None so vile was so great that the band literally forgot how to write good songs afterwards
They put everything they got ant there was nothing left
I was lucky enough to attend a show during the None So Vile tour. They sounded absolutely insane live, the drums were particularly mindblowing. Can't remember who played in support, Gorguts I think. Anyway, I also remember being completely let down by their next two releases and never gave them another listen after that. I totally missed the second coming of Lord Worm.
I'm definitely a Lord Worm purist. I actually first heard them when Once Was Not came out, so that probably colored my perception of the band.
I always got the feeling about Cryptopsy that they were a band who was only for the sickest of the sick in the era of their first two albums, only the absolute freaks were in on that shit as it was happening.
I also really think that hyperblasting brutal death owes much more of a debt to that early material than most people think. That ultra-chaotic double foot blast changed the blasting game up hard and not enough people recognize imo

Hell yea, the first two Cryptopsy albums and the Ungentle Exhumation ep rule. They absolutely crush most other ‘brutal’ death metal bands into the dirt. I always thought Cryptopsy blow Suffocation out the water too but I’ve always felt aside from Human Waste Suffocation are pretty overrated.
Suffocation scratch a different itch for me, less messy, more technical etc, while still remaining brutal

Just wanted to mention, according to lord worm all of Blasphemy made Flesh, and half of None so Vile was actually written by Steve Thibault, not Jon Levasseur. Kind of interesting considdering the change in sound after those 2 records.
He mentions it in the Reaper Metal interview at some point.
