ATV Fishing On The River For Catfish

- On this adventure, I take the Can-Am Outlander 570 and fishing rod through a beautiful cottonwood forest to try my luck catching catfish from the river banks on the Rio Grande river. My go-to bait is using raw chicken liver, but on this day I wanted to try out a new chicken liver bait made by Magic a try. Catfishing the Rio Grande can produce a day's worth of solid luck, but after letting my fishing pole rest, I didn't know what to expect.

Nice to see you upload a new vid, missed you for a while. Hope you and the family are all doing well. A little tip about cats when you're fishing for them, it's not the whiskers in their face they get you, it's their pectoral and dorsal fin that have the spikes on them. I once thought it was the whiskers too, I learned that lesson the hard way a long time ago those spikes hurt 😵. Be well, stay safe. Look forward to a new vid.

Hey Rueben. Great to see you back. I was up in your neck of the woods in late April. Went to San Lorenzo Canyon for a couple of nights. Then tried to goto one of your other spots where two rivers come together. Could not get there due to recent sand storms. So went on up into Colorado and then back to Red River. Camped there one night and then planned to go to Montezuma. But that's when the big fire was already burning. Had to leave early and head home.
Very cool! The Canyon is a neat little place to checkout and do some hiking in. I believe the place you are talking about with the rivers meeting was in Mesa Golondrina. The roads can become nasty due to rain since the roads are mostly made of that clay top. But it sounds like you had a nice alternative to head into Colorado to camp. I am so glad rain has eased the fires and fire restrictions. New Mexico saw its driest 2 year stretch in a long time. Thanks for watching my friend.

Great vid man! been watching your vids on and off for quite a while, love the laid back vibe. Decided to finally take the plunge and purchased an ATV this year to extend my riding season. I normally ride motorcycle and love moto camping, cant wait to do it on the quad... I can take a few more things! Take care and ride safe!

This is the first time I've heard of Catfish whiskers that stab you. What kind of cat fish are those? Must be different than those big Channel Catfish that you can noodle (catch by hand). - - - -

Thanks buddy. This is a nice area to ride and hangout. It’s literally 3/4 mile from my house. Lots of trails down there. In my neighborhood we have a lot of coyotes, but I have never seen a baby pup. It was cool. These catfish can stab pretty good. My brother had a puncture wound that went through his finger nail on a 30 in cat. I am not sure if all breeds have the ability to stab. Here in East Texas where I live we don’t have any places like that to ride . We have to travel at lease 2 hours away . To find mountains in Oklahoma or Arkansas . Your really lucky .

That is wild no trails are in the PNW. It seems like it would be the perfect place to have trails on public lands. NM has a lot of trails and public land opportunity. I've lived here my whole life and still have not seen 3 other national forest we have. My videos have Cibola and Santa Fe national forest. I need to hit the Gila, Carson, and Lincoln areas along with BLM areas scatters throughout. Take care buddy!

Looked like a fantastic time... I miss casting for catfish! Manitoba is known for some great channel cat fishing. Its pretty easy to get your 37" master angler pretty quickly. Have you ever tried jumbo shrimp? it's probably just as good as chicken liver.

Hey buddy. Holy crap, 37 inches is huge lol. On the same river I was fishing only farther south we can find 24 inches and above. I love the fight they have. I have not tried shrimp yet. The pole fit in my box perfectly. The size is about a 6.5ft pole that break in the middle. So you can carry it easy. No problem bud.
