Thanks for this lesson! The intro seemed rather complex to me until I realized that the the 1st part of the riff, was an E barre chord, and the 2nd part is a D barre chord, then it all came together for me. Now, if I could only sing this great song...
I would say that the session(studio) musician, used an altered tuning, to do the same thing you are demonstrating, but much easier on the fingers. * possibly the guitar was in Open E Tuning.
