring more Korean literature, but I often find myself feeling a bit overwhelmed by the choices available. As a selective reader, it can be challenging to determine which book would be the best fit for my taste. I tend to enjoy only a few select books that truly resonate with me.
