thanks for you kind words. if you'd like I'll email the rest of it, which finishes the video. the whole part about hip backing cuts for unequal hips I've only ever seen in Marshall Gross's book on roof cutting. unequal hips don't come up that often, but they do come up. thanks again for your comments.
Thanks for your comments, Mr. Smith. All these years after making the video I really need to make a "caveat". Nobody has made the comment but most, not all, houses have an overhang. A lot of the math in the video still applies but the hip runs-not to the point where the walls meet- but to where the overhang meets. This complicates things, of course. These roofs rarely come up. And I've commented before that Marshall Gross's book on roof framing is the best I've found.
OR, you can draw it on Autocad, spit out all the angles and cut dimensions, print it as a PDF file to scale of lumber, take it to Kinko's, print a $2 large format page and take it to the job site. Wala (Butchering a French word) Acutally it's Voila...
You dumb ass, you realize that this was recorded on VHS right???? copyright was 1999. This was back when contractors knew how to do mathematical calculations. Not just phone it in.
Nicely narrated, really liked that
Thank you for making this video, your very knowledgeable. I’ve watched it 20x your awesome

@@PaulMilton12 If this was back when contractors knew how to do mathematical calculations, then why does he use a framing calculator?
