No matter what the other builders come up with, you ain't GOING TO TOP EMDS SD40-2S!THESE GIRLS WILL LIFT TONNAGES OVER GRADES AT SPEEDS NO OTHER BUILDER CAN MATCH. THIS GIRL HAS WITHSTOOD THE TESTS OF TIME!EASE OF MAINTANCE,FUEL EFFICIENT, AND RELIABLE AND DURABLE,AND BUILT TO LAST!SHE IS A CLASSIC LOCOMOTIVE AND NOBODY CAN TOP THIS WORK HORSE,EVER!
That was nice, I jus love watchn these locos bounce up n down, so what was it these locos were pulln, a freighter, or cement train or??? Wish you filmed part of the train too. WAS this video taken along highway 287, jus northwest FT-WORTH or ?? That was pretty Cool.✌️👌👍😊
Looks like there's been a bit of a stink in the news about FWWR and delays they cause in Cresson. Think i'll see if i can find some decals and model one of these SD40-2's though. I love my local north central Texas railroads.
That's number six throttle to five, to six, to five to four down to three. The traction motors drown out the sound to the engine till he throttle down. It's sounds like he's in dynamic because of the hum from the traction motors.
awaken77 I work for this railroad this is the Cresson Turn route. We can not exceed 40 mph on any track on our railroad until it is upgrade for 60+ mph

They're in notch 8 for most of the video, except for 0:17 - 1:21 (notch 7) and after 2:50 (notch 7, 6, 5). The loudest whine is from the radiator fans - hence the sound similar to dynamic brake fans. It's an unmistakable characteristic of second-generation EMD units - the sound of the older 8-blade fans matches the pitch of the prime mover (minus fan motor lag) and is absent on post-1980 units with Q fans. The traction motors can mainly be heard as a higher, slightly variable whine from 0:40 - 1:20 and after 3:00.
@@trainiax People really don't give the pre-Q fans enough credit for how much noise character they give to the older units. It's really a treat when you get to hear one spool up and then you really realize how cool the noise is.
@@fiatman71 The rail line closest to where I live (SLR) still uses GP40's - the trains aren't frequent, but every one of them has that sound. It's cool when one of the fans spins up right as the unit is passing (had that happen a few times)
SD40-2's look awesome no matter what color they're painted in.

This is truly awesome man, there is nothing better than 40-2's in notch 8.
I have ran a few of these back in the day. I love the 2nd generation EMD's.
