Had a match where one of my newbie friends was playing a guy. It lasted like 20 minutes or something.
The opponent was out of cards with 3 hp and board control.
My friend had 1 hp and 3 cards in his deck.
He top decked a Coldlight Oracle and milled his opponent.

See, this shit is why rank 18 is actually hard.
Because nobody has good decks?
Its impossible to know what your opponent is doing. Its completely random. The only guarantee is that there is no guarantees. Your opponents are either completely insane, or the smartest brains on the planet. Rank 18 truly is the strangest place in azeroth.

Rank 18 is where experimental decks that are showing promise end up. There is no meta between 20 and 16. Up to rank 20 is mostly standard decks, higher than 16 are popular proven decks.
I hate this tide of C'thun Freeze Yogg Anomalus decks that are plaguing the ladder. Thanks a lot Kripp!
People actually started playing Anomalus? Because I played that deck like a month ago, probably way before Kripp.

To be fair, up until this point, I thought pinging counted as an attack in terms of "When your hero is attacked" - it doesn't say "When a minion attacks your hero" or "When your hero is attacked by a minion", so I figured it effectively meant "When your hero takes damage". So I'd have probably thought "Either or, if it's Ice Barrier, he's going to get 8 armor" too.

Anomalus is a must craft in the rank 18 meta
nah, you just get it from your packs, as well as cho'gal
I crafted it because I keep a complete Mage deck as it's my golden deck. It has it's moments as a card but without taunt and counterspell up, it gets rekt way too often for a 15+ deck. The only upside is, at that rank nobody expects it.

What happened to the starcraft series anyways? I really learned a lot from them.
Husky basically fell off the face of the earth, Day9 mostly does his own things (including hearthstone videos) but no starcraft anymore. Haven't heard from HD or Psy in a while, not sure what they're doing. LAGTV is still casting starcraft (pretty much the only casters left at this point) but they're not really a "learning" series.
How is this possible! I play at Rank 18 for a couple games and NEVER get people this bad.

NA is about equal to EU, but slightly easier. Asia is crazy...such massive spikes in both ability and deck quality.
Try waiting until the rank -1 players climb the ladder back up, they tend to inadvertently troll low ranks at the beginning of the month.

you are not a smart man. your hero power is animated when you purchase it but it has a gold border because he has 500 wins
Most likely either botted their way to 500 wins or played a brainless deck like mech mage.

if I got matched up against rank 18s like that then I would be rank 8 by now, instead though 99% of the time I get matched up against people that I question how they are still at rank 18 in the first place.
Every time I make it to rank 5 I auto-concede my way back to 20 just to crush dreams and constantly bm by roping out games I'm winning. Wow... Wow... Wow... Wow... Wow... Wow...
I swear, it's far easier from rank 7-legend than it is from 20-13. No idea why. Maybe it's the lack of variety, but I always do really well when I get above rank 13.
have you ever considered that the reason they appear to be better than their rank is because you are actually a rank 18 player and are making dennis plays ever game without realizing it

Rank 10 is my worst rank. I find that's where all the face shamans hang out.

So, I was playing a mage with second class shaman, got Reincarnate. Anomalus actually acted as a board clear+ 8 damage to face, which is pretty great.

He forgot to reset the tracker when spectating, so it was showing his deck + the person who he was spectating's deck as well.
