Your video is really educational I've been looking for one that shows you in slow speed how to do that with the wings I really appreciate what you did you're 1 of the good ones out there compared to all the crappy ones that I have seen thank you again keep up the good work
Thank you Allen, great video! This gave me the confidence to install a grab bar in our shower. I bought a 36" Delta grab bar at ACE and then did my research online to figure out how to install. Your video was perfect. I watched another video where the use blue paint tape to make all your measurements on and this helped me a lot and protected my tiles when I slipped with the diamond hole saw. The hardest part for me was starting on the angle with the hole saw which you seem to be quite efficient at. I did get a little better with each hole. I did notice that the grab bar you used lined up with top and bottom holes on the template, with my delta bar the top and bottom holes were offset to match the correct distance with the wingit template. This cause me some hesitation and fear, but after triple measurements I finally decided to go for it and everything lined up perfectly. Thanks again for taking the time to put this video together!
Thank you for teaching me! I was afraid to install one for my dads shower but now, tomorrow is INSTALLING GRAB BAR DAY. You speak very clear and very calm and it makes fun to watch you and your tools. THANK YOU and you got a new subscriber :)

I just put in a grab bar and used a dermal 1/4" tile bit. First, I punched a hole through the tile and then used a circular motion to open up the hole to the size I needed.
To find a stud behind tile: Use a small drill bit and drill through a grout line. When through, probe using a nail to find a stud. If you don't continue drilling until you do and then cover up the excess holes with grout (or perhaps caulk) Done.
Great video! Unfortunately I found a block wall behind the tile that I wasn't expecting. I ended up using the Apache bit to drill far enough into the cinder block to allow for the wings to spread out behind the tile/wall. A bit more work but the wingits still worked fine.
@@handymanjourney Just a note for anyone who has not done this before, we used the Wing-Its on the first bar and it went very well. I also had purchased Snap Toggles and used them on the second bar, it went just fine also. Then on the 3rd bar, again using Toggles I got off my mark just a bit drilling the holes. It took a while to correct the problem, so what I wanted to convey, if you don't use the Wing-Its which have the template for where to drill the holes, perhaps make a templet and avoid the problem I encountered. My magic marker mark got smudged and I veered.:( Alas, all was well at the end. :)
The video is great! does help with 1 part for me and is really easy to follow and understand! however...I have a situation where I need to drill through the tile and into a block wall behind for the grab bars. any helpful insight?
Great video. I followed it and was successful at the end. The most challenging part was to align both holes to match the Winglets (verticality spaced accurately). There are hardly any vertical adjustments on the grab bars. I actually ended up enlarging the grab bar holes to allow the screw be mounted straight into the winglets. Any suggestion as how to avoid that? I still have 3 more to install on my parents showers. I was right on target using the templates.
If you double check your measurements before drilling the hole that you are the exact measurement away from the center to center you should not have to enlarge the holes and you should be able to go right in with them. Best of luck to you
Please help! I'm using an 1-1/4" diamond hole saw bit and I can't stop it from slipping off to the side when I start on angle. I have even tied to go thru masking tape very slowly but I still can't control it. Your video, and all the others, make it look so easy. What else do I need to Know?

Nice video. I wish I found this video before. All the information presented here is accurate. Do not try the Apache bit on porcelain as he stated. You’ll just end up breaking it and it’s rather expensive. Get yourself the Milwaukee bit as he discussed and make sure you keep it cool.
This is good advice. Thanks. I looked in your descripton but didn't find links to the 3/4 red diamond holesaw or the wing-its. You're leaving referral money on the table here.
I thought this looked like something I could myself, so when I was with my 90 yr old dad, in Florida, I set to use this method. Turned out to be a disaster because, in Florida, the external walls are made with concrete.. They put slats on the concrete and attach the wallboard to the slats. This means there is only a 3/4 inch space behind the wallboard which means any method that relies on a space behind the wallboard will not work. So frustrating!
hi handy..not talking about measurements...im referring to the circl hole pattern on the grab bar...how can it be same as the wibgit template?..just coincidence?...all grab bars are made different and all the mounting hole patterns are different
I used one from Home Depot that has an epoxy adhesive that will attach right to the tile, It had really good reviews and I have to admit it worked great. Only drawback is you have to let the adhesive dry overnight.
Fact...... epoxy will not hold up to water. Minerals in the water will chew rate through it in no time. You better off using silicone, with a dap of hot glue to hold it in place all the silicone cures
