My friends you read my mind. I already have a number of Abdouls classes recorded and ready for sharing however I'm working with the developers on his website to create a page which will allow the option for folks to watch/download his classes for a small fee. Stay tuned and it will be happening soon.

How about a link to Abdoul Doumbia's Paypal account so we can make small donations as a thank you to his generosity.

    Komo
Here we have a group lesson where my teacher Malian Master Drummer Abdoul Doumbia teaches the rhythm Komo.
The Komo secret society is the first one in which the Minianka men can be initiated. It trains the initiates to be masters of the word, for constructive or destructive purposes, as needed. Komo initiates learn their own mastery of fire different from the fire initiation; blacksmiths originally came out of this society. Komo initiates develop knowledge of the bush and its plants, and they delve into the hidden aspects of music. Komo musicians may witness feats involving mastery of natural phenomena outside the range of normal human capacity. Regardless of what they may see in front of them, they must not be astounded. They need to play calmly; a large crowd should cause them no nervousness. They learn through experience not to be influenced by externals. Another important study for Komo initiates is the effect of sound vibration on the human mind. The speed and skill of the Komo dancers is remarkable. They claim that spirits have given them knowledge of plants whose use facilitates their prowess in dance. When dancers are feeling fatigued and aching all over their bodies, the Komo initiates give herbal potions to make the dancing easy again. There are different levels of initiation in the Komo society. The higher initiates cultivate magical powers. During ceremonies, the younger initiates are warned that if they start to hallucinate from the effects of the plants they have ingested or the music they are listening to, they should go home and sleep. Otherwise, they risk becoming mentally unbalanced.

" Komo is one of the rhythms played in the Komo secret society ( closely related to the Numu/blacksmiths ) of the Bambara people of Mali. Komo was the first religion of the Bambara when people came to West Africa. Komo is a healing power which takes away sickness of the body and mind and is called upon to help everybody in the village. It's amazing how many of these native drummers are on You Tube. Equally amazing is the fact that they all sound virtually the same. I can only figure that it takes very little talent to do that.

Exactly!!! Just like rock guitarists!! RIGHT? Exactly the same!

Actually, there's a bit of a misconception here. Each instrument, whether it's the guitar or the djembe, brings its own unique flavor to music. While the guitar may be relatively young compared to the ancient tradition of the djembe, it still has its own depth and charm. Learning to appreciate the nuances of each instrument requires some training, much like learning a new language. It's understandable if you're not familiar with West African drumming; it's a vast and rich tradition that can take time to explore fully. So, instead of thinking all rhythms sound the same, maybe consider exploring different tracks or styles to broaden your musical horizons. Who knows, you might discover something new and exciting!

@@timdruma I was being sophomoric on purpose. LOL I was marveling at
@darz3829 saying, "It takes very little talent".
