I grew up in Eastern-Europe country. And when I was a child, the same system of building houses worked in our villages - no companies, but family and neighbours. Miriam, this is just for you. I want you to know that you are a very special young woman who has taken on a role that most would not even consider. You surely have stepped outside your comfort zone by moving to a foreign country, learning their language, and then moving there to live and raise two beautiful children. Love how you get along with your inlaws, and how you treat your husband. You should be very proud of yourself and the life you are creating. Love watching you! Wish you were my daughter in law!😍
I'm so impressed with you Miriam. Not a lot of girls want to live in a village or a house without a decent toilet or basic necessities. You adapt to your in-law's family and the village life so well.
As a chinese, i`ve never been to qinghai province, and through your excellent works, i`ve learnt so much about this place and the kind-hearted people here. thank you very much miriam. what you have done is not just recod your life, but also display the culture and convention of the northwest china to the people never been there! what you have been doing is building a bridge between the northwest china and other places in the world. and you may know this style of house you built is come from east china especially in anhui and jiangxi province. i`m so happy to see it appears in your home now, and i wonder now that you are fond of this style maybe it will show up in your motherland or some other countries in the future because of the work you and other cultural disseminator have done!
A few takes from this video.. 1) the community spirit of cooperation 2) the sunny disposition of your mother in law who is always smiling, 3) husband n all the men folks working so hard n being fed so well by the women working hand in hand, 4) San San n younger ones all into this spirit of learning and community kinship, and without doubt will grow into outstanding individuals, 5) your incredible support in detailing the work and allowing us to witness the joys, strength, harmony of the greatness of China.. And yet so much more, despite all the struggles obstacles , spring will definitely arrive after winter! Much love to you and family n your neighbourhood xx
of course you are involved, without you documented the project, we have no way to know how impressive it is. it made me understand what community means, and it's so enjoyble to see the way san san, li-an, nephew grow up together. the house looked stunning.

This documentary tugs our heart, for a westerner like you willingly accept the culture and grind of the rugged rural life says a lot of your genuine acceptance of your better half way of life . Yong Hong and your MIL are fortunate to be gifted you as a Wife and daughter in law.
Oh my goodness, this toilet is a killer. I really admire Miriam for your braveness and courageous to live in a poorest part of the country. You are my role model.
There are similar cultures in many rural areas of China. A lot of construction projects like this are done by people in the village helping each other, led by some experienced people, and the people who help do more will naturally learn. This comes from the poverty of the old days, so the village people could only help each other, and the house owner only had to provide three meals, with the men doing the physical work and the women cooking.
Your editing is amazing. The quality is really astounding considering you’re trying to watch two kids while you’re filming. There’s part of the video where you talk about not doing anything, but I think you may have been the most important person at that site. The world is changing, and this is important historical documentation for the future. Great job!

I know that the Chinese ppl dont have easy lives (even just having an outhouse as opposed to an indoor toilet) they work very hard so seeing her experience true satisfaction and happiness made me tear up a bit. Good for her and good for all of you! You deserve the most comfort especially with all the hard work sweat and love that was put into this house ❤️
That's how a house should be built, with friends and family. It's beautiful already. In all cold climates like Switzerland, the isolation is on the outside with plaster against it, in beautiful colours. If you are not born into a family it is easy to feel like an outsider. I got the idea your new family is happy with you and don't see you as so though, Miriam.
This is fascinating! Like Miriam, I’m from Sweden, so to me it didn’t even occur that isolation could be put anywhere but on the inside of the house. Now I want to learn more about other cultural differences in house construction! 🤓
this marriage and life of a Chinese country boy from inland rural northwest and a Swedish non-conformity girl makes a great story. Wish you a rich experience going back and forth between two distinct cultures. BTW, Miriam's photography is really improving. A happy family grounded in rich soils.
Oh Miriam, this video makes me very happy. You may feel like an outsider, and like you don't have a job to do, but your job is HUGE! You get to share really valuable and important Chinese traditions with many of us all around the world. Especially here in the west where we rarely get together as family and neighbours to do any project quite so amazing as building an addition to a house, it is wonderful to see this come together so quickly. You are exposing us to important things that make us think about how we do things. Thanks for that. And by the way, in English the word "isolation" has a completely different meaning from what it means in several European languages. I have heard this mistake made many times on RUclips videos recently. The correct word is "insulation." (You can look up the English word "isolation." It will make you smile!) I am happy that you will no longer have to go out into the cold and dark to go to the toilet! I remember that toilet video fondly! I really enjoy seeing all the traditions, and sharing your family members' names was very special too. They feel like friends to me, I have been watching you all so long! Happy life in your new house! Love and hugs from Canada.
@@weizhang2834 We tend to lose a lot of the old traditions when we move to the city. I am sure that this happens all over the world, too! It is quite sad!
I was so delighted to see and hear you Miriam ! I followed you in Chinese without knowing the language but sort of understood a little reading the comments. I love your family and your beautiful boys ! Your Chinese family is so kind. It is wonderful how everyone works together on getting your house renovated. Best wishes for a speedy result !! Much love from California 💕🌷
How wonderful to have English sub titles. What a beautiful extension you have it looks lovely and how it was built by family is just how it should be . 🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😀
It’s been awhile since I viewed your channel. I left off at #1 child. Nice to see the family still going strong and #2 in the family. What a lovely home and life. You can feel the love and sense of community.

Beautiful photos! And a beautiful family! Your father-in-law is a work horse and mother-in-law is sweet! The whole village is your extended family! Yours is a labor of love!
Ahhhh, I’m thrilled that you made this video Miriam! It’s so beautifully and thoughtfully done. I’ve been watching Yong Hong’s channel and getting the gist of the construction progress through translations in the comments 😂 The talent and community spirit of your village is amazing. So much hard work, but also a gift of sharing time, skills, food, and laughter with your family and friends. Life will be easier with this beautiful addition to your home. We are all looking forward to Part 2 😀❤
hahaha, I knew I couldn't be the only person who didn't speak Mandarin but watched young Yong Hong's channel anyway! 😊 I love both of their channels so much and it's so neat to have two different perspectives on many of the same events. It adds so much depth and makes me appreciate everything so much more!
I really admire your positive attitude and adaptive mind. Thinking of the house built only 10 years ago and in such a bad shape I would never have trusted the same building "team" or method for the addition. It looks really good though and I hope it will be structurally sound and healthy for your family to live in. Your kids are beautiful and adorable as always .... love from Sweden!
Hmm I wouldn't blame the 'team' too much - it was 10 years ago in a rural village, I doubt they had the materials or the knowledge available to them now. They did the best they could then and now are working together as a family to improve and update the house. Not too strange to trust family.
Love your documentary, it’s authentic and down-to-earth, hope you make many good ones with your talents and storytelling skills. And admiration for the hardworking people around you.
Amazing group effort! So many people with so many skills. I know it felt like forever but really - getting it done in such a short time is a miracle. I've had a couple of my homes renovated and NEITHER was done in less than a year - believe me when I say I was a minute away from ending up in an insane asylum. This process with your family and neighbors looked like a wonderful, happy process and, of course, hard work. Your contribution may be different Miriam but it is just as valuable. Caring for the kids, cooking and documenting the whole process in such a beautiful, thoughtful way!
You are doing something My Dear Mima...you are documenting social and cultural History in the building and renovation of a Home in China...this is really important and the Family as a whole will have a record of the build. Thank you Mima for a wonderful film...I love you gentle narrative commentary as well as your written diary entries on the screen too...Well Done Mima💗
Dear Mariam, this is how things get done in ancient past, here in China and likely everywhere else in society. In modern cities, like here in Singapore, such constructions have to be regulated, standards for sewage, safety considerations, etc. etc. You are contributing as your documentations and sharings are bridging China to the world, especially to your parents and friends in Sweden! Thank you.
Just so excited to see the house slowly growing and improving, a journey that so many within the villages of China and throughout the developing world are also taking with you.
Well done documenting the process. It's wonderful to watch this communal building process in Qinghai. There is a similar custom in the west called "barn raising." Such building processes build up community spirit and cohesiveness. Everyone looks out for each other. It's something that's missing in the highly commercialized, transaction-based societies, especially in big cities. The new extension looks beautiful and resembles traditional architecture in Zhejiang, a southern coastal province. Modernity will find its way into remote countryside. Changes are unstoppable. Soon some neighbours would want to build extensions for their houses too.
Thank you for documenting this whole process in such a telling and colorful way! I was worrying your mental exhaustion watching Yonghong's videos. I am very glad to see you were able to put everything together. Love your pink sweater🙂
Miriam you've done a great job in recording the whole process without which we won't see this precious episode of house building in rural Qinghai of China. The house is really beautiful which is no less than those in southern China like Anhui and Jiangxi provinces. Seems to me that SanSan is probably the only one wholeheartedly enjoyed the whole process and must have learnt a lot from it. All the best!
I lived in China for two years, and some periods of that in Yanghua Village! Our house was made of mud and straw and we had to make our way out of the house, courtyard, and behind the house to the toilet.
Wow, what a process it has been! So impressive how everyone worked together to get the job done. Thank you so much for the English translation because watching your husband’s channel I didn’t realize your father in law had fallen and hurt himself!😳 Hope he made a full recovery. Can’t wait to see the interior all finished!
What an amazing community you live in, and a really beautiful new building. I am so grateful for your documenting this in English and with subtitles so I get to hear your story. 👍
Thank you for this video, dear Miriam! So I understand it more better. I wish you a wonderful time there! It is so amazing, to look in this piece of the world with your family. I hope, that you will find the right place for you, your husband and your kids. I love Sweden, and I thought, that this is a better place for you all - but it is so interested, to see your life in China. Wish you all the best and thank you for the videos! Hejdå from Germany! Manuela
I love watching you and your beautiful family. You are so beautiful inside and out. Peace, calm and love is always the way and an awesome environment to raise those gorgeous children. Sending love and hugs from England. X
i love watching this video. it's so down to Earth. no imaginary BS - fantasies i.e. Superwealth, which has no consequence/importance to the every-day person, or society at-large. if she wanted to do a video home-schooling her children in English, that'd be fine, too. it might bore some people, but it serves a noble purpose.
Just love your videos, watching your beautiful family learn and grow. You are a warrior lady, living in a new country, following traditions a long way from home. Want to be there with you when you’re all eating that fantastic Chinese food. Looking forward to the next one 🎉❤ Mycket kärlek och lycka till med huset 🙏
Miriam, I love watching your video. It shares love, peace, courage and enjoyment of life! You and your mother-in-law are good and brave ladies in the family
I've also experienced feeling like an outsider while standing in my family home (in Thailand) because I am a mixed child and live abroad. People around me were all used to working together, as they had been living alongside each other all this time. Their "place" was probably created naturally after many years, and they had no particular need for me yet. It's okay to take your time to adjust, especially in an area of expertise (such as construction working) that you're not familiar with. As frustrating as it feels, they seem to be doing just fine on their own, so for now, as you said, you have your own missions, that no one other than you can do, and you probably have had the most work to do mentally in terms of adaptation - something you should take pride in !
Miriam , I am so impressed and proud with your video shooting and stories . I wish you and your husband will join the 西瓜 Play too . I surprised you both didn’t participate in the 西瓜 Play 2022 recently at Hainnan . I believe and sure that your videos will be selected as winner / award ! Hope 2023 your name will be listed too . Just humble opinion because I liked both of you videos . All the best .

Not so much fun to do in winter! Did you get used to it though? I feel like I'm used to it now.
Such a beautiful life! Thank you for sharing it with us.
米粒、你的视频总是那么暖心、仿佛看到了久别的中国人的那个年代的人情风土、好感动!
That came out SO NICE!
Not that it's all about looks, however your children are beautiful. ( I'm sure inside as well as out🇺🇲).
a nice couple make a whole new world
永宏的爸爸好年轻阿,还这么帅,怪不得永宏这么帅呢!
Yes that is what I was thinking too !
9:45 祖孙两人一起干活太温馨了。
It is so warm for the grandparent and grandson to work together.

Wonderful. Love this story.
Omg an english speaking video and English subtitles omg it’s so good to hear your voice again Miriam ❤️ I’ve been so patient

️❤️
Love ur vlog..real documented the way of rural China lifestyle..keep the good work..love from Malaysia..
Wow, what a beautiful job they did!
It looks like Huizhou architecture in China. It's very unique, elegant and beautiful!
让我回忆起上山下乡的那个年代,在村里一家盖房多半个村民都会来帮忙,那是候盖砖墙木头房檐多一些,现今都是钢筋水泥,但是心里还是喜欢传统式的中国房,有一种很亲切的感觉。
i love watching this video. it's so down to Earth. no imaginary BS - fantasies i.e. Superwealth, which has no consequence/importance to the every-day person, or society at-large. if she wanted to do a video home-schooling her children in English, that'd be fine, too. it might bore some people, but it serves a noble purpose.
What a wonderful community! I enjoy watching your videos and the great relationship you have with your mother in law.
谢谢米粒记录了这一切 平静的叙述让人的心情也特别的平和。
Thank you dear, you make more people know Qinghai.

Woowzers! What a beautiful video! Keep it up! You do them well! It’s also so nice to see the love in your family! 💕
You are not an outsider, but a creator....you are documenting life Miriam
I really appreciate the picture of grass-roots people’s lives.
Your video made me rediscover what is tradition and culture . Every time watching your videos is a pleasure.
Amazing bond and unity within the family
Miriam , I am so impressed and proud with your video shooting and stories . I wish you and your husband will join the 西瓜 Play too . I surprised you both didn’t participate in the 西瓜 Play 2022 recently at Hainnan . I believe and sure that your videos will be selected as winner / award ! Hope 2023 your name will be listed too . Just humble opinion because I liked both of you videos . All the best .
Thank you so much! We were invited to join, but unable to go due to lock-down 😭
@@MiriamFollin Thanks for the info . Hope you and family are doing well . Please stay safe and healthy. Wish to see your latest update too . God bless
