Madam I faced this situation 12 years back . I was 22 years old and just finished btech at that time. Boy mother demanded dowry mentioning that they have spent 15 lakhs rupees for his education and they demanded 15 lakhs cash as dowry.Demand chesiname malli government school teacher, converted christian, very greedy lady. My Father has given half of the cash during wedding, that marriage ended with divorce after few years. They harassed me with words from day 1 of marriage and they filed divorce to get rid of me. More over the boy never showed interest in sex and having child . Then after divorce , I got married again and very happy now.

Very well said. Parents should treat both boys and girls equally which will give girls more confidence. Unfortunately grandparents also treat grandson is special vs grand daughter. They still believe in vaarasudu. There is racism,sexism,colorism,castism in almost every house. How can we expect society to behave better. In India marriage is a business deal than uniting 2 souls. I am glad and appreciate you saying it boldly about this problem is the most in India. Just because we love our country doesn't mean we should ignore the truth. Madam a good topic. Very nicely said. I totally agree with you. But at one place you mentioned that : yes money can be taken if given by them, i would tell even that is wrong. People will interpret your statement at their convenience. They will demand and tell, we never asked, they gave on their own. So what i want to tell is, taking or asking anything is wrong. Just ask them to celebrate a good marriage.

What about parents future life.and now they want the total value of our assets to estimate us. Hello, madam. Asking dowry directly is atleast better but many groom side people show their true colours after marriage madam like asking if the girl's father owns a land, house, etc. Or they must clearly ask for dowry before wedding.
Atleast if they have taken dowry will they treat well? No,the daughter in law is for doing household work and the son is like money sending machine.If they have a daughter, they will treat the daughter and their son in law as King and Queen, the mother in law will do everything for her daughter even upto 90 years she will do for her daughter and grandchildren but not for the daughter in law but the daughter in law must do everything atlast the Daughter in law will get nothing, i am not talking about property atleast peace of mind.
