Are you kidding me a well taken care of 6.5 will go on for ever those things are more bullet proof and reliable than the 7.3 powerstroke. They are not much on power but they get great fuel economy (for a truck) and are dead reliable.

I just bought a new Ram Tradesman 2500 crew cab 4x2 cummins. This is my first diesel and I am head over heals in love. I may feel differently later but right now I love it.
My old truck is a 2001 Ram 1500 318 gaser and off a cliff in a stiff tail wind only gets 13mpg so I’m loving the 17-18 I’m getting in my real truck.
I am retiring soon and we’re buying a 5th wheel and going to travel the US.
Im binge watch you channel and learning alot. Keep up the good work.

That "Forgot to add" is my number one peeve about trucks. I love the lower beds on older trucks- I don't have to buy stairs, steps, running boards or buy specialized trailer hitches to tow anything. I also don't have to break my back to lift something into the bed without thinking about buying a tommy lift.

On most diesels if you do a DPF delete with a performance chip/intake/lift pump and a mild mpg tune you can get high 20mpg on a srw. And one thing I hate is when you go to a huge gas station and there’s one diesel pump but the only car there is a Prius parked at the diesel pump >.

RobsPower Channel even with a delete you wont get 20mpg in city. Trust me, my LMM and L5P duramax get the same mpgs in city and my lmm is fully deleted where as my l5p is stock. But yes on the highway my lmm can get up to 21mpg

The parking problem isn’t the truck it’s the person (that has never driven or parked a truck) that designed the parking lot to maximize the number of parking spaces. I go early in the morning to shop now before the lots fill up. I have also found that I seldom use the stores where I’ve had access/parking problems.

You're not lying brother. Parking lots cater to the prius crowd far too much. I had to go downtown last week for a traffic ticket. I quickly realized that i should have taken the jeep when i saw the underground parking was too low. Only other availability was parallel parking on the street....yah good times.

    • @dedalliance1

That's why I like Costco, not only do they make nice sized parking spaces. They have space between each line separating the spaces. For example, they outline the parking space, and then lets say add 10" to either side, and draw the lines for the neighboring spot so it forms like a 'Bubble' line between each spot. This gives extra room for stuff like larger mirrors, Duallys, and just being able to open your door, even if you're forced to park to one side of the spot.
This picture is what I'm talking about, if my example was confusing, www.google.com/search?q=Costco+parking+lot&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS695US695&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwia9ubaqZXZAhUBUGMKHW9RCaAQ_AUICygC&biw=1366&bih=662#imgrc=yNvRjHmfAWNgqM:

Preaching to the choir brother after having a 02 1/2 ton Silverado for 15 years my new 17 3/4 Ram with Cummings has all the things you noted but one thing My Ram does have is the ability to install confidence that it can pull 16,000 lbs up a hill and most important the thing is going to stop down the other side. I bought my truck while still living in Middle Tennessee I have since moved to the flat lands of NW Ohio and an thinking a gas engine would be a better choice around here for folks like me that don't tow every day. The thing is the new diesels with all the emissions equipment what is the cost of that when things go sideways.

(Yes I know he mentioned it at the end, but he specified duallies, but it can apply to all trucks.) Here’s one more thing to add to the list: having to park in tight parking lots/always having to park far away where there’s space. The trucks are large and can at times take a bit of extra time and maneuvering to park them, so it’s usually easier to just park farther away, where there are no other vehicles to hit. Parking far away is especially annoying when it’s -30 with wind chills of -45. (I’m Canadian, and those temperatures are in Celsius). I know that this does become much easier but parking a truck is never as easy as parking a car. The benefits far outweigh drawbacks such as this, though.

So I bought my first truck back in Sept. 2017. A week old F-150 XLT Sport Supercrew 4x4 with a 5.5 bed and a 5 liter V8. I absolutely love the truck. I can only think of maybe a few things I hate about it.
    1. Damn near impossible to park, anywhere, you're parking out in the middle of no where. I can only imagine how much more fun parking is with an 8foot bed. Be it a Supercab or a Crew cab.
    2. Pretty sure the computer is lying to me. I have yet to see more than 18 mpg. But I do mostly city driving. So about 17.3 is average. Not horrible.
    3. 36 gallons takes forever to fill, I try not to let it get below half anymore.
    4. Bed height/step in height. I've never measured the bed height, but i'm sure its at least 3 feet off the ground. Maybe it would be lower if it were a 4x2 and I didn't have the tow package and 7000 gvwr.
    5. No one's asked me to borrow it r help them move yet.
Love the channel! Keep the videos coming.

#4- Hahahaha! Yeah. At 200 miles, not even 2 weeks, I had the front axle dropped down, and off the suspension came, in my driveway, drilling into the new metal, to install a leveling kit. Neighbors thought I was crazy.
Also, because it's a regular cab, gasoline, my 2500 seems to sit higher than any of the other 2500/3500 4wd 4-doors trucks around here, even some of the big tired ones. Bed reach over is at at my armpits and I'm not a small guy.

I'm 6'2". I've owned plenty of trucks. Always been able to just hop right into the bed. But man, this 2017 F250 is tall as hell. No way I'm just jumping into the bed of this thing. Also, you're right on about the ride. I went from a 2015 Explorer Sport to this F250. I will never go back, but I do miss the highway manners of that Explorer. And the mileage as well! I could do 85mph and get 22-23 mpg with that TT 3.5L. This F250? The second I go over 72mph, I think there must be a bunch of mini-fast&furious ricers stealing fuel out of my tank while I'm driving down the highway. So I do drive slower in this F250 for the most part.

The best mpg I’ve gotten in my truck was 26mpg on a flat freeway at just under 70mph and just under 2,000 rpm. I hand calculated it because I was almost positive the computer was lying to me but it actually was almost 1 mpg better than what it said on the screen (25.4 vs. 26.1). Keep in mind my truck is pretty big. 2002 F350 crew cab long bed auto 3.73 gears stock size tires. Just today I’m averaging 22mpg with mixed driving. (I do have a mild tune and 4” MBRP exhaust installed as well) However I will say that just driving around town I average around 13-14 which is pretty terrible but it’s a big truck so it’s expected. Thanks Love the videos bro.

Another detail to my story is that this was round trip so tail/headwinds were not applicable. You finally said parking. Texas might be built for trucks but in California parking sucks. Parking spaces are both too short and too narrow. Not to mention the narrowness of the driveways in parking lots. It’s gotten so bad that I don’t like to drive the truck anywhere. The other big complaint I have is turning radius. I made a U-turn last night and just hopped the curb, crossed the sidewalk and continued through a dirt lot. LOL. Happens all the time.

I only lost ~200 lbs in the gvwr, but i gained 4" in bed length and a few more inches in rear leg room. One thing i actually do miss is the dual glove compartments on my 2012 RAM 2500, especially the one with the USB plug which I left my old ipod touch connected to.

My 2015 Ram 2500 gets 22 highway with the diesel. Not towing. No delete. City driving varies. Could be 13.5 to 15.5mpg. Ride is great probably because of the coil springs rather than the leafs. I don't have a problem with def. Fill it up once a year. And i'm a fan of clean air. Cost wasn't bad as they gave me a sizeable discount below invoice. It was like getting the diesel option for free.

Just wondering if it’s worth the extra money to get a king ranch over a lariat. I really like the leather in the king ranch and the extra features. I’m looking at a 2014 lariat and a 2014 king ranch. With the lariat being $3,000 lower than the king ranch. Which is the better buy?

So basically the solution is to get a low rider truck with adjustable air bags and 37 tires - easy to wash and reach, no issues getting into the bed and can still handle potholes.
And when your rear end is 95 inches wide YOU MAKE YOUR OWN PARKING SPOT LOL

Thinking about trading my 17 f150 super crew eco boost 2wd in on a 2018 3/4 super crew that is loaded with everything other then the panoramic sunroof that has the 6.2 ltr gas in it with the 4:30 rear gear. What are your thoughts?

I'm happy with mine brother, 6.2 373s. Just keep your trailer weight under 10,000 lbs. The best I can do highway is 16 mpg, 14 mpg combined, 8/9 mpg towing 10,000 lbs.

Shackles I agree my RV is 7100 plus all the Knick knack stuff that goes with it I’m sure it’s somewhere around 8000 and I’m happy with the eco boost but not completely.

    • @OpenAirAdventureFirewood
      @OpenAirAdventureFirewood 6 лет назад

H&P Customs you really can't pull more weight with a 350 because it's a 6.2 gas. Plus on a 350 you have to take the old diesel transmission and your fuel economy may be cut. You would be better off with a 250 with the camper package. Then you get the overload spring and sway bar

Is anyone aware of a portable, one-person-setup, easily collapsible scaffolding / work platform system that you can set up and drive the nose of your truck under in order to work on the midline of the vehicle? All of the 'ladder-based' systems like those from Little Giant that I'm seeing are too low, but maybe I've missed one. As he mentioned in the video, working on any part of a big truck that's close to the midline of the vehicle is a real bother.

  • @joerapo
    @joerapo 6 лет назад

So I'm probably going to get some hate for this. I'm a truck owner FYI. A few of the issues you mentioned have to do with the unnecessarily high ride height. It wasn't so hard to reach into your bed or do something in the center of the truck in the 80s and 90s. It's form over function. As far as parking goes parking spots haven't changed. Trucks and how they are used have changed. At one point most trucks were regular cabs. Now most are quad cabs making them much longer and harder to fit into a parking spot. Dually trucks used to be primary used for heavy duty applications and not daily drivers. If you're having problems just park at the end of the lot. It wouldn't hurt most of us to walk a little.

I don't drive a diesel truck but I have a diesel Cruze and yes getting it into service is a pain and then paying the price once the service is complete is expensive. I also have a lifted 2500 Silverado and yes washing it and getting into the bed is a pain in the butt as I am only 5'3.

You start out talking about fuel mileage, but what mpg do you get when pulling your 5th wheel? I currently pull a TT with an F-150 5.0L gas engine and get 8mpg. Wondering what kind of gain mpg-wise by getting a used F250 diesel. BTW, really enjoy your videos.

Try doing everything you just said on a Class 8 truck. And we have a car wash where I live that is an automatic with all the brushes that can handle an F-450 dually up to 7 ft 4 in tall but you do have to pull in the mirrors.

I agree with you on all of the top 10. But the prices are getting way out of control. 80K for a truck is hard to swallow if you are not making money off of it.

Would like you to address an issue I have. Leveling out your 5th wheel. I drive a 2008 F250 FX4, it has 20” factory wheels. Just as in this video it sits high. I’ve talked to my RV guys trying to get it to sit level. I think my rig rides high in the nose and low in the back, but they say it’s within factor specs. We adjusted the hitch as low as possible. I’m in the process of attaching skid rollers, because I can’t back it into my slightly slanted driveway. Today we have to build a contraption of leveling blocks to back it in or pull it out. Anyway any suggestions on leveling is appreciated!

+Majorproblem55: Have the Morryde SRE4000 suspension added to your fifth wheel, it will raise the body 1.5" higher. Or have a properly equipped RV or trailer shop flip your axles.
