  • The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, in collaboration with Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., carried out a cleanup operation of homeless encampment at Venice Beach on Friday, April 28, 2023. Sanitation workers were donned in white hazardous materials suits as part of the safety protocol for the cleanup.
There are two separate waste management teams with different roles working in collaboration. City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, wearing the yellow safety vests, and Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc., wearing the orange safety vests. The Clean Harbor team goes in first to sort through the garbage to identify, collect, and segregate the hazardous waste items such as batteries, urine, syringes, etc. Once they finish collecting the Hazardous Waste, Los Angeles Public Works sanitation workers take over and collect the remaining garbage.
To ensure the safety of all involved, Los Angeles Park Rangers and Los Angeles Police Officers were present at the site throughout the cleanup operation. This weekly cleanup activity takes place every Friday in Venice and is intended to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the area.
The City of Los Angeles has been actively addressing the issue of homelessness in the area, and the Venice Beach clean-up is just one part of their ongoing efforts. The clean-up not only helps to improve public health and safety but also helps to restore the restrooms to their intended use.
It is important to note that these clean-ups are not a solution to the larger issue of homelessness. The City of Los Angeles continues to work on implementing long-term solutions to address the root causes of homelessness and provide resources to those in need.
Overall, the clean-up of homeless encampments at Venice Beach is an important step in improving public health and safety, and providing much-needed resources and support to the unhoused individuals in the area. The City of Los Angeles remains committed to addressing the issue of homelessness in the area, and will continue to work towards long-term solutions.

      sunsensational: Bingo.
Have you found an answer? It can't be just because city workers need work. There's plenty to clean up. Why the police let these bums establish a foothold is beyond me. The police are just letting people rot first and only try to help second. Why not help them first? And the police could start be enforcing a very simple law: no overnight camping.

And its weird to see so many police just standing around watching.

This crap MUST STOP. It should be illegal to camp out on public property like this.
Good to see that Venice is doing something about it, although all these workers are taking more than two times as long to clean it up. Instead of picking through it and moving one piece of debris to another place, put that piece of debris in a large garbage can the first time you touch it. Then, when the garbage can is full, roll it over to the garbage truck. 🙄🤦🏼‍♂️
The sign says that they cannot sleep or camp within 500 feet of a certain area. So, those people will move 500 feet away and become a problem for somebody else. This conduct needs to be illegal. These people should be put in a home someplace and rehabilitated. If they are not able to become rehabilitated, they should be put in a prison, for life. Sorry.
Where is that disgusting man going to take his disgusting garbage now? 500 feet away and become a problem for somebody else.

My hoarder neighbor allowed a woman friend to "camp out" in his backyard and as soon as she started to unload her huge garbage bags she had customers coming through the alley way. Every day it was like a damn day care watching this ONE woman "entertaining" all her "friends" and later jumping our fences to steal whatever she could carry with her. All she did was traffick, get paid and screamed and threw all kinds of things at her "boy" friend who wanted her money. This happened 24/7 every single day until i just calling police about it. She would run out of our yard and everybody else's before we could do anything about it. It took my 2 years to get rid of this tick because my neighbor wouldn't set boundaries on her. He got tired of the cops being called on him! But she left a huge damn mess scattered across the yard that the city came to clear it all out and his junk as well.

I live near a large park in North Hollywood, and the tents are dotted all over, and derelict campers and vans are parked all along the main street. On two corners, some homeless have a pile of garbage and junk. That park is for exercise and leisure, and people walking their dogs and play.
The homeless are making it so, THEY rule everything, and no one else can safely use ANYTHING in this ENTIRE COUNTY!
I just got a huge federal tax bill, and I can't afford it.

When they first cleaned up there were rats scurrying around when the workers started to dismantle. That’s how the black plaque started I believe. Homeless have more rights than residents and business owners who work hard to keep their properties clean & pay huge taxes. It’s just not right.

Not going to stop until the authorities become tough and take it, junk it, and do daily and nightly sweeps. Stop being so nice! Even animals don't foul their living space if possible -like these people do. What has our civilization become where this is a way of life?

Maybe some people want to live like the American Indians ?
People should be encouraged to find healthy solutions.
Zero rent control, loss of low skilled manufacturing to China and loss of cyclical capital by tax evasion has created a drain spiral instead of a cyclically healthy economy.

I were homeless I’d have a one person pup tent and nothing more than I could carry in a backpack so would be mobile - homeless people seem to go to dump sites and bring everything back with them

That’s just nasty I’m so tired of the homeless thinking that the rest has to be subjected to this type of felt we want our communities and beaches to be clean and enjoyable for us to take our family to plus I think the city officials need to be forced to live in that felt then maybe they will get off their butts and put in place a system and order that doesn’t allow the homeless and mentally disabled to turn our communities and beaches into third world countries!!!!
