You should check out the Mafell Tracksaw. You can connect two tracks without straight edge , one 18v battery (Cordless Alliance, so metabo battery's), better dust extraction and faster blade change.
It's hard justifying a Festool purchase. But when I buy them and use them it's so nice to use. My track saw is 12 years old and used a lot in the shop and the site for ripping. Great for ripping hardwood boards to get one side straight so I can dimension the board on the table saw. Much easier this way.
I have the Festool HKC 55 EB 18v. Track is attached to saw, great for framing. If you don’t have the bluetooth batteries You can always just turn the vac on.
I have both the corded and cordless makitas. only real difference is the corded saw will rip solid timber with less wining about it. also the cordless takes a super thin kerf blade, so if your using two saws on the same tracks, the rubber will be off slightly
Nice comparo! We're so spoilt by the variety of tools available these days! Gotta love technology. I still rock a true cordless hand saw from time to time. No batteries, no cord, no vacuum. The way it works the hell out of my right bicep, no gym membership needed 😂😂 #Respect for the nation builders who did all the work by hand back in the day!!
If your track saw grabs then the blade is probably misaligned. My makita was. After adjusting the shoe plate never grabbed again and the cut was a lot cleaner.
You can get a Bluetooth remote for the festool vac wrap it around the hose where it plugs into the tool, I’ve just got the vac and have the Makita tracksaw. I’ve also got the small Makita brushless 18v dust extractor, thanks for sharing lads
The Festool Bluetooth sender to activate the Vacuum is on the Batteries. So you must have had Batteries without Bluetooth. Or you don’t have a Bluetooth receiver in your Vacuum. For your Festool Vacuum there is a receiver available. I have it on my older Festool CTL36EAC as well. 😉
I have cordless festool... with bluetooth battery and ctm midi 2019 version.. with bluetooth dongle. So i can also hook it up to my cordless dewalt saw 🤪
And also the makita track saw runs a thinner blade to compensate for less power, we found that out the hard way cutting beams and had the blade wonder into our rail ! Didn’t have the problem with the festool but we were pushing the limits of the saws with what we were cutting so....
Though more expensive, the Mafell MT55 is superior to both and has an easier and more accurate track joining system. I had the Festool and enjoyed using it but returned it after trying a friend's Mafell.
I was working on a project when you posted this video. Fumbling with a straight edge and circular saw, Finally had enough of it and ordered the makita track saw! Got one in the mail on the way. Can't wait!!
Have the Makita cordless & absolutely love it. They do need to sell replacement rubber for the tracks as blade changes often sees the new blade sitting slightly different to the previous one & the rubber ends up too trimmed.
They definitely do sell replacement rubbers, just need to shop around online where you are. I'm in the UK and they are quite easy to find, hopefully the part number is the same where you are: 423360-7 www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Makita-423360-7-Rubber-Guide-Rail-Splinter-Guard-3m-SP6000-/181717733435
It's a miserable Sunday here in the UK, this video fare cheered me up. I think were going to stick with the makita system, like you said its expensive changing to another platform. Good to see Cameron.
Aw mann Shout outs Kameron and that beast Hikoki at the end. Just seeing that now. Formwork guys are the toughest guys, I'm saying it now and I've been saying it all along!
Hi there! I don't see the benefit of a cordless tool, if you also hook it up to a vac. I love the Makita tracks and have a TS-55 myself. The riving knife was the reason for me. Sadly often underrated in its usefulness. I would tend to buy a Makita skill saw as I am also in the Makita system already. By the way: Wouldn't a crosscutting guide rail as a FSK 420 be useful for your work as a carpenter? Regards, Etna.
I also have the TS-55 and 75, I agree with you, don't see the need to cordless if you are hooking it to a vacuum, just plug it in and set to auto, no bluetooth to worry about. I actually just sold off my FSK/HK set up. Found I only really liked it for cutting stair stringers. Otherwise I have multiple mitre saw sizes I would rather use for cross cuts.It ended up being another tool I had to carry around but didn't use.
Fair enough. I haven't used those tracks myself and was just wondering. In Germany it seems to be the case that without such a saw by Mafell you're not a real carpenter. Too expensive for me but everyone building a terrace seems to use them. I would just use my plunge saw with my DIY crosscut track. But hey, I don't this work so often.
At that price point I chose mafel mt 55c corded version. Best tracks ever, high torque cuprex motor, quiet enough considering its a saw, 0 dust when used with vacuum(this was the first thing I had tested, in the house on carpet under very bright led light, couldnt see or taste any dust ☺ and that was with crap shop vac), sturdy and stable clamps very fast to set (not needed for most jobs as tracks wont slip even on high gloss materials), very quick bewel set one lever only for both sides that goes -1° to 48°, etc... I was suspicious about lack of second handle, now I understand why it isnt needed. Can use it on other tracks like makita and festool if needed. Or I would have went for makita, couldnt justify the price of festool with ther low quality underpowered motors.

I have that makita cordless track saw and it has been faultless. One word of warning I have a 3m makita track and a 1.4 festool track and need to adjust the cams on the track saw to sit snugly every time I swap. Pretty minor but can get irritating real fast.
A point to be made is the full setup up with saw, rail, two or more batteries and charger is actually cheaper with festool... or atleast it was last I checked !
I find that hard to believe. I purchased the Makita cordless, 2 - 55" rails, and 4 batteries for less than the Festool corded with one 55" rail. I added the Makita 39" rail which tipped me $20 over the Festool corded with the one rail. Note that I did not buy the bluetooth model. Instead I use a simple remote control outlet with the remote attached to my saw. An extra button push but it has worked well.
37 years old and I'm starting to geek out over joinery work ......been in the game for 20 years as wel🤣l. Good video mate. I'm all makita so I think ill go for the makita rail saw, makes sense . 👍🏾
Mikita works great. As I’m sure the festool is also great. But is it twice as good as the Mikita? I doubt it. So why should I spend twice as much for something that’s only a fraction better?

Its so fucking hilarious to hear Scott say "Oh now there's dust all over the ground." For us chippy's who still aren't as EVOLVED and don't have vacuums- that's like a small amount of dust LOL. Fuck I need to get one... I'm tired of sweeping, man.
Getting rid of an electric cable is worth it. For me it really made a difference. When I have more cuts to do on the job site, especially kitchen remodelling, one tangling/dangling thing less attached to your saw is a win.
No riving knife on the makita though and they took the riving knife feature from the (cordless) festool *Pull hair* . A lot of people crying about it getting in the way - just make it removable. Wouldn't touch either saw if there isn't a riving knife. Battery is moot if you're tethered with a hose.
Thanks for sharing. That's what I wanted to hear. Is the extractor worth the large expense? My current small vacuum was $30 and a good contractor grade is under $100 around here.
@@zackfishle1009 it's a totally different animal, the wireless remote is awesome and can fit with whatever the brand and tool, but the major point is that it's not a vac but a dust extractor, so it's made to be OSHA compliant 👌🏼 just like a festool dust extractor.
@@zackfishle1009 I love it. But in the other hand, the festool and the Makita are more refined track saws, but the cordless dust extractor from Makita have a big lack of CFM compare to the DeWalt.
Today, we use Makita's track saw for a cutting effect display, you can see that the cut out of the cut has no burst edge and no cracking, so our kunlun tooth diamond saw blade, installed on the track saw can do not burst edge
Hey Scott if your using the vacuum hose then might as well clip cord to hose to keep things tidy as I could see the blue tooth system being temperamental and time waster my 2 cents, I have the corded makita 3 years now in pro use. Hey what gazebo brand are you using?
Thank you, you made up my mind. And yes, having a cordless track saw and then have a vacuüm hose is a bit silly in my opinion. I'll go with the corded version. Nothing more annoying than losing power mid-cut.
Some Festool stuff is only slightly more than top end tools from other brands like jigsaws but everything else in their line up is other worldly for price. So many brands are stepping up their game these days that you really don’t need Festool.
I bought my Makita cordless tracksaw a year ago. I don't see the AWS button on it. Is there a new model of the tracksaw that I must buy to have that feature, or am I missing something? BTW, I have been using a "remote" switch for my vacuum. $10 at Home Depot. It plugs into a wall receptacle and the vacuum plugs into it. The small remote button hangs on a lanyard around my neck. Just before I pull the trigger on whatever cordless tool I'm using, I push the remote and start the vacuum.
You guys are carpenters so the Makita is no doubt sufficient but are they accurate enough for cabinet making? I've been having problems with my Makita corded track saw (running out /squarness) so I am considering the cordless festool for better accuracy (and convenience)
Aarrrghhhhh ... bought the Makita yesterday on special. Didn't think to get the bluetooth! I've got a Festool vac, didn't realise the Makita had a plug-in bluetooth unit. Back to the shop in the morning! Saved by another exciting video from Scott Brown Carpentry ... Thanks! PP
Hey Scott, just bought the Makita. there's a black strip on the guide rail where the blade rides and it seems the blade interferes with it when plunging the saw. Do I just cut the strip back on my first pass?
I have makita cordless. I guess you forget to mention 1 extra thing which makita plunge saw have that is you can lock it while you doing 45 deg cut. So it dosent fall.
Track saw Makita or Festool? The answer is Mafell :) Anyway, since you always are tethered to the vacuum hose I just buy the corded versions. I have a 10 meter lead velcro strapped (well velcro sleeved) to the vacuum hose, and converted all my corded tools to a Festool type Plug-It lead. Any tool you want to use you just plug in the vacuum and lead, and off you go.
Hi Scott , an Aussie carpenter here , I see that you are using a canopy over your work area , I have been thinking of going this way as well. What's your thoughts on this setup ?

Or why I dont stay with not profesional einhell and karcher which paid themselfe 20 times and get job done. ..bla bla you canot come to customer house with non professional tool, you dont look serious...its not that. Its sickness to spend money on things which you maybe dont need in that moment but you dreaming about it.🤪🤗 pardon me on my english, gretings from croatia
More than anything else in your videos, I love the camaraderie that you have with your mates. Together, you appear to be "buds for life".
You should check out the Mafell Tracksaw. You can connect two tracks without straight edge , one 18v battery (Cordless Alliance, so metabo battery's), better dust extraction and faster blade change.
Always good to see Cameron. He is the best. Has all the best tools.
Good video Scott. I have the cordless Makita when I bought it it came with four batteries for 329 you can't beat that
You can when festool batteries last 4-5 longer than makita ones 😉
It's hard justifying a Festool purchase. But when I buy them and use them it's so nice to use. My track saw is 12 years old and used a lot in the shop and the site for ripping. Great for ripping hardwood boards to get one side straight so I can dimension the board on the table saw. Much easier this way.
The Festool tracksaw is a joy to use.No real need for cordless when hooked up to the vac.
I have the Festool HKC 55 EB 18v. Track is attached to saw, great for framing. If you don’t have the bluetooth batteries You can always just turn the vac on.
When you are cutting on 45 degrees makita has a tool on de blade that you put out en slides in the track. Sorry for bad english
sir Jaymun nothing wrong, perfect 👌🏽
I have both the corded and cordless makitas. only real difference is the corded saw will rip solid timber with less wining about it.
also the cordless takes a super thin kerf blade, so if your using two saws on the same tracks, the rubber will be off slightly
Nice comparo! We're so spoilt by the variety of tools available these days! Gotta love technology.
I still rock a true cordless hand saw from time to time. No batteries, no cord, no vacuum. The way it works the hell out of my right bicep, no gym membership needed 😂😂
#Respect for the nation builders who did all the work by hand back in the day!!
If your track saw grabs then the blade is probably misaligned. My makita was. After adjusting the shoe plate never grabbed again and the cut was a lot cleaner.
I have the battery festool always use the bagg it works good enough

4 batterys.. also and fastest charger so takes 30 minutes to charge a 5.2 amp battery
I have the makita one for over a year now i love it
And also the makita track saw runs a thinner blade to compensate for less power, we found that out the hard way cutting beams and had the blade wonder into our rail ! Didn’t have the problem with the festool but we were pushing the limits of the saws with what we were cutting so....
Though more expensive, the Mafell MT55 is superior to both and has an easier and more accurate track joining system. I had the Festool and enjoyed using it but returned it after trying a friend's Mafell.
why Mafell is better than airstream?
I was working on a project when you posted this video. Fumbling with a straight edge and circular saw, Finally had enough of it and ordered the makita track saw! Got one in the mail on the way. Can't wait!!
Have the Makita cordless & absolutely love it. They do need to sell replacement rubber for the tracks as blade changes often sees the new blade sitting slightly different to the previous one & the rubber ends up too trimmed.
They definitely do sell replacement rubbers, just need to shop around online where you are. I'm in the UK and they are quite easy to find, hopefully the part number is the same where you are: 423360-7
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Makita-423360-7-Rubber-Guide-Rail-Splinter-Guard-3m-SP6000-/181717733435
Regards,
Etna.
I'm excited for the 40v track saw. If you can, please do a review on it as soon as you can get your hands on one.
@samsingh2042 everybody knows that but still they are buying track saw with battery. Vacum with battery is not efficient, only if you are using for cuts, if you need cleanig customer house after drilling walls, conecting cabinets...battery one is not good.Im now with makita tools and batterys system and I love it. Biscut joiner, drills ect. I tryed festool tracksaw and vacum with my coleague carpenter and that feeling of using festool tools is great. Souch better touch and details better than on any other tool. I own einhell track saw with cmt blade and karcher industrial vacum all corded. All together 300€. Geting jobs done with new blade 58 tooth super clean cuts, razor sharp.

I wil try now to consider mafell as well, thanks
I have that makita cordless track saw and it has been faultless.
One word of warning I have a 3m makita track and a 1.4 festool track and need to adjust the cams on the track saw to sit snugly every time I swap.
Pretty minor but can get irritating real fast.
The festool fits on makita track ?
A point to be made is the full setup up with saw, rail, two or more batteries and charger is actually cheaper with festool... or atleast it was last I checked !
I find that hard to believe. I purchased the Makita cordless, 2 - 55" rails, and 4 batteries for less than the Festool corded with one 55" rail. I added the Makita 39" rail which tipped me $20 over the Festool corded with the one rail. Note that I did not buy the bluetooth model. Instead I use a simple remote control outlet with the remote attached to my saw. An extra button push but it has worked well.
No, I don't want a cordless tracksaw. I have a corded Makita. I am watching because I like your channel.

Paerau mentioned what I always wonder if your going to hook up a hose is it really worth the money for cordless. Great video
It gives you the options of being completely detached, especially in places you don't need dust extraction and have no mains electricity.
Getting rid of an electric cable is worth it. For me it really made a difference. When I have more cuts to do on the job site, especially kitchen remodelling, one tangling/dangling thing less attached to your saw is a win.
It's also an excuse for a smaller saw, what I have a small saw without the weight of the batteries is worth it for me.
I have a makita battery vacuum cleaner too so yes its worth it
@@daafrsn7651 which vacuum do you have?
Great video! I would love to see the whole space when completed. LOVE the plywood finish with the black reveal!!!
I have used both makita and fedtool corded, but Recently purchased the new Dewalt flex volt cordless track saw. Amazing. You should check it out.
No riving knife on the makita though and they took the riving knife feature from the (cordless) festool *Pull hair* . A lot of people crying about it getting in the way - just make it removable. Wouldn't touch either saw if there isn't a riving knife. Battery is moot if you're tethered with a hose.
Honestly, I have the DeWalt 54V cordless track saw and damn it work really well ! Combine with the remote and the 54V dust extractor it's just awesome
@@Frenchcanadiancarpenter Sounds cool. Do you like it?
@@zackfishle1009 I love it. But in the other hand, the festool and the Makita are more refined track saws, but the cordless dust extractor from Makita have a big lack of CFM compare to the DeWalt.
This vid needs a re-edit you missed out “ Scott brown here “ !!!
Today, we use Makita's track saw for a cutting effect display, you can see that the cut out of the cut has no burst edge and no cracking, so our kunlun tooth diamond saw blade, installed on the track saw can do not burst edge
Your video style definitely reminds me of Casey's video style. Great job Scott
Hi Scott love the videos. Could you compare the Makita to the Dewalt track saw
Cameron looks great , like super start , kingpin of tools ⚒️
Try the mafell cordless tracksaw literally the best saw ever
What paper do u use to plan ur projects as in to design etc? Looking for recommendations
Fantastic work. I’m loving the content on your channel
Love the videos; I get excited every time you upload!
Hi. cool awning. tell me the model and where can I buy it?
Cameron is such a cool. really interesting how different you 2 seem to be project wise
Wonder how long until they change the track saw over to the new 40v(36v) batteries or go crazy and have an 80v(72v) track saw.
On another note, that rebar tool is amazing!
Just before I pull the trigger on whatever cordless tool I'm using, I push the remote and start the vacuum.
great.. Just bought the makita angle rail attachment and it doesn't fit with my festool tracks... WHY !!!?
Hey @Scott, Great videos!
What's the name of the angle tool at the 57sec mark? I'm looking for a slim T-bevel style angle finder! Does anyone know?
Man, I want to hang out with you guys! Always a good time!!
Can you do an update to this with 40v makita
Have you used the Dewalt 60v track saw to compare as well?
Thanks,
Adam
Have you tried mafell tracksaw. They also make the best & most expensive jigsaw. The tracksaw though is sane price range as festool.
Man, Cameron is a nice Person! 😊
can makita track saw fit 180mm blade? possible? i want to fit 180mm diamond blade to cut tile
i think in my head the festool track saw makes everyone a carpenter
Cameron has the most tools ive ever seen!!
I have makita cordless. I guess you forget to mention 1 extra thing which makita plunge saw have that is you can lock it while you doing 45 deg cut. So it dosent fall.
I have the Makita 36v track saw and it's a great tool, 👍😁🇮🇪
Track saw Makita or Festool? The answer is Mafell :)
Anyway, since you always are tethered to the vacuum hose I just buy the corded versions. I have a 10 meter lead velcro strapped (well velcro sleeved) to the vacuum hose, and converted all my corded tools to a Festool type Plug-It lead. Any tool you want to use you just plug in the vacuum and lead, and off you go.
Im looking to buy a tracksaw, do you secure the track before cutting or simply lay it on top of the material and it stays put?
What's that contraption that bends and cuts rebar? That thing packs alot of torque
Where does Cameron get all those gadgets from good program I like it wish you guys all the best and tell chef he does a good cooking
Great video have the Makita 36v excellent saw
What saftey glasses is your man at the end wearing are they good
Hi Scott , an Aussie carpenter here , I see that you are using a canopy over your work area , I have been thinking of going this way as well. What's your thoughts on this setup ?
The only thing Kameron needs in that van is a bar fridge with a few cold ones in it.
