If you want something that flowers, you could consider a climbing hydrangea for the wall. They are pretty good at self adhering to surfaces but aren’t as damaging as ivy (the main drawback relates to weight, but if you have a stone wall vs a fence it’s not really an issue). They also do well in sun and shade. I think you can get evergreen varieties.
Hello Sheldon!!! I am in love with the roman shade for your french doors out to your garden. I have a few thoughts for you. I would love to see the same fabric used for small oblong pillows on your dining chairs or even on your sofa. Perhaps, adding a great fringe or trim. Also, have you ever thought of recreating the 'LOOK' of your french doors in place of the single door- I believe it goes to your kitchen. You could open that space to mimic the same height and size of your french doors. Identical trim, of course. Creating two french doors with the look of a window with mirrors instead of glass. You could also create the 'LOOK' of two french doors that is actually 1 door and operates as such. I think I would also consider mirroring that entire back wall. Bestie....please tell me you know what Im talking about!!!! PS...LOVE YOU and LOVE YOUR SHOW.
I think the ivy wall would be stunning, I would cover the original concrete with oak composite style decking. So much cheaper and easy to maintain, you could also do it yourself
This RUclips auntie is so proud of you. You took constructive criticism and ran with it..❤ I can not wait to see your channel grow more.😊 This week's episode was wonderful and it is great that you are taking us on your journey. In regards to the kitchen..since it is an expensive undertaking, I would wait a few years to see if the house will be the forever home before making your decision. BTW, one of things that I like about you, you do not have an inflated ego.
omg I had to laugh because I painted my back gate that same blue colour haha I was inspired by the mediterranean, where you often see that blue a lot 🤭😄 Definitely go for the ivy! It will look fabulous. I have boston ivy along my back fence and it looks gorgeous. The only con is it loses the leaves in the winter. I have english ivy elsewhere and I love that it stays a rich green all year. I just stumbled upon your channel and looking forward to following your renovations!
Oh I so love you sharing the process of doing your guest bedroom, it’s so exciting seeing your vision come to life. Also I love the idea of the Boston Ivy it’s so pretty and love that it changes colour with the changing seasons. I’m living vicariously through seeing your home develop at the minute 😊and so happy to see how happy this makes you.❤️
I can see you making the kitchen space amazing extension or not ...a basic kitchen is all you need and with your talent & love of panelling trimming and beautiful hardware it will look amazing ...add in a vintage serving table for your island (space allowing)....and voila....your very only Sheldon made Devol kitchen 🤍🤎 x
The vision looks great, has does the rest of what you have completed. Also, you mention extending the house, and your not sure right now. Knowing your aesthetic is traditional .i.e victorian. I do think that adding a modern 'architectural' twist onto a victorian property, actually looks amazing!. And really compliments the original property. Regarding the ivy. In a previous property that I owned, I 'unknowingly' bought chinese ivy (not the technical name to run across the top of my courtyard garden wall (privacy etc) and to cover the inward facing side of it. Fast forward 1/2 years and it had covered the whole inside wall and (and also raised the top with its growth by over a foot!). Downside is, that it sheds its leaves in winter. I have recently bought a newer property. from at the end of my garden is the 'length side' of my neighbors garage, which I intend to plant virginia creeper for its seasonal colour and do the same on my detached garage side wall that can be seen from a small window at the from the side of my lounge. Not only to disguise the brick but to also have a more pleasant and characterful outlook. Although it looks great on the house walls I would avoid. Not only due to 'possible' brick/mortar damage but to avoid rodents using it has a highway and getting inyto your home through open windows/ vents etc. Not to put your post on a 'downer' on all of the above and just wanting to bring your attention to the following (you may already know). Although 'others' (including those in the building trade may say differently - .i.e "Been working with the material for 40 years" etc) and may not agree. I would try to reduce touching 'unsealed' MDF as much as possible without gloves, has it's fibres and dust can easily be breathed in and/or be transferred from hand to mouth/nose etc, indirectly and find its way into your body/lungs and be fatal. Although the UK government have 'so-called guidelines'??? in place (but look it up). Although not as commonly dangerous/fatal as 'mesothelioma', which my brother-in-law unfortunately recently died from 6 weeks after diagnosis, and to his own knowledge, had never worked (electronic design engineer- office based) or been in 'direct' contact with the asbestos, he was told that the spores could have been in the air (from nearby work being done etcc) and breathed in and can sit dormant in the body for 10 - 50 years and then react or even be triggered by something general like a fall/body impact etc. He was always fit/ active sport etc, and suddenly 'felt' ill, walking pace slowed, rapidly lost weight and had difficulty breathing. Since have builders/carpenters in my home, they have told me that masks should be worn at all times if worKing with MDF (once told I even also wore a mask in the garage when sweeping the dust from it up!). I suppose like everything, some do or don't, and some are lucky and some are not. Just thought I would mention it after seeing you with the material.
Could you create a kitchen in the current space which is designed so that if you extend later the new kitchen can carry on still being used? No need to replace everything again so soon? Also, for the extension itself, have you thought of perhaps creating a conservatory style extension? That might be less expensive? It all looks so beautiful! Thank you for the video!!!!
Hey Sheldon! A kitchen island is the DREAM but I think if you’re thinking you’ll even possibly move in the next few years, id maybe hold off on the extension & have an island in the next house. The kitchen looks like it’ll be a great, workable space without the extension - with the bonus of a good-sized utility. I’m the absolute worst decision maker though 😂 Can barely decide what to have for lunch most days! An ivy wall with a wisteria along the top would be amazing! Our wisteria grows so fast & gives a pop of colour during summer! Loved this one Sheldon…always brightens up a Wednesday evening to get your notification! ❤
The new blind lets in so much light in your beautiful dining room. The draft kitchen design plans look good already - shaker style is so timeless. Looking forward to next vlog to see your guest room progress 😊 xx
I love going to the tip, it gives me a sense of success, watching stuff get out of the house reduces the clutter! Love it. A few years ago after a loft conversion, when we were trying to reconfigure things, my husband and I got rid of over 50 bags of ‘stuff’ either to charity shops or the tip. We both felt ‘lighter’ for weeks 😃
Oh the feeling after it is delightful! I don't enjoy going haha! 🤣 I can imagine the feeling of getting 50 bags out of the house that must have felt amazing
I would do the kitchen without the extension. In the future, if you feel like this is your forever home, you can expand. I think you’ll be happy with a new bigger kitchen without the expansion. I’m renovating my small kitchen now, so I cannot wait to see what you do to your kitchen!
I work in realestate in Australia and here wet areas sell homes meaning kitchens and bathrooms etc. however keep in mind the resale price. I’d recommend going to local real estate agents and get a valuation to see where you are sitting resale wise. This will help you make a decision. Either way you go I just know it’s going to be stunning. Wisteria would give you colour but I’m not sure how well it would do in that space. ❤
Hi Sheldon your looking very enthusiastic 🤩 great stuff considering you’ve not long been back from your dads your on go go go 😀 The binds are stunning! Guest room will be fab too! As regarding the extension there are some very sensible reply’s to you! If I were you I would play around with design like you are really really don’t get or feel rushed! And a few people here said don’t over build for your area if your not seeing a return donkey years ago me and my hubby did the market dropped so what we put in we did not get back but! The only good thing here was we sold our house in one hour lol 😂 to the first buyer thank god we did so slowly slowly you go pays off! We never made the same mistake again! Your home is fab when the time comes if you move on they will snap it up maybe let the next buyers do the extension 🩵

Good Evening Sheldon our homebody bestie ❤️ I absolutely LOVE the idea of Boston ivy, it's easy to maintain & looks beautiful in the autumn/winter months. The kitchen you've designed looks good without the extension. But like others have mentioned, best to get advice from an agent to see whether it would be worth it.
