I actually flew Daallo Airlines’ MD-80 a few years back when I was going from Hargeisa to Nairobi. It was an ‘OK’ flight- only problem was that there were REALLY rowdy passengers and the crew didn’t seem to care.
That sounds interesting !
I also flew one a while back, I was fascinated by the tail exit

Only og's remember the md-80 tv commercial 😂
I liked the fact that the MD-80 was such a technologically advanced airplane of it's time. It has a G/S /LOC capture feature that I love.
Just saw a couple MD-80s at Fiumicino with Alitalia 2 weeks ago
I saw an iberia md-80 at barajas a few months ago
And still it was always reliable to the airlines. Kinda miss this aircraft design these days, not to mention the wonderful Pratt & Whitney JT8D sound

In my childhood I hated it somehow (so bad that my mom recalled that I caused an entire airplane to disembark), but nowadays I became fond of it
quite a story I'm willing to hear
@@massimolettuce One day I was flying from the City of Medan leaving for Jakarta on a Lion Air MD-88 flight (a lot of people knows how bad the services are), it wasn't long before (or after) Garuda Indonesia rebrand itself entirely. IIRC, I was looking at the plane before entering it but somehow I feel like it's gonna crash (yeah, I still remember some part of it) so I tried to run back to the waiting room letting the plane to leave (even officers and some passengers were overwhelmed by the situation as the officers along with my nom trying to get me onboard) at the end of the day, they end up giving me a substitute flight with a much better seat on a Lion Air B737

What he should of said at 0:00 “This plane is great!”
ok
My mom worked for Ozark Airlines and we would fly the DC-9 and the MD-80. They were such great planes. If you sat in the back, the resonance of the two motors was the best. I was on a MD-80 just several years back for American, I believe. The entire line including the MD-90 and 717 is fun, but the DC-9 and MD-80 were favorites.
The DC-9 and the MD-80 are, and always will be my all time favorite planes.
I love how loud she is !!it was love at first sight when I first saw it! What a beautiful plane!
Swiss: ‘Is there anyone who hates this plane’
The thumbnail: 😐
@ucin sin stop spamming
This is one of my fav looking planes bc it has 3 windows. Also can you react to some of your old videos with text. Oh and fun fact: DC-8 pilots would deploy thrust reversers mid air to slow them down.
I think my first flight ever was on an MD-80. I was just a 10 year old and had no knowledge about planes, but I do remember seeing a stairway in the back going outside. This was American Airlines.
Aww
what? the flight didnt constantly get cancceled. leged goes they cancel and delay so much they never actually flew.
YES PLANES REVIEWS I LOVE THEM
My CAP squadron was invited by World Atlantic Airlines for a private tour of the MD-80 and what an experience. Its a heck of an aircraft and my favorite part was the stairway in the back. When it opened it basically SMACKED down against the ground and it scared everyone.
Great video I love the md-80 as well 😊
Brilliant aircraft. Thrillingly loud when boarding from the rear with the A.P.U. on.
I miss the MD80😭
I flew a lot on these during my childhood and teenage years and they were awesome, if you seated at the very back of the passenger cabin you could hear those JT8D 217 roar on takeoffs and landings but if you seated at the front it was very quiet.. they also were very comfy and roomy.. Operators I flew with were Aeropostal, Laser and Aserca Airlines.. Laser still flies them back and forth between Mexico and Venezuela.
I flew on the MD-80 and it’s not bad, really enjoyed flying it lol
Swiss: THIS PLANE IS LOUD
Just another Swiss002 moment
The MD-80 and only the MD-80 can reverse thrust in mid-air
737: Did you forget about me?
Yes but only at a very low altitude you can activate the reverse thrust in the 737-800 !
C-17 Globemaster
@@aviationchannel6204 Yes they can use reverse thrust for a fast descent but it is still an military plane and not a civil plane like the MD-80

Oh my god how is that possible

2:49 lets just ignore the tail strike...
Actually the aft stairs were locked closed during flight, even if you operated it, it couldn't open. It was a nice and fun plane to fly, as you'd work a little bit more than other more modern planes. Interesting fact: in an engine failure event, the Autothrottle remained engaged and actually gave you a higher thrust limit on the remaining engine, were the autothrottle on more modern planes like the 737NG just must be disengaged. As flight dispatcher, I did a zero flaps takeoff in the cockpit in SAWH where we needed to rocket climb on a obstacle limited runway. Loved it.
i've actually flown in an md80 recently. its an amazing plane to fly, can go almost anywhere and the stopping distance is brilliant. Howverr going into the cabin,it is ridiculously noisy and cold

I love this plane.
me clicking a swiss001 video after school looking forward to swiss saying, “Now hey guys and welcome back to the channel.”
But what we really get:
“tHiS pLaNe Is LoUd”
Supposedly, after Boeing bought out McDonnell Douglas the plane was re-designated as the Boeing 717 - and it may still be flying under that designation. I got to sit in the cockpit of one in Milwaukee while waiting out a storm, and damn if it wasn't the MD-80, (previously called the DC9-80) that I spent years building the electronics for the fuel systems. I have a lot of fond memories of that plane. And - at least in the Boeing variant, the engines weren't any louder than other jets I've been in.
You are right, It was designated MD95 then changed to B717 when Boeing took over. Boeing refused to sell the aircraft and tried to to get MDC customers change their order to B737. Many Customers went to Airbus. Currently Hawaiian flys B717 inter-island and there is a few flying internationally. Worked at MDC 1987 - 2002 in Long Beach as an Air raft Dispatcher.
I love when swiss001 said when MD 80 was going to stop at Saba airport when he said "STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP" lol

I flown it yesterday and I am so happy
Swiss001 = MD-80 is for Mad Dog-80
McDonnell Douglas= Am I a joke to you?
Geez, only the last few years these were taken out of service by Delta and American here in the US. Was born in the 80s and have probably been on more flights on one of these or a DC9 which is even louder for 60% plus of my total flights inside the US. Flew on a Delta (formerly Northwest) DC9 as recently as 2013. Also, the Ilyushin IL-62M, the procedure is to put the reverser buckets out before touching down.
I actually loved that plane since I was born and probaly spent more time in this one than in a 737, thanks Alitalia :) PS : loved the fact that in some older Meridiana ones, if you were seated in the first Rows you could actually hear the GPWS
Ooo yes I would love the GPWS warning system in flight! 😛
Most planes, featiring a tail exit such as the MD-80 had a small wind vane installed that keeps the tail door closed in flight after it was discovered to be an exploitable security flaw.
Some hijacker known as "Dan Cooper" Used the tail exit on a boeing 727 to get away with a heist out of Seattle Tacoma airport. They dissapeared without a trace after jumping out the back with the spoils in poor visibility conditions. A huge gamble for survival. To this day, It is not known whether they died lost, or survived and ran away with the ransome cash.
*He
Andes ( it's almost dead they don't even accept the phone calls ) is an airline in argentina that still operate the md-80
rip md-80 you will be missed
I absolutely love the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 - MD-90 SERIES
Hawaiian airlines is still in fact flying this aircraft, allegiant Air just recently switched over to Airbus complete fleet and I believe their planes went over to a few Russian airlines
The engines talking to decibels:
Db: How loud Will you be?
Engines: *Yes*
Rear air stairs *could* be opened mid-flight until the "cooper vane" became mandated on them, since DB Cooper used the rear stairs on the 727 to parachute out with his ransom money. Since the MD-80 came out after that mandate, they all had that vane. The DC-9 before then, though, definitely.
Swiss can you do another vid of Swisslanding comp bc I do one :) and if u like MD80 you are the person that know who is the company MCDonnell Douglas that company was a legend:)

Yeah its because its not an MD80. You rode an MD82.
In Argentina its flying in Andes Lineas Aéreas, i love travel in that plane
I had flight with Lion MD80/88 years ago, and entering the plane via tail stairs is bit weird.
Hello Swiss from seconds now lol
Most people claim that the McDonnell Douglas MD-80(formerly known as the DC-9-80 & Super 80) is loud and ear-shattering, but the only reason they built it was to make more money for airlines since the plane had a longer fuselage to accommodate 130-172 passengers. Not to mention that Pratt & Whitney was in the process of updating the JT8D during the 1970s to be more quieter, fuel efficient and more powerful than the JT8D-1 through 17 Series, in the Fall of 1979 came the moment of truth, the JT8D-200 with its higher bypass ratio of 1.74:1 and larger fan. The engine entered revenue service in 1980 when the MD-80 Series was finally certified by the FAA for commercial service with Swissair being the very first operator of the type along with Austrian Airlines, Alitalia, American Airlines, TWA, Pacific Southwest Airlines, US Air, Scandinavian Airlines, North Central Airlines, Republic Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Midwest Express, ValuJet Airlines (Merged with AirTran Airways in November 1997), Delta, Midway Airlines, Reno Air, Air Jamaica, Austral Aerolineas, Spanair, Alaska Airlines, Aeromexico, Spirit Airlines and Continental Airlines.
