  • The latest update from Eggleston Hall Nursery Garden with Thomas Wilson at the helm along with Lisa, Helen, Elizabeth and George. It is lovely to catch up and see how things are progressing and learn of future plans and current problems such as horrendous weather, cost of living crisis, massive closures within the industry, and the Eggleston Hall Estate being up for sale...It amazes me with all that they can keep positive and retain a sense of humour....one can only wish them all well in the future and look forward to their upcoming series here at Plantsmans Corner.

I'm glad you are back on a more regular basis. I've missed you. I must say however that I can't believe that someone would knowingly plant pokeweed(phtolacca...) in their garden. I remember my grandmother in the 60s fervently attacking this stuff with a small wooden hand scythe. She would hang her washing out on a clothesline (ahead of her time using solar power). When the pokeweed was in fruit, if the birds pooped sitting on the line it would leave purple stains all over her freshly washed white sheets. Even using bleach, you would have to scrub at getting out the stains. Maybe your birds (in England) are more posh, and might not poop on your property-but its only asking for trouble. It will pretty much permanently stain whatever it lands on (cushions, sidewalks, porches, cars, and the odd cat or dog.)

So many gorgeous plants to covet! I used to let pokeweed grow in my garden when I lived in Raleigh, North Carolina which was considered outrageous. Such a noxious weed. Well, it was very pretty but did get out of hand. It likely doesn’t get so rampant in your climate. Thanks for the tour.

Lovely to see Eggleston again, and Thomas and George of course. Definitely two bonny lads! I hope any new owners of the hall will see the benefits of having a wonderful Nursery on their doorstep. Miss seeing Clara, I hope she is happy in whatever she is doing nowadays. I'm assuming Amanda will still have her studio on site? On my one and only visit to date I visited Egleston and I could hear her lovely voice as she chatted with a customer in the other room. It was a very memorable day for me...and I live in hope of being able to get back there soon. We've moved down south now so it would have to be an overnight visit to the area but there is so much to see around where you are, and I definitely plan to get there soon.😄🤞Thanks for doing the videos again Malcolm, really apppreciate it.

how things change... rough looking and unkempt with the air of vagrancy but enough about Thomas ... its interesting to see the changes a fresh pair of hands on the reins has. good to see the gardens again. it will be good to see Helen and Elizabeth again. What happened to Clara?
I know what you mean about mowing Thomas ... our law was about 30 x 10 feet and I go so fed up with it mowing it a few years ago I sprayed it with round up and put 3 ton of pea shingle and a fish pond on it ... but now my daughter has take over the top half of the garden now and we have a sodding lawn back but she mows it now.😂

I absolutely approve of the vegetable plots. People of all ages are suddenly very interested in how to grow food without disrupting the soil life...may those plots be inspirational and instructive. I'm suggesting they could be "no-dig" (ala Dowding) plots to demo how well the method works for loamy soils and with less work for the gardener. Actually, the work is different - one sows seed in modules and makes compost but does not dig. It's both trendy and timely with climate troubles and I would think the new owners would want to be associated with it. (I predict a knighthood for Mr.D) Might be just the bandwagon to jump on.
