    Correction: The Jaguar I-Pace starts at 70,000 USD. The price quoted was actually Australian dollars. Sorry for the mix up. And also yes, I said "Nuremberg" instead of "Nurburgring". My bad on that also!

      Electric car sales are doubling their market share every 12 months globally now. By years end it will be 5% of the market. But every successful technology in history has exhibited exponential adoption rates. The only thing that changes is how fast the doubling happens. Next year it will be 10%. The following years will be 20%, 40, 80, and then its all over. Dont think so? It only took the Model T and its cohorts 8 years to replace 90% of the horses in transportation.

      At his recent Q&A at SXSW he was asked about governance on Mars and it sounded pretty Libertarian. He wants it to be harder to make a law and easier to repeal it or all laws have an automatic sunset and need to be renewed if they have popular support. I think Mars needs a strong constitution too and sound money.

    I think It was always Elon's intention to shift the auto industry away from fossil fuels. I'm sure he doesn't really care that competition is growing. He started Tesla to prove that with the right resources, we can manufacture stylish, fun, zero emission vehicles at a price that will rival today's internal combustion automobiles. Now most manufacturers are following Tesla in EV technology. People in the comments are saying Tesla should "step up their game." No, Tesla set the bar and now it is up to other manufactures to catch-up.

Plus the Grants Tesla got most of them where for all EV cars, Elon used some lucky or just good timing to take most of that funding over Prius and others for his cars.

      You do realize it takes about 5 years to bring a new car model from the concepts to the streets - even longer when the technology isn't quite there yet (like with EVs). The traditional manufacturers have been watching the EV market very closely (as you can see with a couple of concept cars from over 10 years ago), and as battery technology evolved they got on board. Disruptive tech is hardly ever evolved by traditional manufacturers - the risk of failing is just too big compared to the relatively small first mover advantage.

      Yeah, most people didn't want 'green' cars. Sure they wanted good gas mileage. But that's useless when the car takes hours to charge, and can only go a few miles.
      They're better now, but that's not because of tesla, it's because of smart phones, which have needed more, and more power in smaller spaces, and have to be lighter. You're better of thanking Samsung or apple than you are tesla.

      Vincent Omnia Veritas manufacturers would be arrogant and ignorant if they thought like you do. When someone is the leading manufacturer in their field, which Tesla undeniably is, and they make their tech research open source, then you better take all you can learn from it. If everyone else don't need it and they all have their own platforms, why is it then that Tesla consistently stay ahead of the competition? "They don't need Tesla".. well obviously they do, because what they are doing right now isn't working, so they better start looking at someone who are doing it right.

    • @gwenwalravens8030
      @gwenwalravens8030 6 лет назад +1

      "Tesla even make all their research open source so other companies are free to use it. Still they can't catch up lol."
      As a company, you'd be a complete idiot to use another company's IP or tech w/o some careful consideration. Making something 'open source' isn't always a sign of altruism and in this case Tesla allowing other companies to use their battery tech is not altruism but a chance to grow by becoming the default company for delivering said batteries to smaller companies or bigger if they choose to use the same tech.
      "manufacturers would be arrogant and ignorant if they thought like you do. When someone is the leading manufacturer in their field, which Tesla undeniably is, and they make their tech research open source, then you better take all you can learn from it."
      What you can learn, yes, but you do not use the same patent or tech. That's just stupid.
      "why is it then that Tesla consistently stay ahead of the competition?"
      Do they? EV are still a very tiny fraction of vehicles on the road.I'm pretty sure ALL OTHER car manufacturers are ahead on Tesla and are working on their version/platform on their own time. Tesla needs EV to exist and stay relevant (and not go bankrupt). Tesla played its part but that part is starting to become less profitable especially with their problems in the production lines. Once the big boys take over, Tesla will have a hard time keeping afloat. That's the exact reason why their research was made open source.
      "well obviously they do, because what they are doing right now isn't working, so they better start looking at someone who are doing it right."
      Once again: yes it is working. They still have the biggest market share of all vehicles. They have time to develop EV now that the people's mindset has changed. There is no hurry. They are taking their time to come up with something that makes their cars stand out from a copy of a Tesla.

    • @garyco766
      @garyco766 5 лет назад +1

      Yes, so superior they are and don't need Tesla... which is why not one of these offerings matches the specs of comparable Teslas already in production. I love that they have entered the game since it will push everything forward. But the clear fact remains that they are years behind what Tesla has already done and Elon does nothing but push harder and faster, so by the time these hit the market he'll have improved existing models and have newer better models coming out. Haters keep trashing Tesla and talking about how the "real" car companies will bury them. Meanwhile we keep watching their market lead grow, their tech advantage grow, their manufacturing capacity grow, and seeing them establish themselves as a major player. I'm all for competition, we win when people compete for our $. But the competition is still way back in the rear-view mirror, so quit acting like they are just sitting idly, waiting to smack down Tesla at their leisure. It ain't so.

    • @Tubeytime

      I haven't heard of them because they don't have range like Teslas do. Tesla's success demonstrates how this technology is in demand. If there was a solid competitor that I wasn't aware of, they would have hit that market first. But there isn't one... so they didn't. It's pretty simple.
      Also Tesla isn't affordable because they're engineering cars and batteries from the ground up. Like I said, they're dealing with brand new technology that needs time to be optimized. And they've done a pretty damn good job so far.
      Also, the Model 3 is 30000, which is affordable.

As for advertisement, what are you talking about? adage.com/article/cmo-strategy/tesla-paid-advertising/310008/ Tesla basically has no ads running anywhere, while those other companies spend millions.

    Well Degogo, the race is on!!!! Personally, I'd like to see some corporate barriers come down and see what would happen when Samsung perfects that graphite battery and make it production ready for the auto industry. That is when we will see real progress. I'd like to see various eletric hydrid powertrain with engines that run on saflower seed oil or steam engine. But the greed of mankind, in the oil and gas industry won't have it. I like Tesla! Innovative and slightly ahead of it's time. But the race is on, and you can't sleep on the engineering of the auto industry.

      I stand corrected. Thank you.
      I think they should find some way to use the existing technology converting it to burn clean. They have engines that run on safflower seed oil. You take an engine something like that and combine it with technology that fast charges a capacitor. Now you're talking real change. The World wouldn't be ready for something like that. People in the gas and oil industry couldn't live with that.

    • @fiso64

      1. He said established car brands.
      2. Not really competition, Rimac is a sports car maker while actual competitors like Mercedes are trying to bring electric cars to most people.

    • @dh41400
      @dh41400 6 лет назад

      @potatoes
      Actually Rimac is producing a lot of electrical components for Jaguar, Aston Martin, Renault, Koenigsegg and recently they've agreed to a new projects for Pininfarina (owned by Mahindra India).
      They've also partnered with Camel group, which is the largest Chinese battery manufacturer.
      So basically Mercedes is FAR behind a company like Rimac in terms if electric cars.

    • @fiso64
      @fiso64 6 лет назад

      dh41400
      Great but they still don't make any cars. Not really a rival.
      *they still don't make any regular cars

    • @dh41400
      @dh41400 6 лет назад

      They engineer the components that other manufacturers use. And they DO make cars, small series though but they were sold none the less. Although their primary business model is not car production but rather EV technology production and car inovation.
      People are underestimating the companies that actually INVENT stuff and make them a reality.
      There are a lot of Mercedes cars made in China and USA ... and for me, that is not a Mercedes, because there are some quality differences. Those cars are usually meant for US and Chinese market.
      And btw how many electric cars has Mercedes produced ? In fact does it actually have a EV factory, because at their web site they claim that EV production is starting in 2019.

    • @fiso64
      @fiso64 6 лет назад

    2. in 1910 there were about 15,000 fully electric, battery powered, vehicles operating in NYC.

      Well technically it seems like you can drive a Tesla for 20 years at least without getting under 80% of original battery storage capacity (just look up Ben Sullins videos)... So you would have to pay 10k every 20 years. I would say that's affordable.
      But I get your point. I think when the first used Model 3 are sold you get a quite affordable car. ;)

    • @TheTonyShopper
      @TheTonyShopper 6 лет назад

      Yep, that is the range I am aiming at. By that time I will be older and getting a 40k+ car might be no problem. But for now, EV with reasonable range and size is beyond my means.
      @Brokkoli OMG that sounds reasonable. Depending on how much Batterie Tech moves in that timespan Switching sooner than that might make more sense even.
      Be it faster charging or more capacity.

    Tesla needs to get its ass in gear. It won't matter about the brand if they repeat don't deliver. Take a look at targets attempt in Canada. They couldn't move their materials to their stores and they died fast.

    If these cars aren’t being produced by the 1,000 ‘s right now, then they are not competition for Tesla. The troubles that Tesla has had with manufacturing at scale are equally true for everyone else and Tesla has years of head start. No comparison. One of your six car competitors will produce no more than 150 cars at a price of $250 thousand US and that is Tesla’s competition?

    • @coliban
      @coliban 6 лет назад +1

      Pure nonsense is: "years of head start". Porsches e-car history is more 120 years (Lohner Porsche de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lohner-Porsche#/media/File:Lohner_Porsche.jpg) The Lohner Porsche was AWD. But E-Cars were (and are) too expensive, they do not perform in terms of distances and they are really, really unfunctional. So they didn't survive. If german auto makers would like to build more e-cars, they would do it tomorrow, electric cars are much more simple than ICEs (except for Tesla, they are assembling their cars in an highly amateurish way) to build. But car makers don't want to build too much e-cars because you can't earn any profit. And on top of that, they are much more dirty than ices because of the big an poisoned batterie, they pollute our environment much more.

      Jaguar can easily outproduce Tesla anyway, this is also the same for pretty much any manufacturer there. Plus they all look better than teslas

    I don't think Tesla has a really good reputation:
    For me personally, Tesla stands for delayed delivery, dangerous software and too great promises.
    All of the other manufacturers have a great experience with car manufacturers.

      I think lauris meant he doesn't want Tesla to be like Apple in the sense that Apple devices these days arent as good of value as some Android alternatives. Sure, Apple is more successful, but if Tesla was to get there by the same methods, it would hurt the consumers. Just my take on it.

    Cold fusion should stop being fan boy of west . The real market for electric vehicle is in asia . China alone sold half of world’s total electric vehicle . And indian tata is also vying for huge chunk of domestic EV market . Western automotive industry can’t put a dent in asia because asian want cheap EV. The boom of electric vehicle in asia is off the chart

      Western countries seem to drive further distances. You can get away with cheaper cars like Leaf range in the city.

    All these people dissing Tesla, remember people Tesla (Elon musk) is the king and these people are trying to catch up don’t get it twisted.
    Also we should be thanking Elon musk for going against all odds and giving us electric cars (naming his company after Nikola Tesla, who Tomas Edison stole the glory off and used him for his talents only to betray him) and the funniest part is companies like Porsche still can’t catch up to Tesla or anything close to the quality, technology, speed or safety for anywhere near the price.
    And they have the nerve to diss Tesla, see actions not words my friends 👌🏽👍🏽✌🏽
