Decades ago a Jewish friend of mine made this for me and for the last few weeks I've been racking my brain trying to remember the name. MATZO BREI!!! It's a good old fashioned Easter/Passover miracle! Off to buy some matzo.

Please make more matzo brei recipes Sam!
It's the ultimate underrated munchie food. As an Italian that grew up in a Jewish neighborhood in Queens NY I make it CONTSANTLY. Always a good pick me up with some good quality grape or berry jam.

Back in the day, they sold Nyafat.. which was like crisco with onions blended in. You would slather that down first before adding the matzo and egg and it gave it that extra flavor.

We totally save bri for the end of the week, to wrap it up and so Abba can do ‘breakfast for dinner.’ 🤣. Didn’t see the raspberry jam coming though!

We like it with lox and cream cheese with capers, the savory way. With jam is great too. Just depends on the mood of the meal.

This is how my great grandma & grandma made matzo & egg as I grew up knowing it. Except never jam. Salty. I make it once a week or more with everything matzo & savory seasonings. I'll have to try the jam!

I been on a kosher recipe kick lately so I’m interested in trying this soon, I think it might be a hit with my Toddler. Do have any experienced reasoning about salting the eggs before cooking? I find that if scrambled eggs come out too watery and soft if I salt before they’ve cooked most of the way. I know you’re introducing an ingredient that could potentially change the whole dynamic though

Never ever tried jam on the Brei, but I will NOT eat it unless it’s got grilled onions+sugar sprinkled atop the onions like Mom used to make.

In my opinion, two eggs was too much for that small amount of Matzoh. Also, we would beat the egg with milk, not water, then soak the Matzoh in it, drain the excess mixture before frying it. What he made, must have tasted like a fried egg.

Dude, you wasted 30 Liters of water to use less than a cup. What if you just heat up some water next time over the stove? Would it really have bothered you that much?

It's odd... I realize that the line between sweet and savory is generally pretty fluid in Ashkenazic cuisine. The same goes for brunch foods. Yet, matzoh brei, which seems like the perfect crossover of the two, strikes me as a dish that should only ever be savory. I'm not sure why. Maybe if I were to try it with a pepper jelly or onion marmalade, I could slowly come to accept this idea... but probably not.

Fork (or any metal) in a non-stick pan is not okay. There is a reason the pan here is chewed up. Zero credibility for everything as a result. ...and your matzo brei isn't very good.
