de gustibus non disputandum est, much depends on one's musical sensitivity. However beautiful, I personally find it hard to put it in front of absolute masterpieces such as the ninth, fifth, sixth, seventh and third.I find it to be a symphony that is still Mozart but that already heralds future developments. The first movement in some places seems to almost resume the overture of Don Giovanni and herald the ninth with a certain dramatic tension, after all it was composed in the years when Beethoven came to knowledge of his disease which will lead him to deafness. It is an interesting work but in many respects still hybrid and sometimes unripe.

Sounds like the 1800's with Gardiner's orchestra - one of the last piece Louie wrote before his hearing facked off - listen at 1:50 and you'll hear the part of the adagio he used again in the famous 9th.

This symphony is wonderful. It is unjustly not as famous as other Beethoven's symphonies

The only "average" of Beethoven is the first (but even then it tops most pre 39th mozart symphonies). The most underrated one imo is the eight because oft he advanced planning in the finale.

And then you learn Beethoven was going deaf while writing this.

Actually, he was thinking about suicide around the time of this composition.
