Shannon's run/pass ratio his last year at Houston was almost 50/50. Not too worried about Mario and his perceived meddling with the Offense. We actually have a QB this year and not only a QB , but maybe the best in decades. The QB play last year was holding the team back, and it was clear the staff had lost confidence in his play.
I wish TVD well, but if he wants to play in the NFL, he better learn how to read zone defenses.

This comment is spot on ! 🎯
There are some Miami RUclipsrs who debunked this myth !
They went back and broke down Shannon Dawson at Houston and found a lot of common denominators that showed this has been all Dawson.
The problem has been at the TE position which I will assume you are aware.
We will see night and day in the offense this year with Arroyo finally being healthy and 6'6 250 lb Riley Williams will be ready to contribute as well now that he is in his second year.
Dawson should be able to completely open up his playbook now, no excuses !
McCormick coming back for his 9th year 😳 😂😂 lined up with Elijah Lofton 💪 in the backfield to block 💥 is going to break open some huge runs ! 🔥
Wisconsin is in for a rude awakening ! 🤣🤣
      36 more days ! 🏈 #GOCANES 🙌

@904Hurricane I do agree with your assessment of the TE room from last year, and yes, I expect Arroyo to be a beast this year, as well as that freshman phenom, Lofton. Oh yeah, I haven't forgotten about Riley Williams, who had a good Spring Game. Totally agree that the TE room will be important contributors to the Offensive success this year. Good observation!

What about the constant DRAW up the middle from shotgun formation ? I don’t think Shannon ran a sweep all year ! The run game play calling was TRASH I’m sorry !!

    • @richardjackley334
      @richardjackley334 2 месяца назад +2

@demcanes01 In 2023, the team averaged 173 yds per game ( 5.1 per carry), which ranked 45th nationally. The previous two years the team averaged 127 yds per game ( 3.7 per carry), ranking in the high 90's nationally and in 2019, 118 yds per game (3.8 per carry) ranking 106 nationally.
The team showed significant improvement in the rushing game last year, and I anticipate a stronger showing this year, especially due to the the upgrade at QB, as well as the addition of Martinez ( speed and power), along with our stable of highly ranked Backs.
There's no doubt inside zone is a staple of the air raid offense. No, I don't recall seeing any outside zone, but I did see "pin& pull" as well as "Power" mostly attacking the " B"
      gap & sometimes the "C".....

Cam Ward’s interview at ACC media day was very telling of the trust and belief the staff has in him. He talked about how Mario and staff let him come in and be himself and lead the way he wants to lead. Talk to teammates the way he wants.
I believe without question they will let Cam do his thing. Why invest in the kid so heavily to restrict him?

I don’t think Mario will get in the way. He knows Cam Ward is special and it’s evident by his comments at Media days. I also don’t think Mario is stubborn. Al golden was stubborn as he wouldn’t fire his terrible defensive coordinator for years. Mario has shown that he values winning above all else. He got rid of both coordinators after year 1 and got upgrades. He won’t abandon the run game but that will only benefit Cam with Damien Martinez being a big threat on the ground

Mario is stubborn, where have you been the last 2 seasons. Whether he let up some is a different story, but he will have a lot of input towards the offensive game plan. Mario needs a Nick Saban "wakeup" moment. Saban adjusted his mentality to fit the modern day game and players. With all the talent Miami has, we will still be run heavy to control the flow with ball control. Mario waits till the game dictates it or we're behind to let the passing game loose. Not a great idea for today's game.

Mario coached at FIU not FAU. Couple comments on Mario and the air-raid philosophy.
    - Mario's got that bad-ass OL and some of the best RBs in the Country. Can't go air-raid exclusively. When defenses stop our run, light it up air-raid style, or use air-raid style to loosen up defenses. Having Cam Ward run that offense gives Shannon Dawson lots of options and they're all good.
    - Mario's gotta trust Shannon Dawson (and Cam Ward) and stay the hell out of the way. With Shannon in year two I expect Mario to loosen the reins. Coaching Continuity on both sides of the ball is a luxury we haven't had at Miami in quite some time. I expect it to bear fruit.
    - Mario needs to let his Coordinators "coordinate", and keep his mind more focused on time management and situational awareness. Those were two areas I think were weaknesses in his coaching.
    - We definitely have the QB to do just about anything we want. Air Raid for sure. I just hope Mario doesn't tie hands and "play not to lose" rather than "play to win". We've all seen Mario's conservative side and his occasional "unwillingness" to change when things are obviously not working.

Recruitment and Coaching is our biggest upside and liability all at once. At the ACC media days, Ward said coaches want him to get the easy stuff first 😡 STOP IT WITH THE PUSSY FOOTINGS DURING GAME. A QB with his success is obviously aware of the easy stuff, and thus has made the difficult stuff work. Getting him to focus on the easy stuff MESSES with what's gotten him his success. Don't screw this one up, LADIES (COACHES), please! Have you ever noticed households with all kinds of problems and though they are professional marriage counselors and family counselors, they don't see their own problems, but others outside do? This bullshit narrative than Mario handcuffs his OC is utter hoarseshit. We didn't get noticably conservative last year till TVD started throwing picks all over the place and literally lost games specifically cuz of tvds inability to read zone defenses. Honestly, we had no choice. With this offense and Cam Ward I promise you Mario will leave Dawson alone and let Ward, Dawson and those wr's and RB's cook.
P.S. a balanced offense isn't one that runs 50% of the time and passes 50% of the time. A true balanced offense runs the pall effectively when the defense takes away the pass and passes the ball effectively when defenses take away the run (i.e. putting 8 men in the box with Xtra linebackers)
Elite offenses impose their will and do what they want no matter what the defense tries to take away. i.e, the Hurricanes will be able to pound the football even if teams put 9 defenders in the box. Ward will be able to throw intermediate and deep throws even when teams drop into a dime. This Miami offense is gonna set numerous program records this year I believe. Miami goes 12-1 and beats Clemson in the ACC championship and gets the #3 seed and a 1st round bye in the CFP. Let's go Canes. It's been a long time coming.
