I really appreciate how you give value to books as physical objects as an artist! It makes your book hauls a lot more interesting! I also love Books Unbound and I would love to know what are your mashed potatoes books!
I love 84 Charing Cross Road! I’m not much of a rereader but I’ve read it several times, it’s one of those books that you don’t want to put down once you’ve picked it up. The movie is also lovely. The producer Mel Brooks bought the movie rights as a birthday present for his wife, Anne Bancroft, because she loved the book so much!
Adore Books Unbound! I'm doing the same thing you're doing with their podcast with your videos! 😊 I'm a little late to the party here but your energy and joy is just infectious
I who have never known men is one of my absolute favorite reads from this year, 5 stars, so special. It's melancholic but also hopeful at the same time - I could not put it down and had to stay up til 4 am to finish it. Can't wait to see how you feel when you get to it!
What a lovely day for you. I enjoyed your book haul. I’m interested in all of them. I would love to hear your reviews on “A Book for Christmas” and “I Who Never Known Men”. I added those to my list. Enjoy your snowy day. Happy Reading 📖
I think your tree is so nice and festive. I have to admit I'm a bit jealous of the beautiful uk covers.❤️ I just found this podcast recently and I love it as well. My other favorite is The Bookcase.
84 Charing Cross Road is fun and a delightful read! It is nicely paired with a middle grade book that I love - A Place to Hang the Moon - Kate Albus (if you haven't already read it). That one reminds me a lot of Kate Dicamillo's style of writing and has nods to Narnia.
I adore 84 Charing Cross Road! I read it back when I lived in NYC and read the whole thing while commuting on a weekend (the subway was down hah). Made what would’ve been a frustrating day into a whimsical and delightful one.
I love books unbound, I watch it every week, they are great! 84 Charing Cross Road is one of my favorite books. I love it. There is a great adaption, with Anne Bancroft, Anthony Hopkins and Judi Dench, it is super if you ever get a chance you might like to watch it. As a side note, Anne Bancroft was obsessed with the book, and Mel Brooks her husband bought it as a love gift to Anne to play Helene Hanff .
I have not seen that cover for ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ but it does look very festive, that book is also on my TBR. See if you can find the one with the sprayed edges, it’s hardback and has the chemical symbols in blue, running down the side of the pages. By coincidence, the 1st book you mentioned by Susannah Clarke, I picked that very book up from the library this morning. I am going to read it once I have finished my current read ‘ Listen for the lie’. The Susannah Clarke book looks enchanting. I’ve not read any others of hers yet. I think you will love 84 Charing Cross Road it’s probably now a classic, the relationship that develops between the lady in the US and bookseller in the U.K. is beautiful and I think you will appreciate it How beautiful that it is snowing after you put your Christmas tree up, so festive and cosy 🎉
Oh no:/ I wrote a long comment about swedish authors I would recommend as a swede but I think it disappeared so I will try again:) For more modern ones: Ia Genberg Sigge Eklöf Karin Smirnoff Ann-Helen Laestadius (sami-swedish writer) Andrev Walden also has a book that is super popular in sweden and that is being translated to english next summer (Bloody men is the english title) Classical ones: Karin boye- Kallocain (you can find it in a penguin black classic edition) Moa Martinsson- Women and Appletrees Hjalmar Söderberg- Doctor Glas Astrid lindgren (yes they are children books but they are still amazing) If you are able to purchase from outside of the nordics I would also recommend novellix since they have collections of shortstories from swedish authors in english and also very nice bookends:) Hope Something of this may be interesting for you or other:)
I knew you were going to say Ariel and Rayleen as you began your introductory comments!! I love their banter and their friendship, as when you and Emma get together…you are all a delight to watch. I am still in the midst of Howl’s Moving Castle, relegating myself to a chapter a day throughout the month. I loved 84, Charing Cross Road, and I will be adding the Swedish Christmas book to my wishlist. Thank you for a lovely video, as always!!📚❤️
Hi Carolyn! Lovely book haul! I am especially interested in the one by Selma Lagerlof....I read 'The Wonderful Adventures of Nils' earlier this year and found it charming! I love that you have snow. No sign of it yet here in Maine but hopefully we get some soon!❄ I will check out that podcast - sounds amazing.
I picked up a Dianna Wynne Jones book (Fire and Hemlock) the other day in a local book swap station. I've never read a DWJ book before. I need to get to The Winners (the final in Frederik Backman's Beartown trilogy) while the other books are fresh in my mind, and I read the other two last year. I'm considering re-reading The Magic Toyshop or The Bloody Chamber even though there are soooooo many books on my shelves I haven't yet read.
That's so funny, I have Susanna Clarke's Midwinter book too, and also hadn't noticed that it's in the Norrell and Strange universe. I just reread Norrell and Strange in autumn and am looking forward to hearing your conversation with Emmie.
Most Awesome Video , Thank You So Much For Sharing Your Wonderful Book TBR's With Us😊I am Currently Reading Tales from The Celestial Realm By Sue Lynn Tann( Love Her Book Series Much), Starting with my First Goethe: The Sorrows of Young Werther; I am still With Frodo and Sam in The Dismal Land of Mordor in The Lord Of The Rings( My all Time Favorite Book🤗📚) Will Read The Wonderful Little Women This coming December😊👍👍Lessons In Chemistry sounds Very Interesting and Would Love to See a Vlog On It😊👍👍.I Have Read 84 Charing Road, It Is Such a Wonderful Book😊👍👍
I love beautiful books. Everything Brian Selznick is immediatley a beautiful book. The handwritten. Have you seen The Handwritten Classics/Barbara Heller editions, with the pull out letters and ephemera? They've done Pride and Prejudice, Persuasian, Emma, Sense & Sensibility, Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, I'm not sure what else.
Without being able to explain why I'd say my favorite cover was on Never Known Men. In art, not being able to explain why is important to me. Thanks, and merry Christmas to you and Leon.
The collection of short stories about Faerie...The Ladies of Grace Adieu by Susanna Clarke is wonderful too.....I remember being so excited waiting for it to come out, after having adored Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell. And Lud in the Mist by Hope Mirrlees is on my pile ready for Christmas reading.... similar sounding to Jonathan Strange, about a town on the border with Faerie. 🩷🌱
I also liked Howl, but absolutely did not like House of many ways. I'd love to hear what you think abt Castle in the clouds, maybe I'll decide to read it after all if it's closer to book 1 than book 2.
Carolyn can i recommend classic uk Christmas Book The Box of Delights by John Masefield poet laureate its the 40th Anniversary of the Book and it was also made into a TV series by the BBC if you have a chance to see the television series it is quite often shown on tv leading up to christmas and it’s also available on dvd and is just coming out on blue ray,I remember watching it in the lead up to christmas when it was first aired Christmas 1985 ❤
I don’t know if you have read this one but I just finished “Yours from the Tower” by Sally Nicholls a lovely epistolary novel that I think you would like 🙂
84 Charing Cross road, I have read a couple of times. The movie was fab too🙂. The so-called sequels of Howl’s were nowhere near Howl’s in terms of the originality and world building. And I absolutely hate pd the protagonist of the house of many ways🙃
may i be honest? although your heart is likely in the right place, i think carolyn would rather not get feedback like that. i think it would make her uncomfortable

right? it's kind of my comfort book...
Such a feelgood book with witts and charm in abundance, might have to reread it soon too!
I have loved the movie with Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins and watched it several times.
I absolutely loveee books unbound, those women make my monday and bring me sm joy ☺️
Adore Books Unbound!
I'm doing the same thing you're doing with their podcast with your videos! 😊

You are always so lovely and inspiring. Thank you!
I adored the humour in ‘84 Charing Cross Road’, such a fab book.
What a wonderful haul Carolyn! As wonderful as you 🥰 thank you for the ray of sunshine!!

What a coincidence! I bought Susanna Clarke’s novella just the other day and thought to myself “wow it’s so beautiful, Carolyn would adore this!”
What a lovely haul, Carolyn! 84 Charing Cross Road is so good! Hope you love it! 💖
Love the pyjama pants! ❤ Lucky you, you saw snow. Enjoy! ❄
This is no doubts the book haul i’ve enjoyed the most by far in a big while🤍 lovely vibes and picks, thank you☺️

Yay! I love Ariel and Rayleen!! 😁
Oh no:/ I wrote a long comment about swedish authors I would recommend as a swede but I think it disappeared so I will try again:)
For more modern ones:
Ia Genberg
Sigge Eklöf
Karin Smirnoff
Ann-Helen Laestadius (sami-swedish writer)
Andrev Walden also has a book that is super popular in sweden and that is being translated to english next summer (Bloody men is the english title)
Classical ones:
Karin boye- Kallocain (you can find it in a penguin black classic edition)
Moa Martinsson- Women and Appletrees
Hjalmar Söderberg- Doctor Glas
Astrid lindgren (yes they are children books but they are still amazing)
If you are able to purchase from outside of the nordics I would also recommend novellix since they have collections of shortstories from swedish authors in english and also very nice bookends:)
Hope Something of this may be interesting for you or other:)
Annika Thor!!! Faraway island, Lily Pond, Deep Sea, Open Sea (it's a quartet). It's young adult and it's amazing, so touching and profound.
@@chomudushaty!! love to get YA book recs!

I am so exited for the new video! Perfect for my snack time ❤
I would be very interested about your opinion on Lessons In Chemistry!
84 Charing Cross Road is such a good book - definitely recommend the movie too - possibly even more charming than the book!
The Wood at Midwinter is on my TBR too!
I think you will like 84 Charing Cross Road. I read it years ago and loved it. You inspire me to read it again.
Hello! I predict you will love 84 Charring Cross Road. 😊 I also recommend its follow up, The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street. Happy Reading!
ooh, ty! i didn't know there was a follow-up! yay--going directly to my holiday wish list!
You’re welcome!❤️
The pajama bottom just goes to prove, you can never go wrong with a classic. Enjoy and thanks for the video.
I have to get A Book for Christmas just on the cover alone!🥰

The last time that it snowed this early in U.K., there was a white Christmas 🤞🏼
Congrats on the snow! we just had some snow here as well. You were pretty close with how you pronounced Selma Lagerlöf!
Without being able to explain why I'd say my favorite cover was on Never Known Men. In art, not being able to explain why is important to me. Thanks, and merry Christmas to you and Leon.
Helene Hanff also wrote‘Letter from New York’ by Manderley Press ❤
i also picked up i who have never known men....looking forward to getting to it
I've read both Lessons in chemistry and I who have never known men.
You are in for a treat!
I loved 84 Charing Cross Road! ❤❤

How are you getting these books back?!
I just finished I Who Have Never Known Men last night. Wow. A great story, heartbreaking.
It's snowing outside, and the Christmas tree is up. Is there ever a better moment to cozy up with a good book by the window? 😊
If you want to read Swedish authors you should read Marianne Fredriksson.
❤📚🎄❄️❤
Oh oh .. loved your bookshelves. New?

see Digging for God by Tom Hillman
I don’t know if you have read this one but I just finished “Yours from the Tower” by Sally Nicholls a lovely epistolary novel that I think you would like 🙂
Carolyn are you still in England, loved this ❤
Please read more Murakami! Kafka on the shore, After Dark or Wild Sheep Chase - Dance Dance Dance!
Howl's moving castle was pretty average, tbh.
Carolyn the last season of Outlander is coming on Friday !😢 Do let us know your thoughts❤
84 Charing Cross road, I have read a couple of times. The movie was fab too🙂. The so-called sequels of Howl’s were nowhere near Howl’s in terms of the originality and world building. And I absolutely hate pd the protagonist of the house of many ways🙃
Lessons in Chemistry
I used to love watching you unwrap the gifts that people sent you. Why don’t you do that anymore? Xxxxx
you're such a cutie patootie
may i be honest?
