Mary Janes was the candy. They were 3 for a penny when I was a kid. My mother would never let me get a big mac at McDonald's because it cost 45 cents and that was too much.

I remember when I was young, many, many years ago we used to go out and got pillow cases full of goodies. Candied apples, pop corn balls, candy bars, when they were large, and cost little along with nickels and penny's

As a kid going out on our own with no adult supervision. It was much more fun when it just us kids/teenagers going out getting 🍬, conversating about things in life and when done we traded our candy with each other. Trading the candy we did not like for candy we did like that someone else had. As an adult my best memory of Halloween is that of 10/31/2004. That marks the night I quit drinking and have been sober ever since.

I love your memories and pictures🥰. In 1964 my brother and I went trick or treating for the first time in Oneida Ky. We dressed up in old clothing too big for us, carrying a pillowcase to collect the treats. Our Grandparents drove us to town and parked at the local grocery while we ran around to the little houses in town, collecting more candy then we had ever seen! On the way home we caught a glimpse of a light on a porch down a dark lane. We begged our grandfather to stop for us to get the candy from 1 more house. He didn’t want to pull into the rugged lane in fear of his car “dragging” so he parked at the main road. We proceeded to venture down the dark lane toward the light, walking upon the creaky porch and knocking on the door, the door was opened by a kindly woman. We said “Trick or treat” and held out our pillowcase. The woman gasped, putting her hands to her mouth and hollered into the house “ Herman, do we have any of that fried chicken and cornbread left over from supper? There’s some poor little youngens out here starved to death, begging for food!” Herman came to the door with the food and his wife wrapped up the cold chicken into a dish towel and placed it gently into our pillowcase, followed by a big hunk of corn bread. Our eyes lit up and we smiled and said “Thank you very much!” We drove away, thrilled to have enough of the fried chicken and cornbread for the four of us. I always say that this was the “original and best Kentucky Fried Chicken” 🥰 . I love this memory of my first Halloween all those years ago.

At my first Halloween I went as wood hauler. When I was young we only got one thing at Christmas and we got a stocking with fruit. So when I got my little wagon to haul wood to the house, I used it for my Halloween costume. I only went to 2 houses, I got a popcorn Carmel ball and a apple that is all I got. My times have changed. Happy Halloween y’all…..

I love the molasses taffy with the peanut butter centers wrapped in orange or black waxed wrappers. No one had those for sale this year!!! My son (27) my mom (84) and I (60) handed out candy at my home church in VA for Trunk or treat. So much fun!! The lady next to us who is my age posted on her Facebook page that she remembered being "traumatized" as a kid when she went to an elderly lady's house a n.v d the woman had forgotten it was Halloween. She went to the kitchen and came back with a baked sweet potato and plopped it on top of her candy in her bag!! I thought that was a funny story.

I remember going out trick or treating with my next door neighbor friend. We lived near a big subdivision with hundreds of houses. We would go out and fill several big grocery bags (the old paper ones) with candy. We would fill up one bag, walk home, and get another one to fill. Sometimes we would stay out until 10:00 pm. I also made my costumes. I think I had a store bought one once when I was about 5 years old. My favorite costume was when my friend and I put on some short pants with no shirt or shoes. We wet our hair and our chests with water and wrapped a towel around our waists to appear as we had just stepped out of the shower. I remember my friend's aunt asking, "Are you boys jaybird under those towels?" When i would finally come home, i would pour out all my candy on my bed, and my Mom would come in and pick stuff that she liked. One of my favorites was the candy cigarettes. Fun times.

We went trick-or-treating around the neighborhood, disguised with plastic masks held on by elastic bands. Our dads walked with us and we used brown paper grocery sacks to hold our candy. Some houses were elaborately decorated and the folks handing out treats were in costume. There were a lot of red hots, atomic fireballs, jaw breakers, lollipops and pixie sticks. Our church always had a Halloween party - with games, caramel apples, popcorn balls and Rice Krispie treats. Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin was watched every year!

One of my funniest Halloweens ever was back around 1984. My pop had just baught an old push start chain saw and to keep us 6 kids away from it he hid it under his and my moms bed. That night after watching the Texas chainsaw massacre and everyone was getting ready for bed, pop was messing about and had carried mom into their bed room .without thinking he tossed mama on the bed and when she hit the bed the force turned on the chainsaw. The saw came up right beside my mother sending her into a screaming terror that fully trumped any from the movie we had all just watched. Needless to say , pop sold that chainsaw the next day.

It was fun listening to your Halloween memories. My son is your age, maybe a year older, so I am obviously not a kid or a young person. We never went trick or treating because we lived in the middle of nowhere. I remember my church youth group leaders were on their soap box about Halloween one year, so they held a "halloween" party at the church and wanted the youth to dress as their favorite character from the Bible. Don't get me wrong, I am a Born again Christian and full of faith, even back then, but I can have a bit of a contrary side. I showed up decked out as John the Baptist...beheaded. 😳😁 I don't think the adults quite knew what to do with me at that point! LOL

Y’all are so funny! Cute pictures from your Halloween past. I will say y’all make me feel really old. My Halloween memories were back in the 60’s and early 70’s until 1973 when I stop going out because I was to old….way before y’all were even thought about. We always made our costumes too. That was the fun part, being creative with what we had around the house to make our costumes. I loved going out with my siblings. My favorite treat was homemade popcorn balls and homemade caramel apples that two neighbors made each year. One man always forgot so he gave us money like dimes, nickels or quarters, but never pennies. We thought we had struck it rich when we got a quarter…lol…aww them were the good old days! Happy Halloween Y’all!🎃👻

I remember being Donald Duck once, and a clown several times. One year I bought a clown costume, but when I opened the package, I was greeted by a picture of Wolf Gal from "Li'l Abner". No time to go back to the store, so I went with it and got a few people calling me "sweetie' and "little girl". My sister still insists they all realized I was a boy, but I think she was just jealous that my get-up got more compliments than her fairy princess costume did. Oh, those candies with the striped wrapper are called Mary Janes. I liked the chocolate bars myself.

It was a lot. Costume was your basic hobo look, with charcoal face. Back then it lasted as long as people kept answering the door... probably 2+ hours. Loved Halloween. You girls sure had some neat costumes.

My girls are about y’alls age and I swear they are just now appreciating my Halloween costumes for them. One thing they love to laugh and good humorously make fun of is my thrifty ways. I couldn’t fathom dumping $20 plus per child on a one time store bought costume so I’d go buy them a jogging pantsuit and according to what they were gonna be, that’d be the color- for example- 🐰 bunnies- I’d buy a pink set and pin white fluffy tails to their booty, make a headband set of ears and do up a cute bunny makeup face. So they’d be warm on Halloween night and I’d have an outfit they could wear afterwards instead of wasting money. 😂 they still poke fun at this one particular concept I used a lot.

This was so fun to see you guys as little! Thank you for sharing great memories and pictures! My funniest memory is when I was about eight years old. In previous years my much older sisters would dress me up and do my makeup so well that I almost scared myself. I would either be a witch or a hobo…the scarier the better. Well, when I was eight my mother bought me my first (and only) Halloween costume. It was a pink ballerina with silver sequins and a fluffy tutu. I was very polite and grateful when she gave it to me, but then I went in my room and secretly cried so hard because I couldn’t be scary haha! The next year I was so happy when I put the pink fluffy thing on and it was way too small!

So it is Halloween now.So Im going to dress up as a fox make some foxy cake, get really drunk and invite some people to my garden for a bonfire.Foxy Love VVxx

I was so scared of the flying monkeys! And I was the oldest kid. My little brothers and sisters would sit there and watch but I would always find a reason to be gone when that part came on because I was embarrassed to be the only scared one.

Cute costumes! 🤣 I loved anything chocolate for Halloween. The last time I dressed up for Halloween was when I was 19 or 20 years old. This girl I knew was a DJ at a radio station and had a party. I was dressed up as Hitler. I got some weird looks that night. LOL! 😱😀

Loves these memories and pics of yours, ladies, so fun!!!! I have some fun memories of Halloween growing up. I was a kid of the seventies and we had a lot of fun, and things were a lot safer back then, but we were always careful, the big scare going around then was not to take apples from people as there was news of kids getting cut from razor blades stuck in the apple!! yikes!! Our elementary school had dress up day for Halloween and we would have a parade outside, we would walk a short distance around the surrounding neighborhood and the parents came and the neighbors would stand outside and watch us. My neighborhood was safe but we kept to certain areas, closest to our home and off main streets. Some houses gave the same things every year so we knew what to expect and it was fun. One house gave out homemade fudge, one gave popcorn balls, one neighbor's Dad worked for Wonder Bread and would give out little mini loaves of wonder bread! And, the Dentist of the neighborhood gave out mini tubes of Crest toothpaste, HA!! :-) So many fun costumes of friends and family, I remember most of my costumes were homemade too, and one year I was a Spanish Flamenco Dancer., Mom took an old poofy slip of hers, dyed it black and pinned on artificial flowers and made a really cool costume. One of our neighbors was a box of lucky Strike cigarettes, lol.. Her whole body was the box, covering her head as well and her arms and legs were sticking out, and 2 or 3 cigarettes coming out of the top..Great memories.. I think my favorite candies were the mini candy bars, Snickers, Milky Ways, Reeses... Fun memories..

I could tell some stories but they would not be as interesting as yours. Both of you crack me up. Funny, Amusing, and so full of life. Stay safe and can't wait until the next video. I do remember one time during Halloween that we hid in the graveyard and scared a guy really really bad. We got a whooping when we got home because he told his mama when he got home and his mama called my mama and it was on then.
