A lot that hated PC2 just honestly can't admit they wanted the physics to be like GT and Forza and were upset you actually have to approach certain car classes and car disciplines differently from one another and just blamed the studio and game for their bad skills lol
PC2 wasn't without faults. I remember doing a tyre test with Formula Renault. I ran the tyres all the way down, and not even a blown tyre because of it.
Project Cars 2 - now EIGHT years old - is still my favorite VR car sim and runs on my old $2000 PC. I can't understand why it hasn't been replaced yet...
Every time I watch or read one of these analyses that delve into EA's decision-making logic and corporate narrative, I just dread the future of the WRC franchise, which happens to be my favorite motorsport... I guess I just will have to keep on playing Dirt Rally 2.0 until the end of times...
I follow this channel for some time and I have to admit - the best video so far! Very good job. Nicely presented, good commentary and reasonable approach towards Project Cars (which got lots of hate among hardcore sim racers). It is a shame it ended up like that. Project Cars 3 has been a massive mistake. PC1 and PC2 had great potential and Reiza shows that there is lots of there to sqeeze out of the Madness engine.
I hope Reiza get the madness assets from EA and maybe even hire some former SMS employees but i doubt EA woulda do something actually good for once and the Madness engine is probably lost forever
I wished SMS had made a dedicated rally sim as the rally cross and driving on loose surface was amazing and tarmac while not perfect was light years ahead of anything dirt could achieve 😩
PC2 was my first experience with RX, and I fell in love with it. You're right on about the different surfaces. Both levels of RX cars were a blast to drive IMO. These cars were even fun in the ice/snow.
@@lordfatcock Speaking of rallying, EA buying Codemasters is the final nail in the coffin for the DIRT series. Dirt Rally 2.0 might have been their last hurrah as well.
I truly hope they take the WRC franchise places, but the fact that they killed project cars is incredibly lame. I'm sure it's because 3 was a gigantic flop
The mobile game (Project Cars Go) was also awful. Amazing that 10+ years later and Assoluto Racing and Real Racing 3 are still the best titles on mobile.
They shot themselves in the foot with PC3. Stupid decision. It was a flop as it was nothing like PC1 and PC2. Imagine if GT7 was released as a Need for Speed competitor? 🙂
I've been playing EA games since the 90's, even though they claim their games are simulation, they're in reality always arcade. They'll chase the casuals, kids, who can be manipulated into buying microtransactions. EA pulled the plug on Dirt Rally 3.0 when it was 90% complete. The only dev studio under their wing that have any sort of creative freedom is Respawn. Every other dev studio is shackled, working under strict conditions. They'll bastardise every simulation title under Codemasters.
@@Bolkiebasher It's being salvaged for the WRC game, as the timeframes were basically the same, and really two of the same game, isn't really good business sense. still will get it's shit kicked in by RBR though.
EA is murdering Codemasters and SMS, I've played CM games since I could hold a gamepad, but EA are going to ruin all of this.

It would be interesting if the PC devs were for AMS2, since it's on the same engine. Maybe from that, a singleplayer campaign or a more worked multiplayer would emerge.
Getting adquired by EA just means they want no niche markets. Its pretty sad that one of the greatest producers for RTS games ( another niche genre) in the early 2000s has completely abandoned the purpose of making games for the sake of delivering a high quality product in exchange of mass appeal and extreme profit. They dont simply deem Project Cars non-profitable. They simply consider its not profitable enough and has no potential to grow into a more social game. This mentality is outlandish to me, but I guess Im not managing a portfolio of hundreds of millions of revenue every year, so what could I know. Tbh, I dont really understand how can they close an ongoing project so hastily. Im scared for other studios in the company, because if project Cars was shafted for such petty reasons, then I can imagine any form of launch failure ( except from the main EA branded franchises like battlefield) is going to push entire games, or franchises to diie early in development.
I'm beginning to worry about F1 23, since the news of Codemasters CEO and CFO leaving is new to me. knowing that their Chief developers are still there, that means there could be hope... but only time will tell
EA is going to single handedly ruin half of the racing game franchises in the span of a few years. It's a real shame the big guys at MS and Sony only want to invest in one series each, both being massive disappointments that do more harm to the genre than good
EA treats games like money grabbing machine, not art. They keep releasing meh product on timely basis with outrageous microtransactions. Kinda ironic because they have "Art" in their name.
I don't understand either I know some games eventually get discontinued but removing them from stores is just stupid only good thing is anyone who brought them before it got removed from stores can still redownload it but they won't be able to buy DLC.
the original 2015 pCARS i think was the best semi-casual sim racer. i miss the aussies calling out the bad drivers and trash talking each other in the lobbies. the tyre changes in pCARS 2 were detrimental to the casual experience. too much time was wasted on slowly warming up the tyres. shame the series is dead now.
EA obviously didn't like the reaction to PC3, and decided to cut their losses. This is generally what happens when you shit on a game too much, the publisher gets jumpy. Silent Hunter fans know this only too well.
Project cars killed it's self. The 1st one had so much potential with the talent they hired and the amount of real world racing drivers they used to help with development, and it fell a little short. I thought that's ok the next one will build on what they currently have, unfortunately the second one was a step back then the third was a major step in the wrong direction. In short they killed them selves.
Honestly, I feel thkful cuz this game can still be modded (tough since it isn't mod-friendly, but the community is trying their best, and this is what keeps the game still on-going even today). Honestly, pCARS 2 isn't any kind of hardcore but a casual sim, yes it does have some weird physics but its VR performance make it the most immersive sim I've ever played. Sad to see a community-based game died so soon, AMS2 is definetly a spiritual successor of PC for me (or just me, I dunno)
@@famv7 it's like they are trying to cover up the past. They don't want the newer generation of gamers to know that games are not supposed to be buggy and trash.
You guys are dumb, they remove older racing games because the licences expire and redoing those expensive contracts are simply not logical as they drive the budget up and sales won't be the same as launch, so they will lose money. Every publisher does this.
@@famv7 you are right. Project cars 3 isn't even that good like the first and second one just look at the reviews project cars 3 didn't even get 70 percent of reviews but the first and second one got 84 percent.
They killed the franchise when, instead of perfecting the most excellent game they had in pcars2, they got greedy and went for the easy money with the casual arcade market.
You missed the link between Shift 1, 2 and PC3. SMS made Project Ferrari as a demo, EA paid SmS to make a NFS game with their engine. Shift 1 and 2 came out then EA lied to SMS and tried to bankrupt SMS by paying them to be in limbo and not make a game. So they broke away from EA and then started Project Cars 1. Project Cars 3 was a sequel to Shift 2 but the publisher forced them to name it Project Cars. Such a long drawn out drama for this team just trying to make the best racing games they can lol.
Shift 2 was so good. Still have it. Struggled with it at first, until I tweaked the controller settings. Tuning the car also influenced the driving immensely. You really had fiddle around a lot until you found the sweet spot of every car. I think that is what turned people off. Which was a shame, because once you had full control of the car, the driving was unrivalled by any other car game, nor has been. Not even by Project Cars series.
@@zensoredparagonbytes3985 I agree the drifting is still probably the best drifting in a game outside of Car X Drift. But like you said you had to fine tune the cars out of the box, which isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Is anyone actually surprised this happen ? The PCARS franchise didn't sell well enough, it's the reason SMS was sold to Codemasters BEFORE EA bought them. All this means is those assets will be better utilized in the future from a staff without $ concerns during development. GRID is next in line from sources (unverified) after the last DLC is released. Now what EA does with all these assets is all on them, going to be interesting.
I've dealt with more than 20 years of EA BS, giving them the benefit of the doubt would be stupid on my part. And yeah Pcars3 was a huuuge mistake, they pissed on their loyal fanbase and Pcars 4 would've been a hard sell even for most of the most loyal fans. But if they made a Pcars2 done right (like AMS2) it could've been a triumphant success.
This video just made me worry about the upcoming WRC game. It will be on a yearly basis, probably not focused on realism, but on profit, so we're not getting DiRT Rally, and probably not Kylotonn's WRC style either. I guess we'll have to stick with DiRT Rally 2.0 and RBR... Shame.
Project Cars 3 was a spiritual sequel to the team's previous "Need For Speed: Shift" series, which I loved. It's a pity it managed to look worse than its predecessors, though. I really enjoyed the simcade direction and felt it was a pity they chose the PC3 title.
Ian Bell killed project cars. Classic case of over promise and under deliver, and being an arrogant piece of work on top of that. Alienating and insulting genuine supporters/fans of the game asking legitmate questions regarding things that where promised but never implemented for silly reasons, then releasing the utter travesty that was PC3 (and having the balls to call it a simulation) killed it all. It's a shame he got $$ by selling it to EA. Should've gotten nothing.
Its sad that they went this way. Back in the day I had so much fun with the driving force GT steering wheel and the WTCC’s, Gt legends/ race games. They could be hard sims or just casual but great fun. I miss that
This is just a massive disaster for racing games, Dirt is probably completely dead to be resurrected as a "live service", Both WRC and F1 licenses are probably gonna get even more monetization year over year and EA certainly won't want to put out any franchises that might step on Need for speeds toes whenever new titles are about to come out. This is basically a monopoly on sim racing games when it comes to consoles, PC at least still has Beam.NG and other small studio games with some promise
How on earth microsoft has all these lawsuits and anti trust organizations taking them to court over the purchasing of activision, and yet companies like EA get to gobble up half the damn gaming industry, destroy the teams and projects, and assimilate them into their gelatinous blob of a corporation without so much as a wimper is something I will never understand. Its companies like this that are the reason why the gaming industry feels like its stagnated over the years, and now we keep playing the same damn games over and over again. Because they have like 5 seperate development studios all working on the same IP every single year pumping out the next one, and the next one, and the next one like an assembly line. They are completely sucking out the passion and creativity the industry used to be known for. Such a damn shame, as it seems SMS was willing to accept pc3 was a huge mistake and they sounded like they were going to go back to making a proper realistic sim. All I wanted was pc2 but more. More classes, more cars filling out the classes, more tracks, more polish and that sequel would have been phenominal. I loved the direction they took project cars 2, where you can simulate some of the greatest racing series of all time, and can really go wild with playing any car class on any track, you could even do a freaking gt3 race on a rallycross track if you wanted to! It was just fun. Now that whole team is probably going to be put onto the grid or need for speed assembly line so they can pump out their games at 12 percent better speed. This is really depressing.
As a fan of the TOCA Race Driver series by Codemasters and Project CARS series by SimBin, I am deeply disappointed of what is happening in the world of racing simulator games.
The thing that confused me is that Project Cars 3 is Shift 3 basically. People can complain it's arcadey all they want it's what it is I played Shift 2 which was a Sim before PC3 and it was as clear but for most people they hadn't and it was simply also 10 years of a gap since people even played Shift 2. But also makes sense because why go back to the Shift formula when it's Project Cars not NFS Shift it doesn't make any sense. Besides whatever Bandai Namco wanted from the game. Otherwise it would be a competitor to Grid maybe??? But otherwise why not have 2 circuit racers EA? Otherwise. Dirt also going is strange because it fills a rally space well besides WRC but as Codemasters will have WRC now it's maybe not as needed? Even though they are different styles of focusing on rally. Either way EA kills things because why not. They wanted WRC and F1 that was obvious because of licenses just like sports ones. I'm surprised Grid Legends even released at all but I enjoyed it so I'm glad it was worth it (best modern racing game I've played compared to GT7 being a mess and praised when to me it's the worst modern racing game I've ever played). Not played iRacing or Assetto Corsa but still. I mean Gravel was a fine tv show focused rally game but I can't think besides what MX ATV or so that's really rally and that's quad bikes, Ride is your Forza with bikes type game and otherwise I can't think of many others.
If only AM2 had a single player. I wanna go from zero to hero in a sim-like game on PC. I wanna try to recapture those feelings of playin Gran Turismo 4 for the first time again
It is now 2024. Well I have Project Cars 3 and only got it for the VR support and was on sale on STEAM. PC3 is definitely not a SIM game. One main Reason - NO PIT areas. So there are no Fuel strategies in any races. There are other reasons, but this is the main one for me. PC3 is an Arcade game and probably not many serious PC people purchased it on STEAM. That said, There will be never be a Project Cars 4, no matter what someone said about it.
Cancelling a game based on poor reception would've killed the nfs series over a decade ago. They just like cancelling great titles that's really all there is.
Because EA intentionally undermines great franchises, causing the bad reception, then cancels them instead of fixing the problems they caused. Yes, I am blaming EA for PC3, because the change in direction was influenced by Codemasters, who purchased SMS specifically to appeal to EA. EA has been trying to get their grubby hands on SMS since NFS Shift 3 was cancelled in an attempt to poach their staff, tech, and assets. They finally got their wish. Scumbags!
@@kuriankeralaIndia with that logic they should cancel GRID too then along with a couple other codie titles, 1 game in a good series doesn't make for a nail in the coffin it's just EA being EA.
Project cars 2 is an incredible game, guys make it simple an please reconsider making project cars4, but starting with the vision an the info from project cars 2 and I’m sure it will the best sim ever, please reconsider this diamond in the ruff!!!
So, it sounds like they took over Project Cars just so they could dump it in the trash so they could boost sales of F1 racing. They could've had the best of two worlds by having select F1 cars in Project Cars 4 but not have a full line up of cars and tracks. They could have easily taken Project Cars 2 source code, add some cars, add some visuals, and made some upgrades then call it Project Cars 4 Return to Sim Racing. Then again this is EA we are talking about, and I suspect they don't know much about what the consumers want; see NHL for PC for example.
I'd like to know why both Dirt 4 and Dirt Rally have been delisted without so much as a peep...yet we were given several weeks notice ahead of the delisting of both PCARS1 and 2. Maybe I missed the announcement? Kinda sucks, I was planning on picking up the old Dirt titles the next time they went on sale.
PC3 felt like a EA decision. slightly mad studios were always more towards the Sim Style and PC2 was such a good SIM 1 not so much bit clunky. I was hoping they’d return to their routes with PC4 but seems it’s not to be
Sad EA killed this series. Hopefully they don't kill everything else codemasters does. Unfortunately it's their track record. Hopefully project cars can get a revive one day.
I used to play and still have all those old simbin and race games they were great, then PC1, PC2 and some others........ when Project Cars went all EA and screwy...... I used to tell everyone I knew that Automobalista 2 uses the same engine as Project cars 2.... so use that instead of Project Cars 3 as it wasn't really Project Cars anymore...... I don't think they heard or took any notice or thought I was insane for saying it........ Auto 2 may not have all the cars everyone likes or even knows, but still, it is a great car racing simulator
Really looks like EA were just being EA. Buy a studio pretty much to close down competition. They should try upping there game instead of removing alternatives. As soon as a company says games are not just about the play, you know they are not interested in good content, unless they can charge extra for it. Just let these smaller studios do their thing and if the games suck, they will soon dissappear anyway. I have to admit, the last Project cars game I have is 2.
I really want to play some more Automobilista 2, but I personally have trouble playing the game on Controller because of how sensitive it feels to turn the car with my Thumb Sticks.
the time trials in PC3 was annoying { difficulty settings would not change the time restraints } ... just stick to racing and keep the pit lanes and lose too many screens between races { Forza Motorsport 7 }.

PC2 wasn't without faults. I remember doing a tyre test with Formula Renault. I ran the tyres all the way down, and not even a blown tyre because of it.
@@TheFurryInShamblesThat is what I always thought too 😜👍
Project Cars 2 - now EIGHT years old - is still my favorite VR car sim and runs on my old $2000 PC. I can't understand why it hasn't been replaced yet...
EA: Can we live service this?
Dev:Well it dep-
EA:CANCEL IT NOT ENOUGH MICROTRANSACTIO S
Every time I watch or read one of these analyses that delve into EA's decision-making logic and corporate narrative, I just dread the future of the WRC franchise, which happens to be my favorite motorsport...
I guess I just will have to keep on playing Dirt Rally 2.0 until the end of times...
They peaked with GTR2. It went downhill from there.
Thank you! We appreciate the love.
EA are to gaming, what Disney are to legacy movie IP’s!
I hope Reiza get the madness assets from EA and maybe even hire some former SMS employees
but i doubt EA woulda do something actually good for once and the Madness engine is probably lost forever
I don't think you have ever played Richard burns rally before. Not a sms/ea game.
@@lordfatcock Speaking of rallying, EA buying Codemasters is the final nail in the coffin for the DIRT series. Dirt Rally 2.0 might have been their last hurrah as well.
Funny thing is 1 DLC for project cars 2 is still on sale in steam
Project car 2 was the first game i played when i got my first wheel
I found out all the DLC from Project Cars 1 has been removed as well.
I think that with EA securing the license for WRC, I believe DiRT might become a shell of what it once was.
@@karl343 Are you serious? Dirt Rally 3.0 was 90% ready and they've dropped it? Even though it's EA does not sound like good business sense.
@@Bolkiebasher It's being salvaged for the WRC game, as the timeframes were basically the same, and really two of the same game, isn't really good business sense.
still will get it's shit kicked in by RBR though.
EA only cares if it says Fifa or battlefield on the box. Really will not miss them if they go belly up one day.
the business man gonna create monopoly, not a great game
Simple: EA only cares about profit, not what the community actually wants. Capitalism, baby!
Knowing the history between EA and Ian Bell I was fearful of something like this happening
Ha, don’t you worry IB and the exes walked away with millions at the end of the day
I'm beginning to worry about F1 23, since the news of Codemasters CEO and CFO leaving is new to me. knowing that their Chief developers are still there, that means there could be hope... but only time will tell
EA out to ruin Sim Racing. Thank god for ACC.
dont let EA know that they exist
EA is going to single handedly ruin half of the racing game franchises in the span of a few years. It's a real shame the big guys at MS and Sony only want to invest in one series each, both being massive disappointments that do more harm to the genre than good
EA treats games like money grabbing machine, not art. They keep releasing meh product on timely basis with outrageous microtransactions. Kinda ironic because they have "Art" in their name.
What I don't understand is why they also removed the previous games from the stores. And now I learned that they also removed Dirt 4 and Dirt Rally.
I don't understand either I know some games eventually get discontinued but removing them from stores is just stupid only good thing is anyone who brought them before it got removed from stores can still redownload it but they won't be able to buy DLC.
They always say it is because of expiring licenses. What to believe of that.
the original 2015 pCARS i think was the best semi-casual sim racer. i miss the aussies calling out the bad drivers and trash talking each other in the lobbies. the tyre changes in pCARS 2 were detrimental to the casual experience. too much time was wasted on slowly warming up the tyres. shame the series is dead now.
Project Cars 3 was and is still awesome. I play this more than GT it's just pure fun
Project cars is the reason I got into sim racing and getting my first wheel
PC2 is the game that opened me out of my shell of only playing arcade racers
Wait until EA kill WRC with bugs,MTX and sub par driving
Honestly, I feel thkful cuz this game can still be modded (tough since it isn't mod-friendly, but the community is trying their best, and this is what keeps the game still on-going even today). Honestly, pCARS 2 isn't any kind of hardcore but a casual sim, yes it does have some weird physics but its VR performance make it the most immersive sim I've ever played. Sad to see a community-based game died so soon, AMS2 is definetly a spiritual successor of PC for me (or just me, I dunno)
They are pushing the Frostbite engine for everything too. Another trend that must be noticed and highlighted.
This has a lot of pro's and con's though. The engine is great visually, wonder how great it is for racing.
They are still selling Project Cars 3 full price. They got rid of the good Project car game but keep the trash one.
Just like F1 older games, they removed of steam , they want to us purchase the newest buggy games
Thank God I brought project cars before it got delisted from steam but I didn't buy the second one I only brought first project cars.
@@socksonfeet8125 Not a true petrolhead if you don't understand how to fine tune the tool that allows you to convey your skills to the asphalt✌🏼
Ea can merge SMS with Grid developers. As Project Cars 3 felt like weird combo of Grid 2019 and Driveclub.
Hell yeah, hope ian chokes on a hotdog.
I'd say PC3 had too many chefs in the kitchen, that all wanted something different... Bell being the way he is doesn't help lol
As a fan of rally games, it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
Somebody needs to bring the original P Cars formula back...
I just hope this microtransiction model dies, or EA itsself
They probably really killed it because after the road wreck of PC3, no-one would trust a 4th iteration.
Ironic, since Project Cars 3 was likely watered down by Codemasters in an attempt to appeal to EA and their 'target audience'
Because they suck.. Just like they killed the Titanfall 2 Brand.. They are disconnected from consumers.
Why did EA Kill Project CARS? BECAUSE! Project Cars Three.
"Decisions like these are very hard"
I bet it was actually super easy for EA to make the decision of cancelling Project Cars for no real reason
That really sucks EA shouldn't do something like that just give these people project cars 4
Is the narrator for this video Austin Ogonoski?
Nah Austin is more satirical
This is really depressing.
is multiplayer shutted down or its only not on sale
As a fan of the TOCA Race Driver series by Codemasters and Project CARS series by SimBin, I am deeply disappointed of what is happening in the world of racing simulator games.
You forgot to mention nfs shift2 🗿
It was literally the basis for Project cars...
so AMS2 doesn't have great multi-player and doesn't have great single player. So what is left, a tech demo?
There was never supposed to be a Pcars 2, The whole point was to keep updating Cars.
EA cares not what anybody thinks of them. It’s ALL about the $$$
If only AM2 had a single player.
Slightly Mad Studios: *Releases Project Cars 3*
Internet: *Tears Project Cars 3 to shreds* (deservedly)
EA: *Cancels Project Cars series*
Internet: "Why would EA do this?!?!" *surprised pikachu face*
Scumbags!
@@Kieran_OPC But all the bad nfs game still sold well . But pc3 dont even sell well which made EA think project cars is not a profitable investment .
@@kuriankeralaIndia with that logic they should cancel GRID too then along with a couple other codie titles, 1 game in a good series doesn't make for a nail in the coffin it's just EA being EA.
@@Kieran_OPC Grid is on hold for now but that's because the most recent game was this year.
I see, so NFS: Shift 3 is off the table then.
Pcars 3 is also a very well made and fun game.

EA Killing a game off "gasp" who would have thought it.
Reiza studio’s just announced Ian bells new company just merged with Rieza
Project cars 2 is an incredible game, guys make it simple an please reconsider making project cars4, but starting with the vision an the info from project cars 2 and I’m sure it will the best sim ever, please reconsider this diamond in the ruff!!!
Such a shame. Loved Project Cars 1 & 2 after coming from Gran Turismo
Ironic a motorsports games owned channel talks about a racing game dying
PC3 felt like a EA decision. slightly mad studios were always more towards the Sim Style and PC2 was such a good SIM 1 not so much bit clunky. I was hoping they’d return to their routes with PC4 but seems it’s not to be
Ea just keeps making bad decisions.
EA don't do anything thats not mass market. Its a Hollywood blockbuster vs an indie studio basically.
Its not very good on controller admittedly, but on a wheel its probably the best modern sim on the market RN for driving feel
eww live services... pls no.. the new wrc is gonna be micro transaction hell now...

Slightly Mad killed Project CARS with the 3rd installment themselves!
So basically EA already killed Codemasters
the time trials in PC3 was annoying { difficulty settings would not change the time restraints } ... just stick to racing and keep the pit lanes and lose too many screens between races { Forza Motorsport 7 }.
Can you still buy this game?
Called it. They should have never sold codemasters to ea. Next they will kill grid
That is the reason I do not touch anything to do with EA... don't support them !
