This entire album, Sovran, is a beautiful piece of work. Heavy Lies the Crown and The Wretched Tide (songs 1 and 2 on the album) have some incredible lyrics and melodies to them.

I just love them. I saw them live this spring and it was breath-taking. I almost couldn't drive the car home afterwords, because I was so emotionally exhausted.

Anders, the male vocalist, is absolutely amazing too. Why haven't I listened to them before... This kind of music just hits and fits my mood any time. This particular song is so well made. For anyone else seeking similar music, their fellow Swedes, the band October Tide are a great doom band, they've got a good music video for the song "Reckless Abandon" for example. For fans of Finnish doom, Hanging Garden is a late find of mine. Their song "Penumbra" with Swallow the Sun's Mikko Kotamäki is also worth checking out.

After having seen StS live last november, my next goal is to see Hanging Garden on a gig. By the way, a smaller Finnish band called Skein could also work for you, there's maybe less metal in them but definitely a lot of atmosphere.
I feel like explaining some things^^ First of all, yes, Heike Langhans is part of the band, but only since 2012 therefore older Draconian songs have a different female singer, however the old singer is really good as well, but I prefer Heike. You mentioned Hallatar and I can say that you're not that far off, since Heike also did some guest vocals on the Hallatar album for the song "My Mistake". In fact Swallow the Sun are good friends of them and after Aleah Stanbridge died both bands were really hardly affected by that since Heike and Aleah both came from South Africa and were really close friends. So after Juha Raivio, the fiance of Aleah and the main songwriter and guitarist of Swallow the Sun, wrote the Hallatar album it was only natural that she accepted to be on it. Juha also said that if he ever wanted to perform the Trees of Eternity album, which was the side project he had with Aleah, live on stage there could only be Heike singing the same words as Aleah did. So yeah, this whole story is really sad but this makes their music just so much more meaningful. In terms of Draconian songs I highly recommend you to check out "Rivers Between Us" from the latest album or the 15 minute long "Death, Come Near Me" with the old singer, which are both really beautiful songs that probably could cause depression... Just thinking about these songs makes me sad, but the sadness and despair is what makes these songs so beautiful :)

Hallatars album "No stars upon the bridge" is based on Aleahs lyrics and poems released after she died of cancer. Juha Raivo who is a member of Swallow the sun was Aleahs lifepartner and he was also a part of Trees Of Eternity and formed Hallatar.
The band had only one female vocalist - Lisa Johansson. Heike Langhans is actually the second one. She has joined the band in 2012 and record with them the newest Sovran album. And yes, female vocal in Draconian band is very important part. It's present in almost every their song. If You guys enjoyed her voice, I can recommend you her own project LOR3l3i and also project's in which she's involved to, like: ISON and Hearts of Black Science. These are not metal but you will find it very climatic and atmospheric. PS. I'll prefer Lisa's voice, but both in my opinion are epic. :)

If "beauty and the beast" is a genre you dig, I'd say to give "Seraphic Deviltry" by Theatre of Tragedy (Can't go wrong with Liv Kristine!) a shot, personally, the greatest song of this genre. Have to recommend Gormathon again though! "Land of the Lost" or "Skyrider" are great first songs. I can't be the only one pushing this band!

I worshiped draconian with Lisa. Heike Langhans is just ok, but with Lisa it was a totally different feeeling and experience

Almost all of their songs include clean (female) and harsh vocals. Try either "Death, Come Near Me" or "Heaven laid in tears". Dark and depressing AF.
