Hey Grant, I just want to let you know, that the next mission New Gettysburg and The Hammer Falls contain something called "EUD" Triggers. It was first time I ever experimented with them and once I realized some of the issues, I decided way later (Terran BW) to stop using them. These provide much finer control over certain triggers using memory manipulation but have a few side effects and I'll list them below: 1) SC Remastered introduced extended units (going above 1650 units) but EUDs disable this. 2) Saving is disabled. (main complaint) 3) Even when "Achieving Victory," the post score screen will instead always show the "defeat" screen instead. (causes confusion) What are the EUD intentions? In this mod, it is only used to detect a hero's health and regenerate their health when out of combat.
In addition to the Science Vessel death sound, SC1 sound design was honestly phenomenal. My favorite is the Siege Tank, where when sieging, you here the stepped progression of it extending the legs, anchoring the tank into position, and then priming the cannon, and the siege mode shot is a thing of beauty. The thunderous roar of every shot showed any enemy that you meant business. Kind of sad that SC2 watered down a lot of the sounds (I understand it was audio cohesion on the battlefield, but it just doesn't sound the same, ditto for the music).
Well, Blizz had some genius sound designers for their 90s games but sadly they left in time and in 2010 when SC2 came out there were other people doing the sounds. For me it's the terran units radio chatter that i find the best. Every voice actor gave 110%. Also the protoss. When you hear that Scout saying "psimorph successful" or the iconic "Carrier has arrived!" It just butters my bread. Most gamers dont realise how important sound is until they hear bad ones...
To be specific about how AI Vision works, the AI is every bit beholden to the rules of Unit Vision that you are. A Siege Tank cannot fire beyond its vision range unless another unit is spotting for it, and units cannot fire up cliffs unless something is giving them vision up there. However, the AI knows where your stuff is, and _if_ they're programmed to check, they know what you have. Big "if" on that last part. If you expand, they know where your expansion is. Whether they'll care is another question altogether.
2 things i really like here: Grant doing multiple missions an episode, thus speeding through this relatively long SC1 mod, which I'm sure a lot of people would get tired of seeing fairly quickly And Grant specifically mentioning that battlecruisers were an option near the start of the mission, and then being surprised 5 minutes later when he built a starport and saw that battlecruisers were an option. It's just so relatable
26:15 "We've dealt with an attack wave" Grant said, sending all of his troops away. It'll be fine, he thought. Just as a massive double attack wave came right after xD
23:10 Grant, when you pause the video you can see that SCVs going to the left have a darker color, due to the lighting/reflections going on, than the SCVs going to the right. What really makes it horrible though are the yellow flames lighting up whenever they move. This together really makes it really look like they shift from brown to orange.
@@Flamewarden_Honoushugoshin I believe this mod uses some sort of "Smart AI" to counter what you're building. So you could see at the beginning of the mission Grant was going for Nukes and Ghosts so the AI was attacking with a lot of Siege Tanks then when he transitioned into Wraiths the enemy had almost nothing besides Wraiths, Goliaths and Ghosts
@@Evan-mt7bc Maybe, but sometimes the base game's AI will surprise you, I replayed Eye of the Storm on the N64 version of SC1 a month ago, and the AI countered the Hyperion with millions of scourge (something I never saw them do before)

I could go battlecruisers and trivialize every mission but that just isn't the content I enjoy making. I just note them because if I don't then people yell at me for being blind.
Its okay, I know I'm pretty damn sure it's way more entertaining to see you go 'what funny thing can work here?' Than it would be to see some super giga mega Uber optimal BC mass. Hope you don't let people being weirdly negative like it's a super funny joke discourage you, cus your videos are way more fun to watch than someone getting super sweaty about it all.
@@GiantGrantGamesArchives there's an idea for another playthrough: battle cruisers only for all the people who say you bring it up every time. I'd watch it, for a laugh
17:46 sc1 siege tanks actually have higher DPS when sieged up, as well as it being splash so it has potential to deal even more damage and being longer-ranged. the tank mode attack is really just there for early game attacks before you have siege mode, and for when you're caught off-guard.
I love Executor Nral's stuff... but I can exactly understand why you wouldn't use that campaign here. Thank you for mentioning it though, and the explanation. Peace!
Also I did not know that nukes do 500 or 2/3of max health whichever is higher, so damn the fact that you had the idea for that joke taught me something
Oh grant thank you so much for all your content! Every time I have a bad day & need familiar things to calm down to, I come to your channel, especially SC1 stuff. Really improves my mood every time.
On the psi emitter mission, I played it yesterday and stole the emitter as it was sitting on the ground. The AI got so confused!! 😂 Great series and mod!!!
Big Push is rather easy IF first thing you build is Scanner. Your starting army and Ally tanks+bunkers are enough to kill all Ghosts attacking bunker line, so that only an elevated platform is affected. Then It's just a matter of getting North-West refineries and Nuking the enemy. Either way you need Ghosts for these missions for lockdown, as later enemy will attack with mass BCs - and this is SC base, so Golliaths don't have range upgrade. Also killing Duke with Nukes is very easy, else you need Lockdown or at least 12 own BCs to battle enemy BCs, Duke and other units. And 12 might be not enough. It simply turns into a push, but from the other side.
23:00 Yes, the colors appear to be changing between brown and orange. Other than the Technology Connections videos where he showcased it, I have not seen such a clear demonstration. Starcraft: ahead of it's time
31:57 I could be wrong, Look at the map when the nuke was announced. A red dot appeared near your turrets and tanks on the middle left. Your tanks in the fenced area killed the ghost.
i love how you go "let's long distance mine from this gas, it takes 9 guys" so instead of getting another cc for 400 mins, which would also have a better position on several mineral patches and another slot for nukes/comsat, you decide to spend 300 mins on SCVs (9 instead of the usual 3 means 6 additional scvs; 6*50=300 before anyone starts correcting me)
26:28 Cloaked ghosts - Move them in to the middle, and Hold Position - they auto fire everything around them. No micro, focus fire or targeting. Just Hold Position.
I'm sad to hear that about Nral's version of the mod, but i understand your point, it is better to play the mod as envisioned by the original creator, especially if alterations might "sour" people, then again considering the Duke Nukem joke i think his humor would fit the series like a glove tho XD
23:53 "I definitely have a pre-built-in Nuke sense, and it is a different StarCraft that the nuke sense is from." yeah it is. At 22:32 you tried building a Nuke with only 119 minerals and 359 gas, which would work in SC2 where nukes only cost 100 minerals and 100 gas, but in SC1 Nukes Cost 200 minerals and 200 gas each.
Broodwar siege tanks do more single target DPS sieged up actually. In SC2 they do more single target damage in tank mode due to their high attack speed.
I've watched Executor Nral's series of Sc1 reversed and I was wondering why Grant wasn't running into hordes of enemies at the 5 min mark. I didn't know there were two versions of this mod.
"i hate it when people online are right cause makes me confused and scared" i may have messed it up but that is one of the best quotes ever lol so true!
Something I discovered recently, but you can actually force this. In online Bnet, if you make a game and a player is in the observer slot (which was added in remastered), you can forcibly move them to any slot, including the Computer slot. So you can have a player take over a CPU place in any map you want. The only thing is that the host can not move into the slot.
Little late to episode but at 31:52 there's a red dot that moves into your base through the turrets just right of center then disappears as the nuke launch gets called. Think it was killed before launch got off.

They got blocked in and stacked up till the notification that no more objects could be placed popped up... not sure where they were your playthrough. Can't wait to see you take on endless spawning golden armata in the protoss reverse mission 6 or 7 maybe 8.

I love watching grant see a vespene geyser, ask "is this a base? No." And then ignore the minerals 10 feet away when he actually scouts. Edit for part 2. Marines are great as a mineral dump. They meat shield for siege tanks to get set up, they help clear air, they are better than ghosts or firebats in bunkers. They die to everything, sure, but i can't build more BCs or tanks or wraith due to low vespene, and it is too early game to be running depleted, so send in the boys.
At 31:50 a red dot appeared and disappeared around the middle right of the map, I think it was the ghost that launched the nuke that didn't fall, probably got killed by a tank. Not sure how he got there though...
