I do often play with my eyes closed. It's just a habit, but it does generally hold true that the less one focuses on visuals the more deeply one can listen.
is there a name for the technique for what you were doing in the bridge to caravan - specifically when you play a chord kinda staccato but trap the resonance with the pedal quickly?
I call it "fortepiano pedaling" but I don't know if that's an official name at all. If you have "Playing Solo Jazz Piano," it is discussed on page 37. 😜
