Thanks! Just had it stick permanently(no more intermittent) . I used the WIS online to remove it. I had to tap the tip of the cylinder hard on the pavement to pop it out. From there i worked it back and forth. I couldn't understand where it was sticking. I gave a shot of WD40 just under the top as it was popped out. soaked it up with napkins. Still showing up on the key. Just kept wiping key down. Put it back works great now!. I think the worn metal turns to fine powder and gets jammed in there.
I just used a bicycle chain Teflon lube. The key cylinder is a mechanical piece, there's no electronics so no, you don't need to disconnect the battery and there's no worry about the alarm going off. The car won't even know the cylinder has been pulled out.
@@kmercuryc Ty for the reply! Will be testing this out today, tired of reinserting the key 2-3 times every time im out for a ride to make it pop back up.
There's a tiny cutout (you can't see it, you'll have to go by feel) and inside that there's a pin you have to depress to unlock the cylinder. You can find more instructions by using WIS online. saabwisonline.com/
@@Jandejongjong It's not the contact. It's the cylinder itself that will stop popping up when you remove the key, the lube inside the moving metal pieces dries out and it starts to stick. This does not apply to 2003-2011 Saab 9-3 sport sedans, 9-3 Sport Combi or 9-3 convertibles. Those have a different ignition and key system.

Hi Sir!
I did exactly as you are describing in the clip but for some reason the car is not starting any more!
Any advice please?
What lubricant did you use? do you need to remove the negative cable from the battery, any risk of the alarm goes off?

Great job :)
Thanks! Just trying to help others going through the same thing 🙂
I can’t take my cylinder out because my ignition won’t turn at all. Any clue how to take it out without being on the “offf” position?
So, you're saying you can't turn the key at all or start the car?
Hey how did you remove this unit I’m trying to remove mine cannot get it

If you have a Saab 9-5, it's just a matter of time before you'll go through this too. Same with OG 9-3's.
