Twilight one is so bad lmao It's like in GOT when Littlefinger thirsted after Catelyn but when she was out of the picture he started thirsting after her daughter but somehow in Twilight they try to reason it and not portray it as downright creepy
i've actually got an odd opinion about 'fate' in stories. most stories with this trope end up somewhat wishy washy where they want to have some sort f 'fate' or 'prophecy' but still have a lot of freedom, where the fate/prophecy only affects like one event or something, and i personally think that it's better to either have no predestined fate/prophecy, or go whole hog, where it's a central part of the story. not tot he extent that there is no free will whatsoever, but have it influence many events, not just a single thing. when you have it be a more major part of the story, it actually elevates all those decisions that aren't affected by the fate/prophecy even more, because there is such a clear divide
I hate 'fate' in stories in general because it tends to undercut a lot of the struggle of the characters, it was one of the things that ruined the manga Naruto for me and many others.
Fate can be good in storytelling when it's treated less like a spoiler and more like the setup of a mystery: This ordinary child is fated to overthrow the king, but how could that happen?
And now I'm thinking of the Belgariad/Mallorean where the Prophecy is an actual voice in characters' heads and tells them what to do but half the time its telling them they need to go somewhere to read another prophecy in a book, and the other half is "Okay you need to bring this one guy who seems utterly unsuited for this on your journey. Trust me."
@@davidbigboutay782 thats actually a great example. it's both a major story element that dictates a lot of what happens, AND dree will is incredibly important for all the bits in between with the prophecy. it's actually my favorite example, because the idea of 2 equally valid but different prophecies dictating events, and that the conclusion between them that determines which one actually becomes true is a choice made by free will, is really well done
Twilight really traumatized Fauna lmao
She was equally traumatized and enraptured
